  • Hey just wondering before i make the jump on these... Will my Fiio E10 drive these? I mean, the E10 is rated up to 300ohms, so i figured yes, but i don't know. Help! ^^

  • @nightowl217 Have you contacted Fiio directly to see if they can help, I have heard that the CmoyBB could drive these headphones (according to JDS Labs), but a Ray Samuels audio sr-71b can definitely drive the hd-650 but it's a quite expensive amp.

  • thnx bro i gt it

  • how are these headphones unamped? whiich amp would you recommend for these headphones?

  • what kinda of amp would you recommend for these headphones?

  • @prakashchennupati @phishydk Any amp around 300 dollars should do if you're not too picky about your sound and just want them to be loud. If you want them to really open up and start sounding great, you'll have to spend 500+ dollars on something like burson audio ha-160, at least. However, if you want them to really show 100% of their potential, then you will need to use them with a balanced amp and get new cable for them. It will cost 1500+ dollars, but then sound is comparable to HD800.

  • @derbigpr500 Why not just buy the HD800 and a good amp for that money?

  • @marleymusic217 Because HD800's themselves cost 1500 dollars, and you need a 1000 dollar amp for them. HD650 cost 500 dollars, and if you plug them into the same 1000 dollar amp that you would use with HD800, sound quality would be very similar, some people even prefer the properly amped HD650 over HD800. Difference is very small. HD800 are just a bit brighter and maybe have a bit bigger soundstage, but at everything else, HD650 is on par with the 800's, in some areas its even better.

  • @derbigpr500 As a new HD650 owner (since yesterday only paid 200 dollars) it's good news. But it is kinda weird that something much cheaper can end up sounding (almost) as good as the more expensive upgrade.

That said, the HD650 is a very good headphone with a very natural sound.

I bought the fiio-e9 with the hd650, which is pretty much the cheapest full size amplifier, but it does sound good.

It even makes my dt770 pro(80 ohm) sound much fuller.

  • @marleymusic217 Thats because up until a few years ago HD650's were considered to be one of three best headphones in the world together with Beyerdynamic DT880 and AKG K701, and many people considered HD650's the best. After them, all manufacturers produced new models like T1, HD800, etc., but they aren't such big improvements. They cost 2-3 times more than HD650's, but they maybe 5% better. The only thing you'd really notice when going from 650 to 800 is bigger soundstage and brighter sound.

  • @derbigpr500

You cant really say that something is "5% better"

The HD800 has a completely different sound signature and sounds alot different. I still prefer to listen to certain songs with the HD 650's. Albait my HD 800's are my main headphones.

  • @Spartan117FS I know, but even though the sound signatures are different, HD650's offer 95% of the sound quality HD800's do, especially when used with a high end amp. Its not such a difference in sound quality, its not like you can put both on and say "ok, hd800's are definitely much better".

  • @derbigpr500

I never said they were better. I said that they were different. HD800's offer alot more "open" sound whilst the 650's sound alot more "oppressive". The HD800's are more like speakers IMO, whilst the 650's offer a more standart headphone experience. The HD650's are alot better then the HD800's for certain songs, I prefer to listen to Infected Mushroom with them over any day compared to my HD800's =)

  • @Spartan117FS Yea i also think HD650's are a lot more suitable for some bass heavy music, although HD800's isnt really bad, some people's reviews would make you believe they have no bass. I also think they're a bit too bright, at least for my taste, but thats probably because im too used to HD650's, and almost all headphones i try are bright to me.

  • U were well lucky to get urs for 180£

  • how abwt dubstep??

  • @EpicShotz75 HD650 are known to have some of the best detailed, defined and some of the most powerful bass of any headphone, so my guess is they'd do very well with dubstep.

  • @derbigpr500 ok thnx bro.

  • @EpicShotz75 I have these, and I listen to dubstep and drum n bass a lot. These headphones can handle a very loud volume, with a lot of bass quantity, but most importantly bass Quality. Something more bass heavy headphones do not have (like the dt770 pro). So basically it can handle a lot of bass without distorting, and without the bass bleeding into the mits etc. Oh and it has a pretty 'tight'/'fast' sound, with a kickdrum it goes BOOM not BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, or the even worse BRRWWOOOOOOOOOOOM.

