@gaozhi2007 : I'm familiar with and like the Mandarin language better than the Cantonese language; however, I do agree with you. This song just sounds much better sung in Cantonese.
@VivianLuux3 Cantonese is a dialect of Chinese, I think you meant Mandarin.
The song's language versions come in the order like this: 1972 (Japanese, Miyuki Nakajima, Naomi Chiaki ) / 1992 (Cantonese, Faye Wong) / 1993 (Mandarin, this song) / 1993 (English, Jessica Jay), then Thai, Vietnamese, Bermese, Turkish, etc...
The Cantonese Version came out first in Hong Kong , it's SO POPULAR here in HK at that moment, later on the Mandarin Version disk out but it's not much popular in Beijing bcos the young generation of China luv Pop rock music. Faye Wong was get fame in Hong Kong with this song.
@VF5 Actually you are right. But in this case the lyrics are completely different as @njis3w said. This is typical for Mandarin vs. Cantonese versions; because of pronunciation difference, lyrics are usually rewritten to achieve rhyming for instance.
This is a very famous song, translated to many languages already. Bring back old memories!! But actually who is the mandarin singer who sings the song?

Is the lyric have the same meaning as its Cantonese version?
VF5 2 years ago
no..
winnzhang 2 years ago
@VF5 no, the meanings of the lyrics are actually quite different.
in cantonese, it means this heart broken woman has finally met a guy who mends her broken heart tenderly.
in mandarin, it means quite the contrary. the woman is heart broken because she cannot tell whether her man loves her or not.

@njis3w I thought both dialectwriting is the same just pronunciation of the word are different. Sorry i don't know chinese.

but she is already with another person
this is the way things are in life
and he is a very good, better person than me
so, i wish not pursue her, even if i like her,
even if i realize that never i met someone as her
because i wish she will be happy, and i think
that this will be so with him

I dont like girls but i met one
she if good hearted, pretty and funny
so different than any person I met before
never i met someone as her in the path of my life
just seeing her made me happy
talking with her made me smile
i liked her very much since first time i talked with her
so unconsciously i wished from the bottom of my heart
that i could be able to make her happy
give to her the best part of me
