Why in Sam Hill is Gilius Thunderhead riding a giant in the first place. Wasn't he able enough in the first game to take down Death Adder? Was he left paralyzed after that battle? He had the weakest magic in the 1st game anyway, so it doesn't make sense for him to be tagging along for that. Does the game take place that much further in the future that Gilius is geriatric? Maybe I'm overthinking a game that features a dwarf riding a giant riding a giant scorpion.

In some fantasy novels I've read, dwarfs often seem to complain about having to work harder to keep up with their longer-legged human companions. But what they should've done in this game was have Gilius guard Goah's back now and then, and not just uselessly sit there.
i got part one for free being a PSN+ member. but dammit, i want them to release part 2 of this. and capcom should do the same thing for their classic arcade games cause im still waiting for knights of the round to be released as well as some other ones. SEGA is smart on there move so far for re-releasing the classics @ such a fast rate.

Never even seen this before, only the Genesis sequel which looks to be a different game. The first Golden Axe is one of my favorite games of all time, I just downloaded it for cheap on XBLA and it's an absolute blast to play with my Arcade Stick. Still, if we're talking the top Arcade beat 'em ups, I would have to list Double Dragon, Final Fight, Golden Axe 1, Alien V Predator, X-Men. That's just 5 that jump out at me, I would throw in TMNT, The Simpsons, D&D: Shadows of Mystara, and probably Altered Beast as well even though it hasn't aged well.
@hitokirimasamun Yes, she can ride animals, her horselike body disappears and she gets human legs temporarily while she rides. The moment she gets off, her original horselike body comes back. I know because I have the game for PC. MAME emulator.
I wish more modern games had visuals like this. They can still be 3D and all that jazz but I just wish modern games looked as bold, vibrant and colourful as this. Most current-gen games are very monotone, realistic and dull looking imo.

You shouldn't call this Golden Axe 2. That's another and totally different game. This is Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder, plainly, and even if it was the second Golden Axe game to be released on arcades. In fact, chronologically-wise this would actually be Golden Axe 4.

Gillius was the best character in the series imo and first time i got to play as a dwarf in this kind of game, his attacks and magic and his headbutt was awesome, sword guy was meh and too slow, tyris flare was behind gillius.
Sega probably considered it was too late already to release a home version of this game. This is a 1992 game and it would have appeared on the Sega Saturn either in the very end of 1994 or during 1995. That, together with not troubling themselves into converting a System 32 game into a so different platform like the Sega Saturn. Golden Axe The Duel was different because of both being a 1994 game and a ST-V game, so the conversion to Sega Saturn was easy cake.

This game was a lot of fun when you got more people playing with you. The people that made Beast Rider should have looked at past games to see what made them great and then make a new game. They might have done a better job with Beast Rider.
So what was Sega's problem with this game. I remember when the Saturn was released, Sega was going to do a port of Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder for the system. What went wrong? Instead they changed their mind and ported a Golden Axe fighting game instead (idiots)? Sega's always making these dumb decisions. Thats why their out of the console buisness and just raping the hell out of Sonic franchise.
I don't remember Sega confirming a Sega Saturn version of Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder at all. Do you have or remember the source of that info? I believe the only Golden Axe they ever confirmed for the Sega Saturn was Golden Axe: The Duel. But I agree that the ideal thing would have been the presence of both games in the console and not just The Duel.
Other than some of the music, this game was close to a 10/10 as far as arcade games go. Forget about high resolution games and crazy 3-D graphics, this game kicks ass all the way.
The barbarian from Golden Axe III is not Ax Battler. He's someone else who's called Kain (not to be confused with Kain Blade from Golden Axe: The Duel, which is a different character).
Not to mention this is probably the best arcade hack n slash/beat em up of all time. A completely different type of game than Beast Rider, so Jo45you comparison is useless.

Yes resident evil 4 can be made on sega dreamcast. Yes sega dreamcast has 16 megabytes of ram same as gamecube. Gamecube does have higher polygon count. Playstation 2 has less ram (4 megabytes). And it still has a decent version of resident evil 4.

my favorite characters are Ax (Golden Axe 1,2 and 3) and Stern (This Golden Axe only)

The barbarian from Golden Axe III is not Ax Battler. He's someone else who's called Kain (not to be confused with Kain Blade from Golden Axe: The Duel, which is a different character).

The thing I always found funny about this game is the fact that Gilius Thunderhead, from Golden Axe 1, rides on Goah's back the whole way. I know the guy is old, but what makes him all of a sudden unable to kick arse? He did so well in the first one! LOL

This is the best Golden Axe game ever.
SEGA, in their infinite wisdom, chose not to release this game for home play, on any platform, whatsoever. Not even in Japan.
Thank God for emulation!
Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder SHOULD'VE been released on Saturn, which was more than capable of handling Sega System 32 arcade games such as this.

Yes resident evil 4 can be made on sega dreamcast. Yes sega dreamcast has 16 megabytes of ram same as gamecube. Gamecube does have higher polygon count. Playstation 2 has less ram (4 megabytes). And it still has a decent version of resident evil 4.

Because dreamcast had just come into the scene when this game hit the arcades. There is no excuse to why this never came out on dreamcast.Sega should have released this on dreamcast no matter what!

There was still six years for the Dreamcast to appear, and even two years for the Sega Saturn to be released. Having the game been in one of these two consoles, the logic choice would have been the Sega Saturn.