  • Which headphones do you recommend for ipod?

  • are they good as a pair of headsets? can you use them with your computer? and get at least something out of them? how about playing games?

if youre mostly downloading flac and/or lossless audio that means.

  • @jespero93 they are really good lots of genres of music btw they are really good with games. i preffer u get it.

  • excellent review....

  • excellent review....

  • Good review, thanks!

  • I can't decide between these and the ultrasone PRO 2500's... I have an e7/e9 Fiio amp. Any suggestions? I listen to kind of fast music, bass heavy rap rock etc.

  • How much better are the HD 650's compared to the HD 595? (If you've tried the HD 595)

Will my Asus Xonar Essence STX be good enough for them without an external amplifier? The Essence STX does have built-in amplifiers. If I get the 650's, should I get an additional amplifier? Something like the Argon HA1?

  • @KapteinFruit

Xonar Essence STX is a top-of-the-line headphone amplifier. You wont need an external one if you route audio through that & plug in a headset like HD595/598 or HD 650.

Of course you can go even higher and get a HD800 series headset but IMO that's a bit too pricy, but if you are an audiophile then nothing is too much..

  • Would Dubstep be bad? Is there Beats By Dre bass? Better or worse?

  • @Joshloft The bass is probably better, but the over all sound quality is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH worse! I got a pair of Senneheiser HD 595's and it sounds MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better then my over priced, piece of shit, Studio's. The bass is good in the 595's too. It's actually the way bass should sound and not just have bass to shake your dick. Trust me, do NOT get the Studio's.

  • @KapteinFruit I have to hd solos....... they distort at high volume on my iPod.......

  • @Joshloft What do you mean? How is that relevant? The fact that Beats By Dr. Dre is bad? I don't understand what you're trying to say. :P

  • @Joshloft Trust me, dr dre's are just looks not sound quality. These are a million times better but you may need an amp.

  • @hellomoto170 Exactly. Don't be fooled, Dr. Dre's never meant to be great sound quality.

  • @Joshloft Way better than beats by dre. The bass is realistic, beats is overdone.

  • This video reminds me of the movie 'Wanted'. You know why? Because of the train that was passing by at around 0:35 seconds. I was expecting a curving bullet that hopefully the camera would capture with the word 'wanted' engraved onto it.

  • i cant hardly see them. turn on a light or open a window

  • i would like to know whether i should buy these headphone (sennheiser hd 650) or the akg k701

i am stuck with which ones i should buy

  • QUESTION: I want a good pair of headphones (Mainly for GAMING) which is better... the HD600's or the HD595's? OR any other headphones that you may think are better for use mainly for gaming, I want great positional audio, clarity, and bass. Open ear preferred. Thanks :-)

PS: I will be using the ASUS Xonar ST soundcard, has prebuilt amp.

  • its not made out of plastic its made out of carbon fibre

  • excellent review! , im looking for a goodlooking headphones that i can use with my iPod classic, do u have an idea?

  • @wirelesselectrode grados, from sr 60 to sr 325

  • I have 650's combined with a musical fidelity x can and cardas replacement cables and a marantz 5004. This is an excellent set up and like he said they are great for classical music.

  • I want them so bad,I have got Creative X-fi Elite Pro as a sound card for my PC, imagine the sound I can get with this pair.

  • @lovitura well you will get average sound. these are very professionnal hi-end headphones, not multimedia headphones. you need an amp to really taste the HD650 special taste. if not volume will be too low, and details too few. still good but its like driving a ferrari to go shopping downtown.

  • Too late ( lol ) I already bought them. Thanks for your advice anyway.Just to let u know the sound from the headphones output from the Creative Elite Pro External Console is just great,I would say more the average but probably not the best.I still believe I`ve done a good business.Definitely the sound is much better compare with my old Senn HD 595.One thing I am not clear. Any amplifier suppose to give extra volume which I don`t need but this does`t mean a better sound.Am I right ?

