Black Album, I'll agree it doesn't have very good lyrical quality, and neither does St. Anger, but most glam really does suck. W.A.S.P is good, but bands like Warrant, Extreme, and Poison are just awful.
@ultragamer14 i Disagree completely, Warrant was a really solid band. They aren't the greatest musicians in the world but they sounded great together and wrote great lyrics and great songs. Extreme's not bad either, their a funk metal band, they're not terrible, they're just not interesting. Nuno is a very intriquette guitarist. Poison, alright, i can see why they wouldn't be called metal, but they love the classics as much as anyone. I can't defend their look, but cc can play kirk into a corner

"Girls got it", Araya's attitude is cool. For all the macho posing from thrashers, there's a really good story told by Lars Ulrich himself. He would go to places where he knew Mötley Crüe would be and he'd get their attention on the street. Then he'd shout at them "You're a bunch of fags!" and RUN AWAY because he was actually affraid that Nikki Sixx might kick his ass. It's not about genres, it's about the expression of feelings through art, so sticking to one genre only limits that expression.
ive seen both Slayer/Megadeth AND Mötley Crüe/Poison. loved both shows. and you know what? i find nothing wrong with that! there isnt a rule that says thrash fans need to hate glam or glam fans need to hate thrash. imo being able to like both (and by both i mean more than just one band for either side) makes you more of an all-around metal fan. dont you think?

Both the thrash metal and glam metal scenes in California had a really lame culture, even though both produced a lot of great music. The glam scene was too shallow and dysfunctional, and the thrash scene was too insecure, homophobic, and close-minded. Neither are a good representation of what metal is about.
motley crue was the best "glam metal" band. the headbangers ball on mtv was just awful when it was 90 % glam. i didnt want to hear power ballads. play some metal church or helloween.
i remember back in the early 80s when both types were almost identical, glam had gotten heavier to the point where it was metal not rock and thrash hadn't had albums like raining blood yet, they might hate eachother but ill be damned if they arent similar prototypes

@MrDismemberment I've heard lots of glam bands (I was a little kid in the 80's) and I've never heard one I considered heavy, although I realize that term holds different meanings depending on the individual. I certainly don't think they were trying to be as heavy as possible but a metal band should sound more extreme than typical radio rock, imo. I think they were going for a sound that was completely accessible and throw in some solos so they would still be considered metal.

I love thrash to death but I really like glam too. Pretty much all metal that came out in the 80's was good (almost). And not all glam sounded wimpy. In fact most of it was just good quality, hard rocking, fist pounding metal. Sure it wasn't nearly as kickass as thrash or speed metal, but it still was very good. Outstanding vocals, a crisp, clear drum sound, and riffs and solos that were fun as fuck to rock out to.

*Gothic metal and Doom Metal are not directly connected with thrash too. Doom Metal started in the early-mid 80s with bands like Trouble, St.Vitus etc. who take their inspiration directly from Black Sabbath. Thrash is connected with death metal and black metal and all these 3 genres(thrash,death,black) except the melodic ones suck
Thrash Metal was a evident result of the evolution of the sound of Heavy Metal whereas Glam Metal was not. The Heavy Metal sound invented by Black Sabbath got heavier and it gave birth to Thrash Metal.

"Girls got it", Araya's attitude is cool. For all the macho posing from thrashers, there's a really good story told by Lars Ulrich himself. He would go to places where he knew Mötley Crüe would be and he'd get their attention on the street. Then he'd shout at them "You're a bunch of fags!" and RUN AWAY because he was actually affraid that Nikki Sixx might kick his ass. It's not about genres, it's about the expression of feelings through art, so sticking to one genre only limits that expression.

Both the thrash metal and glam metal scenes in California had a really lame culture, even though both produced a lot of great music. The glam scene was too shallow and dysfunctional, and the thrash scene was too insecure, homophobic, and close-minded. Neither are a good representation of what metal is about.

@MrDismemberment I've heard lots of glam bands (I was a little kid in the 80's) and I've never heard one I considered heavy, although I realize that term holds different meanings depending on the individual. I certainly don't think they were trying to be as heavy as possible but a metal band should sound more extreme than typical radio rock, imo. I think they were going for a sound that was completely accessible and throw in some solos so they would still be considered metal.

I love thrash to death but I really like glam too. Pretty much all metal that came out in the 80's was good (almost). And not all glam sounded wimpy. In fact most of it was just good quality, hard rocking, fist pounding metal. Sure it wasn't nearly as kickass as thrash or speed metal, but it still was very good. Outstanding vocals, a crisp, clear drum sound, and riffs and solos that were fun as fuck to rock out to.

Doom Metal started in the early-mid 80s with bands like Trouble, St.Vitus etc. who take their inspiration directly from Black Sabbath. Thrash was a combination of Hardcore Punk bands of the early 80s( Discharge, GBH etc) and punk influenced nwobhm bands (Venom in particular). Heavy Metal and Thrash have very different styles both in terms of music/stage shows and philosophy/attitude towards life.
