  • One of the best sounds I've heard on those ? Selmer short shanks. Resonating like a mo fo + nice bottom

  • @sosax02 I think its an Aebersold Play-Along

  • Wow! ^o^

  • I want that mouthpiece!

  • Did you have someone open the tip?

  • @Joedirt099

    yes , twice - it's now .112 . BrianPowell did it

  • What a great sound, full of gutsy, sultry atmosphere. Nice playing.

  • super son, trés beau morceau, continuez!!!

  • this is brilliant, nice sound, in tune, s'all good.

  • great playing !

I use about the same setup now, ( though with a bit different end result tonewise )

    absolutely love it !

  • what sax you got? Vintage obviously. I have a 44 King Zepher with a Dave Gardala Super King.

  • Can you send me the background music?

  • i luv tht

  • yea, Ive got that backing track too. Nice improv though. Very nice

  • q bajos mas potentes amigo

  • Very nice! where can I get the sheet music for this song (SM)

  • this is honestly one of my fav vids of this song..i was wondering if this was a jamey abersold track?

  • Yes, it is. Volume 12: Duke Ellington.

  • VERY nice ! And I have a thing for new unlaquered horns, and horns that started out laquered but lost much of their finish due to wear and tear. Not sure which this is. Looks like an older model ?

  • 1964 Mark VI , hardly any laquer left- beautiful!

    Thanks

  • lovely!

  • Beautiful classic sound

  • exelente

  • i want a mark VI

  • Could you please tell me where you got this backtrack. I would sooooooo grateful.

  • sounds like a Jamie Abersold playalong

  • its the aebersold track

  • Pra quem acha que Mark VI é lenda...está uma maravilhosa prova!!! rsrsrs

  • mate... that's bewdiful playing.

  • it sounds really good. what kind of saxophone is it? is it a metal mouthpiece or a plastic one?

  • Selmer Mark VI, selmer Hard Rubber ( plastic ) Short Shank.

    Peace

  • Quando eu crescer quero tocar assim !!!!!!!

  • Cara! parabéns!seu som é muitíssimo bonito e sua interpretação grandiosa.

  • Thanks Dave. How do you find the piece?

  • Dave,

Sweetness in the sound dept. You inspired me to seek out a Short shank from the 40's, it was just a C* so I had it re-faced by my man on the West Coast and is now a .85. Somebody told me if you open up the old selmers too much they become bright. You have the darkest, warmest tone. The window is oval, I think this must be the key!

All the Best from Way Out West!

  • Wonderful sound, Dave. An awesome classic by the Duke, one of the greatest composers of all time. Thanks for posting this.

  • what brand saxophone is this?? p mauriat??

  • The best!

    I completely became a fan♪

  • that's a great sound there, man!

Warm and...well I hate using the term "sweet" but it is, but without being thin. I hear a lotta folks losin the core/body to their sound when they try to hard to have that sorta sound, but you got it right there.

  • amazing tone my man!

  • Great sound brother!

  • The best sound i've ever heard on Soloist mpc!!! Can you tell me what kind of reeds you use on this clip?

  • Thanks. On this clip it was Vandoren ZZ 3 1/2 s. I've moved onto La Voz since the vandorens changed. Check out a guy called Rich Perry- now he has a sound! I think he uses a soloist too.

  • Have you also tried the Vandoren Javas 3 1/2. Would be interesting to see the difference. The Javas seem more agile to me. I ordered my Selmer Soloist - D size for now. McQueens11 - you should be ashamed of yourself. Just click on "davesax" and you'll see his other videos.

  • very dark and warm. Good stuff. =)

  • You're the best Dave.

    Keep 'er going.

    Cheers.

  • I love the sound production from the mouthpiece, is that a Mark 6 you are playing as well?

  • One of the best I have heard on you tube - love your playing, love the tone. Great phrasing and good choice of notes, maybe in another 10 years I'll be there too!

  • Beautiful tone. Very nice solo.

  • good!

  • Awesome

  • Wow...really great sound. I heard a lot of dexter influence in your playing, yet you still managed to be you, not a Dexter clone. Great work.

  • Nice sound. Wondering if you could slap a few other mouthpieces on the same horn for us to hear. Otherwise, just play something - you sound beautiful.

  • Thankyou. I only have one mouthpiece sorry. I do know that this responds and sounds a lot different to my previous ones though.

    I enjoyed your flute videos.

    Dave

  • Muito bom , gostei do som , parabéns!!!

  • mark VI awesome! weldone man really dig the tone

  • beautiful sound.. make sure you don't lip down too much. its a good technique when used sparingly but if used too often it gets repetitive and too dysinent. Great otherwise (good solo).

  • Thanks. Do you mean dissonant? Its interesting to hear others preference of interpretation.

  • yeah haha... spellings a bit bad. btw i watched it a second time and realized it wasnt as prevalent as i thought, but still a bit too much.

  • Really nice! How come you don't have more videos?

  • Cool!

Could you please tell us about your setup and recording setup? Thanks

  • Thanks. I recorded it with the video option on my cheap digital camera, really just to hear the mouthpiece. It is a selmer short shank ' D' opened to .105 with a Mark VI sax.

  • Excellent! What a simple recording setup but have a huge and subtone sound recorded. Did you edit or mix the recorded file by any software?

  • perfect...nice sound, i liked how you expressed it. Whats your set up?
