The Grammys are selected by a physical copy of the work that is sent to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the members vote. Jonny Lang, a joke? Whoever said has no music knowledge and should stop smoking crack. I agree Keaggy is one of the best ever GUITAR players but his singing is marginal. Lang is notable for his unusual voice, which has been compared to that of a forty-year-old blues veteran and he has also won a GRAMMY. It's completely two different style's and to say Lang is a below average guitar player is just ignorant. Lang was playing with the likes of Muddy Waters and B.B. King since he was 15. Recognize.

GRAMMYS ARE AWARDED BY THE FOLKS WHO MAKE THE RECORDS.. THEY'RE A PART AND PARCEL TO SELLING MORE RECORDS. LANG HAS A LONG WAY TO GO PLAYING WISE. BETTER THAN AVERAGE VOCALIST. Every time I saw Phil at the Dallas GUitar Show, his set was not missed by the big name players who stood there with their jaws dropped, shaking their heads. He's is a world class player who a lot of the general public is not aware. I've been a fan for decades, go Phil!!

been watching Phil since 1980, and my only wish was i didn't get to see him in 68' or 69'. Look up Guitarist in the dictionary and Phils' pic is there! He is easily one of the best 3 or 4 guitarist to ever live, and my personal fav! In fact him & Hendrix are the best two... period. #3 might be Beck.

Its not about who is the greatest player, its all about musicians doing what they love, and loving what they're doing. We only grade them on what we wish we could be, lord knows if i could play half as good as all the guys i personally love to hear, I would be considered the greatest guitarist on the planet . In my opinion they're all great. they each have their own personality, style and technique and that's what i love.

@travlr423 Its about Phil Keaggy getting the long over due recognition he deserves!!!! The guy is one of the greatest players on the planet! To compare these two is impossible. One plays a five note pentatonic scale that your average fifth grader could comprehend while the other is a virtuoso!!!!!I do agree with you in terms of these silly comparisons on YouTube of who is the best and so forth but Phil Keaggy is a stone cold freak on the guitar and as a musician!

@Musicgearsource Phil Keaggy was light years ahead of those musicians 40 years ago! Jonny Lang is a joke! In a couple years you wont even hear about him anymore. Phil has been around since the late 60s. Even when Phil was in diapers he was smoking Jonny "I wish I could play something other than the pentatonic"Lang! Seriously the guy is below average as a player at best. Our society has to have higher musical standards. Just because you are a pretty boy with a Les Paul dont make you good!
