"high quality" haha mine is so flimsy i fear it could break any minute, ride has been horrid since i bought it new, my old malibu was better riding. I wanted to trade even for a civic one model year older at the local dealership but he wanted another 6 grand. I'm stuck with the POS until it's paid for. no more GM for me....
The interior was considered good quality for Small segment cars in 2005. Times have changed and the Cobalt has been replaced by the Cruze which has a much better quality interior.
General Motors announced today that it is recalling 1.3 million cars because the steering may fail. The recall affects the 2005 to 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt.
in europe this is a 7 year old car...and is known as 1998 Opel/Vauxhall Astra G...and the coupe version is the 2000 model.pretty old for 2005 technology and innovations...
even though it started production in 1998 it continued until 2005 and then was replaced with the Astra H...so if GM has kept the specifications and the quality that is used here in europe to produce this model it is a pretty good car...it's simple and reliable...good gas mileage too...
@c00smeen I think, kind of like the Saturn L-Series, GM looked at the Opel model for inspiration... and then cross pollinated it with the (Chevrolet) Cavalier. I'm not sure if this was as good as the Astra was but it at least had better engines overall than the Cavalier it replaced. (BTW... that Cavalier was a slightly updated version of the one they had years ago in the UK)
@DrClaw77 A little too much inspiration if I think about it...the interior looks exactly like VW's Golf/Jetta Mk4...engine- opel...shape- opel...what's GM about this car?...and the coupe is exactly the same as the Astra G coupe minus the tail and front lights, they're similar but not the same...But if it's as reliable and economical and simple as the Astra, then it's a good car...even if it's Franken'car... ;)
That Cobalt SS coupe has incredible handling! At 2:14 it sounds like a mooing cow. I like the Cobalt overall. The materials seem a bit too cheap inside (hard plastic dash, cheap seat fabric, etc), but it seems pretty well built and is very smooth and quiet for an economy car. It drives nice. I just wish it was better looking, not so bland.
