I just realized that for the "flashback," they gave Karen back her old hairstyle... cute! (Too bad they didn't put her behind the drums for that one, too- check out her drumming in the 1960s "Dancing in the Street" video!)
@arfies According to Carpenters Fan Club Newsletter #59: "At the high school dance they will play Do Ron Ron, Fun, Fun, Fun and End Of The World, & Karen & Charlie will do a drum duet to Dancing In The Streets." Guess the latter either didn't happen [nor did two of the songs mentioned] or it was shelved in favor of having Karen do a dance number instead- a shame, since that would've been cool. Charlie Callas (the annoying "sound engineer") was originally a drummer.
@arfies Gotta Love the fans who look at every little detail & research everything Add another little tid bit you won't find in print, Space encounters was changed around alot & during this time. It was pretty much by the seat of pants. A number of things that were filmed never made it to the final cut which was absolutely fantastic work, but television only gives you so much time .Karen had fun doing this one, great comment, thanks.
@vmuto1 I wonder if we'll ever see this extra footage? (My guess is no, but I can hope). I know the "Pocahontas" skit with John Denver was cut from the first 1976 special, as one can see a bit of it in the intro.
Good version of Dancing in the Street. Thanks so much for posting this. Liked Tony's 'Mad DJ' routine, too. Too bad Karen couldn't hook up with him, they'd been a great couple

Tony Peluso (the guitarist with the long hair and the DJ voice) just passed away this summer, June 2010. RIP, and thanks for the music, Tony.
