@Evange Pure buckwheat (that has not been contaminated) is gluten and wheat free. However, most buckwheat baking, bread and pancake mixes contain wheat flour. Always check labels and if they are not clear, check with the manufacturer. I don't reckon it's toxic.

@Evange the leaves are very toxic, but the groats itself are very healthy. I eat it all the time.
