I WAS ROAMING THROUGH MY iPOD NANO TODAY AT SCHOOL WHILE I WAS DOING MATHWORK AND SUDDENLY MY IPOD PLAYS THIS SONG, AND I COULDN'T STOP PLAYING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN! I LOVE IT. WELL ARRANGED. LOVING THE DRUMMER, TOO! NO MISTAKES
Sweden and Finland are right next to each other. Not very member from Darkwater is directly from Sweden, so saying they're from Sweden or Finland would be correct either way.
@jorygriffin Im going to disagree, you obviously haven't heard songs like the best of times, i walk beside you, repentance, these walls, vacant, etc. They are very emotional, I'm assuming your basing this opinion on songs, like The Dark Eternal Night, Panic Attack, Honor thy Father, f A Nightmare to Remember. Dream Theater still carries emotion. Dream Theater also doesn't carry a power metal aspect which is what this band somewhat carries, adding to epic emotion. This band is still quite good.
@XanaduMyHome Oh I have, I'm a huge fan and I have everything Dream Theater have every released and been lucky to see them live.
Maybe I didn't phrase my comment correctly, I meant that I feel Dream Theater's instrumental sections and progressive nature get in the way of the songs themselves. The get blander by the album and they rely too heavily on sporadic start-stop meaningless riffs, as well as having a habit of interrupting songs with unneeded shred sections. That isn't the point of prog.
@jorygriffin They used to be like this back in the images and words, awake, ACOS, and falling into infitiry days. Then came Ruddess, and with him everything went to shit.
I think they need to use a little less guitar and a bit more keyboard in their songs and also they need to make more songs like this!! Oh wait they already have :)
Holy crap, I absolutely LOVE this song. Every time I hear it, chills come down my spine. IMO, the only thing that keeps it from being completely perfect is that "Good things come..." part, I don't like it. I feel like editing it and removing that, it just doesn't fit the song, IMHO. My favorite track from the album. AWESOME band, love the vocalist.
I've listened to this song every day since I first heard it. It's truly a masterpiece and the lyrics are powerful as hell. I don't know many people out in my area NY that have heard of this band, but I'm going to make it a mission of mine to change that.
I don't know why everyone (almost) is comparing them to DT. DT is far more prog oriented...they used to be at least. This is far General Heavy Metal with some prog backing. I prefer DT more because of their incredible technical musicianship.
Still, these guys are a very good band though. And I like the vocals more too.
Best song of them :) good friend to the drummer.. And they have been playing just b4 DT in USA last year. Really nice I should say ^^ Gogo Sweden (Y) ;)
DARKWATER: Much crunchier guitar sound - crisper than baked Wasa - more audible bass, more personal lyrics, frequent use of falsetto vocals (rare for LaBrie), and most importantly, the keyboards. They give off this dark, freezing atmosphere written in this song's lyrics.
I'm pretty much an expert on band compare/contrast. Your comment is safe...
@quadrupleplay Those are many of the reasons I like Harmony & Darkwater better than Dream Theatre. However, I will admit, that this song is reminiscent of Images and Words, which was my favorite album of DT. Darkwater is really representing ProgMetal well!
@pwEclipse dream theater is fuckin' shit...they are like metallica in thrash,DT is in progressive...underground and non-commercial bands are real bands....
@MistarPer i didn't said that...you said that....i said that underground bands have more emotions in their songs....if metallica had continue playing thrash they would never become popular as they are now...now they just playin' for money, just like dream theater...
@MrLuciferion I disagree. I do believe the new Metallica aren't as good as the past, but who cares? Bands change and evolve and every band is gonna have their best cd. Just because they change doesn't mean their sellouts. And idk how you think DT plays just for money. Although theyre nvr gonna be the same without Portnoy.
F@cking G*R*E*A*T music :)

This is what new Dream Theater should sound like, emotional, with music before technical prowess, like their old stuff.
Dream Theater now, as talented as they all are, sound like they try too hard.

me too, DT are a bit too much baroque, and pretentious...
pwEclipse 2 years ago
DT is also made up of some of the most talented musicians alive...
mike portnoy, look at him on drums, not a lot of people can go off beat and get back to on beat like he can
and john pertucci, look at him, he is fucking geniusss
james lebrie, amazingg vocalist
john myung, my fav bassist, and for a good reason, not a lot of bassists can go that fast
and last, jordan rudess
look at him on the keys, even one handed hes amazing
but when he uses 2 handss, hes just godly, his solo album was amazingg!
