Looks, writing skill, good pianist, great singer. She ticks all the boxes. And a couple of albums worth of tunes means she's not a one-hit wonder. If my worst performance was this great, I'd be laughing.
@renethel As professional singers go, they sing so much that it's very hard to keep their voices strong and healthy for EVERY performance. This was a decent rendition, but if you watch Ducon44's posting from the Today Show when her voice is fresh, you'll see that she's perfect and in tune. Her runs and improv's are flawless! She has a great voice, she's beautiful and she's increadibley talented!
I generally like Sara. Her voice is good (not great), she seems like a cool person, and she's puts on a good show. If anything, I'd say her songwriting is her weak point. I totally appreciate artists like her that write their own music and some of her tunes are clever, but I've never been particularly moved by her original music.
Her choices for covers, on the other hand, are absolutely stellar IMHO. Her covers of "In Your Eyes," "Yellow," and "Single Ladies" are all wonderful.

I'll have to agree with everyone and say this isn't her best performance-- but, as Craig says, this is her TV debut. Go and listen to her singing "King of Anything" on Craig's show and see what you think of her live singing then. In my opinion, she's one of the best live singers around today.

I think the best part about this performance is you can see her a little uncomfortable at first, a little stiff even; as she plays more, she gets more into it and starts to lose her inhibitions as the song progresses...at first she's just singing the song, but then it's like she's singing it TO someone. That and I think it's amazing how well she performs live, I prefer it to her studio cuts.
She is very talented, but what I also meant to add is that it strikes me as kind of sad that I knew she was going to be incredibly beautiful just by listening to the song and the inordinate amount of airplay it got on commercial FM radio. I feel that it confirms the current formula in the music business: Good song + amazing female sex appeal = FM radio hit. @wierdxthing My singing teacher told me what "Love Song" is really about. When you listen to her lyrics, they're so ambiguous. Basically, Sara had a meeting with her A&R team (I think when she was freshly signed), and the main guy said "We love what you do etc, but we really want you to write some love songs for us"
She was furious about this, so wrote this song, showed it to another member of the A&R team, and they loved it! :)

I feel that it confirms the current formula in the music business: Good song + amazing female sex appeal = FM radio hit. @wierdxthing My singing teacher told me what "Love Song" is really about. When you listen to her lyrics, they're so ambiguous. Basically, Sara had a meeting with her A&R team (I think when she was freshly signed), and the main guy said "We love what you do etc, but we really want you to write some love songs for us"
She was furious about this, so wrote this song, showed it to another member of the A&R team, and they loved it! :)
Hasn't she done a great job confusing people with lyrics? :)