  • @lovitura oh yes... volume is just a little thing with amplifier. The 2 main things are ELECTRIC POWER and AMPLITUDE which means more DETAILS in the sound and which is what HD650 are made for.Think of a ferrari (again), without amp it's like being unable to move to the 3-4-5 gears, staying at 1-2 gears. So yeah, as its a ferrari you still go faster with gear 2 than a cheap car, but its a huge loss. Without amplifier you have less details and less power (not just volume). There's a veil.

  • @lovitura Still glad that you are enjoying your HD650s! Know what? i just bought mines last week (second handed so already burnt) and only have a xonar essence STX in my computer right now. I love them. But then tried them at a friends house with his amp and yes, it makes a huge difference. I'll get one soon when i will feel like spending some money for it.

    Enjoy your music :)

  • Hmm, interesting point of view regarding the headphones amp,I`ve never tried a amp with my 650 so far.I will try in some point like you did and I will be able to make the differences. One questions for you since you are 650 owner as well.Have u think to upgrade the cable.I saw on the market a third party involved in 650 production.CARDAS cables seems to be one options but the prices are just unbelievable high.Any suggestions ?

  • @lovitura Yes prices are very high, and cardas are not the best for HD650, Stefan Audioart Equinox are better. But upgrade priorities for the headphones arent the cable, cables are the last upgrade one should do to have a better sound. First : the source (FLAC or CD, not MP3). 2nd: the amplifier (from 200$ to 1000$). 3rd: the cables (200$). Hope it helps :)

  • Just to let you know I have upgraded to Cardas cable yesterday and is`t absolutely massive differences. In fact is like having a different pair of headphones.I could not believe how much the sound has improved from every point of view.Every single instrument is more defined and crystal clear, no distortion for bass at all. Yes is damm expensive but I have to say is worth it.If 650 with normal cable is awesome with upgraded cable is unreal.I strongly recommend a upgrade for cable (Cardas, etc)

  • @lovitura yes i know, and Equinox cables re even better. Now add a good amplifier and you'll be in paradise lol. How much did you buy the Cardas and on which website ? Also, did the cardas made your HD650 sound less laidback and more bright ?

  • I`ve tried to post the name of the website but I could not send the comment because of the licenses issues or free advert thing with You Tube apparently.Anyway I spend £218 ( 3 m long cable ) including VAT and taxes ordered in UK.Next day delivery which is great. Equinox is quite hard to get far as I know so I gave up.Yes they sound less laidback and more bright ( a lot ), that is no doubt.I am looking forward for a amp now but my budget was already hit so I have to wait for a while.

  • @lovitura On a ferrari, the cables are like the tires ;) No need to change the tires if the engine is still not to the best, it wont drive any much better.

  • Whats better, HD 650's or the 600ohm Beyerdynamic DT990 or even a set of grado's at a similar price?

  • Whats better, HD 650's or the 600ohm Beyerdynamic DT990?

  • @TOMKCITYABBEY

    i have both

    it's hard to say :S

  • could someone who is quite knowledgable in headphones please answer this! i need to know which is best for me bearing in mind that i need something with deep, punchy bass (i listen to a lot of rock, metal and drum and bass) : sennheiser hd 595, hd 600 or grado 125i. if there is any other type i shoulld look at please tell me!

  • @OoohAPurpleTurtle For your kind of music i would go with the grado.

  • @bnasty244 is there any reason for this? also that is a typing error i meant the 225i's. also ive heard that they are very uncomfortable, is this true?

  • @OoohAPurpleTurtle The grado is a great set of cans for that punchy bass your looking for, good for rock, metal, even hip hop. They can be uncomfortable for long listen times they are more of an on ear vs the full size can like a senn or beyerdynamic, akg k702 ect. I own all of these cans and they are all very good for different kinds of music the k702 being the most comfortable but for you style of music the grado is the best of course that's my opinion. I hope this helped.

  • that's what i call a review , clear and serious English and advices , again brilliant

  • These folks made in China too?

  • @AdamAus85 No, they are made in Germany.

  • I like these but I wish they made a closed 32ohm version. Until they do, I use my beyerdynamic dt770 32ohm for portable use. I don't want to carry around a portable amp. Sennheiser....seriously, closed 32ohm version of these. What the hell is wrong with you guys.

