  • Northern tripe!!!! And Noel Edmonds deserves a firing squad!!!! And are matchstalks anything like matchsticks!!! Wish northerners would speak English!!!

  • @bigboyblue1964

As opposed to the south where, unless you speak Polish, Urdu, Gujarati or, in fact, anything other than English, you are in the minority. Up Salford! A bit south of me but still up North!

  • @spiddles123 .....OK, I'll give you that one!!!

  • King of Anglia!

  • Classic joke from Noel at the start!! He's still using that kind of material now.

  • Shitty Zombies!

  • like if alan partridge brought you here

  • wot great times they were in the 1970s so much feeling in the music sadley no more its enough to make you cry

  • Noel Edmonds with a masterclass in how not to introduce a legendary song about a legendary artist.

  • @Kevo00 With hindsight yes, that introduction looks bad today. But for it's time perhaps not.

  • My god what Happy Times thay were for me and me mates

  • i was 5 years old when this came out.......remember listening to it after Sunday lunch when we got the singles out....Mum in the Kitchen washing up, Dad gone to bed for an after lunch nap......why was it that Sunday Lunch was always ready dead on 2pm? Happy days guys, peace and love..........

  • Brilliant !! Thanks for uploading :-)

  • Frank Skinner look alike

  • My first ever record....45p from woolworths

  • It still make me proud to be "Northern"

  • Yes it's great I remember seeing Brian & MIchael working in a bar in spain many years ago doing this number every night ,

But I am sure the high light of the night for them was when this drunken fella they knew use to turn up and do a rendition of Erick claptons you look lovely to night along with hick ups between verses, they were both pissing them selves laughing from behind him wile still playing along

  • thumbs up if alan partridge brought you here

  • happy days :) thank you....

  • I stand to be corrected but i think i may be seeing Sally Lindsey in this line up of the St Winifreds choir.

  • Never fails to raise a tear.

  • love it

  • i remember being a kid and listing to this with my dad in the car ... good times :)

  • Love this song Noel edmonds is such a knob head though......

  • I fell in love with this song when I lived in Wiltshire for a short time...i found it on the tape of 70s hits and was hooked...

  • brilliant still a top vote from me........john

  • Eee bar gum lad, this is brill....

  • With jokes like that, Noel Edmonds should be on Channel 4....Oh...Wait...

Great song though, got it on a vinyl single still. Get's a whirl on the tables now and again.

  • This reminds me of being a kid....Being out on sundays and my mam calling me in for my dinner....She always had the radio on in the kitchen. But on sundays she would be calling me and calling me. But i'd be out playing....When i got in for my dinner, I don't know why but i remember this playing on the radio like it was yesterday......Awesome

  • they dont make music like they used to

  • I sang along to every word of that! Does that make me a bit sad?

  • @Feisty1967 No Me Too!!

  • Aw, they dont make 'em like that anymore. Just imagine when all the English are gone there will be no more great eccentrics or their artworks, inventions, building , architecture; and what you have left will be destroyed or redesigned for ethnic minority inclusiveness. As is happening now in parts of the east end and Brick Lane. Also I notice Manchester City Council is full of L/W vandals intent on destroying much of that already what with the destruction of the churches etc.

  • @rubysson57 Brilliant response!!

  • i remember me mum playing this when i was a kid

  • And we should also enjoy the paintings of LOWRY. You have just got to love the accent. By the way I am an Oz. Luuv it and all of Lancs.

  • And we should also enjoy the paintings of LOWRY

  • @357HFC Visit the Gallery at Salford Quays> I was fortunate enough to host a dinner there with 3 Lowry experts for a private viewing, awesome especially discovering his favourite painter was van Gogh, mine also!

  • me mum, met them both ....good times

    78 ..gorton

  • always reminds me of when i was a kid, i have still got the record that i saved up to buy all them years ago. thanks for this brings bag memories.

  • Isn't the dark haired girl on the bottom row nearest the camera Lindy Brill who went on to appear in Grange Hill? There's a close-up at 2:14

  • @Perranporth No it's not her.

  • nattypoopoos, is that you nathan?

  • @joeyleotard

err... it might be. What are you doing posting here, Joey?

  • Ive just come back from Manchester and Ive had this song in my head all day!

  • articulated LOWRY!!!!

    MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

    ... oh Noel, you're a comic genius!

  • Noel Edmonds. Back when he wasn't a twat. (Deal or no Deal is like a weird religious cult). Love this song. Is it true that the two singers are now serving life in a Norwegian prison for butchering 17 ladies of the night? I do hope not.

  • Always reminds me of Salford when I hear this. Had many happy times there. God bless Manchester!

  • Songs which Mean Something. Compare with today's gangster rap. I rest my case.

  • @sambda Noel Edmunds, crap jokes, dodgy haircuts and black vinyl...... where did it all go?

  • @sambda True true, Sambda,!! a GREAT SONG,!!!

  • @sambda This song is about nothing other than repeating that lowry was a painter and he painted, really makes you think doesn't it? challenged my opinions and brought me to tears ... I'm not a huge fan of gangster rap, but a lot of the lyrics are honest portrayals of the struggle to survive and escape extreme poverty, hardship and the realities of murder and losing love ones. If that doesn't mean something I don't know what does. Easy to dismiss something you know nothing about

  • @davidhellard Suggest you try also listening to the verses, as well as the chorus.

Rap portrays the worst side of music-making. Tuneless, violent, a bad example to kids, sexist, and on, and on. And as for a portrayal of "extreme poverty" - Coolio, Eminem, Snoop Dog... these people could fund trips to the moon!

The day music-making fell to people strutting about speaking along to drum beats.... well one doesn't need to know much to critique *that* - in musical terms it's crap!

  • i love the choruses

  • Once again, congratulations on a wonderful upload nyrainbow4. Lovely to hear this again. Is there anywhere on the Web which lists the old 70s Top of the Pops which survive?
