the cops in Owensboro goes to the bars and writes down the plate numbers on people cars and when people start to leave to go home, they get pulled over and they know you are coming from a bar.
i honestly don't get why all of these demolition companies continue to use the outdated techniques of placing explosives in key structural areas to bring a building down.
based on what a commercial airliner supposedly did to the world trade center, i would think a Cessna with a full tank of fuel would easily take down a building of this size, right?
Is tlc paying for the reconstruction of whatever goes in the vacant lot? No. All of this was out of the general publics control. RegArdless of if I or whoever attends these meetings it wouldn't matter u wanna know why? Because people with money and power. It will take 10 plus years to restore a "better," owensboro so enjoy ur wasted youth in this town. I'm 22 and getting out of this town.
Jared, explain how the demo if this hotel cost us 40 million? When the city paid less than ten for it, recovered a huge chunck of that in the sale, and the TLC channel paid for the implosion? Get your facts straight and stop the scare tactics.
All of you people on here complaining, where were you when the evil city and county commissioners wanted your opinions? Did you attend the many meetings about the future of downtown? Did any one of you get out from behind your computers to voice your opinion in public or are you to busy hiding behind a made up screen name? I love what Owensboro is doing downtown, as a youth, I'm excited about the future.
Well, if you want the truth.. They made the decision to buy the executive inn when we had the ice storm hit and nobody had a place to live for the most part or no electric. The called a special meeting of the council where they knew nobody would be able to show up and made their decision in their warm office while the rest of us were busy trying to find a place to stay and keep warm..
I had to laugh when I heard everyone cheering. This is nothing to cheer for. This is a sign of what's to come for the deteriorating city of Owensboro. A ton of factories in the city are closing down. What jobs are available besides walmart & call centers? I wish all the people of Owensboro luck... The city has zero incentive for businesses. This place will be a ghost town in 5 years.
Well hickboy, hopefully they put something in the spot that everyone will enjoy and have more memories with.. It's really hard to top what was there IMHO
It was really sad to watch a landmark that's been so much a part of Owensboro be destroyed. When it was over, it reminded me of walking away from a cemetery after you just buried a real good friend.
I agree wit you Jared. It's hurtful when you work for a place and over a weekend's time they tell you that you are out of a job. Owensboro made a huge mistake letting this hotel close and now destroying it. They say they are going to put up a multi-million dollar hotel. I beg to ask, where is this money coming from? I'm not going to pay for it!
i hope the county and city officials remember this day as the day they wiped owensboro off the map. they need to remember the people who voted for them last time will vote against them next time for doing this atrocity.
this cost us, the taxpayers, close to $40 million just to demo the hotel. wrecking crew cost about $2 million.talk about a huge waste of taxpayers money
no doubt we will be paying for this crap next 20 years or more. In owensboro it isnt about the people. Its about what the Congress wants, and what they think is best quit trying to copy Evansville.
and u must also notice that when they decided to do all this. the commissioners said theyd bring in local workers to do the job yet they r all from out of town. including the ones doing the work on the riverfront. no wonder all the businesses r leaving
i heard there making a new one but what was wrong with old one?

The building was literally falling apart. Slowly falling into the river. It needed to be destroyed.

I believe it still had potential.

I agree, it did have that funeral type of feel to it from opening ceremony to closing.

It's really a shame they destroyed it. It was a really nice hotel and I believe they could have and should have saved it.