  • i just ordered these with nuforce icon mobile headphone amp and ipod line out adaptor. i wanted to know if they are actually worth it i've heard good reviews but dunno how they compare to my bose on-ear

  • Nice review mate, probably the best I have seen here at Youtube. LOL'd a little at the "600mm jack" comment but other than that most agree with what you are saying other than the "pinnacle" of current headphones in the price range. They sure are good (I own a pair and am extremly satisfied, but there are many others that people might prefer; K701, SR225/325, some Ultrasone models, AD900s or D2000s.

But yeah, keep up the good work, I'll be waiting for your next video :)

  • hey guys, i was going to buy hd595's until i saw these. Are they really worth it compared to the hd595's? I want to use them for gaming, and for me, directional positioning is very important, so i want to know which of them is the best in that category... btw, im going to use the Mixamp with it.

  • These or a set of AKG K701's?

  • @NigelGriff

Hi mate, depends what kind of music you listen to mostly and what other equipment you've got. If you are driving these from a soundcard / onboard the 650s will give you better sound as the K701s are notoriously hard to drive (trust me I own a pair!). But the K701s are generally considered the better pair for classic or music that needs a large soundstage. Also consider grado if you are looking for some rock headphones. HTH!

  • i know these leak but how much?i'm gonna buy a korg m50 synth and i'm going to be playing a lot and it's going to be near the living room.are they going to hear what i play from like 3 meters away?

  • @Xndingo11 Oh definitely! I suggest Audio Technica ATH-M50s if you don't want sound leakage. They're pretty affordable, but they reproduce sound from good quality sources really accurately.

  • do these leak a lot?

  • do they work well with games????/

  • does this sound better than grado sr80 i

  • Are you serious?

The HD650 is several classes up from the little Grado SR80i. Not even close

You have to compare the Grado RS1 ,at least the SR225.

  • @sf2explus yes i recon so, but it could be subjective

  • Nice review Ill have to get some when I saved up

  • hey I have a question how about to listen to a movie being produced by my apple macbookpro

do you think I will have a very good experience ?

    regards,

  • Can you explain the Nominal 300Ohm thing please. Do you think these headphones will work with the fast track Ultra the way they were intended?

  • great review could you recommend a good amp?

  • im thinking about getting these....do they handle like

    trance/techno/80s music/depeche mode well?

how about rock (system of a down, the clash)

  • They handle all music well as they are a top-end headphone. Its more about the quality of the source. You need an amp to get the best of these and good quality source material, CD or high quality bit-rate mp3, preferably lossless audio.

  • @TechHiEnd

thanks i had the same question since im a huge trance/techno fan and well i think its very demanding music. most isnt gonna be high audio quality but theres alot of fast punchy bass, sometimes high pitched girl voices and alot of midrange

  • @TechHiEnd Honest question, please answer. Will these headphones sound better than (or at worse equivalent to) to Beats By Dr Dre Studio headphones, assuming that the music is coming from the same source?

  • @babyblueg4o9 Theres no comparison between them, the HD 650's are a top end headphone, the beats are marketed at people who value the looks of a headphone more than the sound. The source will impact upon the sound you get, if you connect these to an ipod it will sound poor because they will be underpowered, unless you have an amp or intend to use these with a PC then i would stick to a cheaper pair.

  • @TechHiEnd Would a Fiio E7 do the job? I'm on a budget, and can't spend too much on an amp... : (

  • @TheTraceurBoy Fiio E7 can make the hd650 sound like a fully amplified HD595, but no where close to its true potential.

  • @TheTraceurBoy Not really. The thing about HD650 is they upscale all the way up to 1000$ amps. A cheap DAC/Amp like Fiio E7 will not run them even to 30% of their potential. If you add Fiio E9 to your setup, then you can expect decent sound, but still not near full potential. These really need a 500$+ amplifier to show their best, and with REALLY high end amps, they will sound pretty much as good as HD800's, but with a darker sound signature.

  • @TechHiEnd

When you said 6:53 'useless for tracking' Does that mean these aren't suitable for producing / composing music?
