Brian Setzer, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix... These 3 men I hold solely responsible for my addiction to expensive guitars! Great song, great player, absolutely AWESOME guitar.
Its not the 'old' Gretsch whats he's playing. Don't see the skullsticker, Lady Luck and the cat. The 'old' one should make his performance even better!
I have a couple of their albums (yes vinyl) never thought i would ever see The Stray Cats live . 2009 at the Tivoli (think it's spelt right) Brisbane Aust. 25 year anniversary farewell tour. They were so good, rockabilly at it's best. I have witnessed the best living guitarist and double bass player ever live.the Stray.Cats will forever rock-a-billy through my veins
I dont think he got the story straight tho in this song as he goes on about skinheads which was a different group than the Mods. Mods had little but some hair and wore suits and funny coats. Skinheads just wore rolled up jeans and shaved their heads. There were 4 groups really: Punks, Mods, Skins and Rockers. Of course being an American this English news might have been somewhat confusing?
I thought about picking one up until I looked at the price tag. The 6120 Brian Setzer models are $2500-$3200 (a little more expensive than the Hagstrom, lol). To be honest, I've played two of 'em, and they're worth every penny, if I had that many pennies. Buy the Hagstrom (or any nice hollow-body), and strap some TV-Jones Setzer model pickups in it. It'll save you almost $2000 and get you a real similar tone. Good luck.
you are exactly right ! Brian has such an amazing voice. He is one of the rare artist that can actually PLAY A musical instrument and accompany it by superb singing. I have just about every stray cat cd and now and moved into collecting all the big band stuff, and I think no matter what he sings he's fantastic at it!
good to see someone agree w/ what I've been saying. They gotta quit it w/ the tony iommis, dave mustaines, and eddie van halens, on the magazines for a little while. This man deserves to be on the cover for once. I definitely put Brian, Dick Dale, and Link Wray in the underrated list as well.
@frijolero01 I had the pleasure of seeing Link Wray live a couple weeks before he passed away, i can honestly say it was one of the best concerts ive ever seen
@frijolero01 You are so right, that's all I ever hear about it people like iommis, and slash, and a bunch of other hacks. It would definitely be nice to see some one with some class and talent on the cover of one of these guitar magazines such as Django ( I know he's dead lol) Setzer, Robert Conti. I'm just tired of the penotonic scale, 3 chord wonders getting all the spotlight.
@Metallica1419 Not to start anything... but Iommi isn't a hack. Slash, I agree. He's boring. But Iommi was great... it's ridiculous to compare him to Setzer at any rate. Both are great guitarists. Just rock out with both!
@Metallica1419 ... I must agree with you. I've seen him in concert four times, and the riffs he plays live while singing and attending to the crowd--all without losing the groove--are simply amazing.
@Metallica1419 actually I think Prince of all people is the most underrated guitar player, a lot of people don't even realize he plays the guitar, and better than most I might add, however Brian Setzer is definitely underrated and one of the best to walk the earth.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, perhaps he was detaching from the small audience due to the awkwardness of the small room. Even a performer finds certain venues uncomfortable.
Really interesting video. Thanks for posting. I love this song. Setzer is a genious... I hope he hang on the Stray Cats and let loose the orchestra. I prefer always the Stray Cats.
Brian is without a doubt probably the best guitarist around today. His tone and use of chords and structure and his crisp speed make him the best as virtuoso. There are others that are faster and louder and sound good, but they are not in this guys class of unlimited talent.Keep on Rockin' Brian ...KC
I would say that is a bold, but possibly very accurate statement. He's among the top five by far, up there with Dick Dale, John Mayer, Eric Clapton and Ricky Skaggs. He's my biggest influence on my writing and playing style right now. He can switch styles on a dime not to mention playing techniques. He understands the relationships between tones better than almost anyone and can execute runs and complex rhythm patterns with few mistakes, almost like Chet Atkins, but with better tone. Superb!
on the fender website it says bass man and princeton amps.(my mistake) as far as effects Uses strictly old technology: tape slapback echo, Echoplex, old chorus echo. Thats a quote from his bio page. He has a pretty extensive web site @brian setzer, com or go to fenderplayersclub, com for his bio.
What an amazing player. By the way do you play guitar?
I imagine with the vintage effects and the warm distortion they would cause would add a little bit to the clipping. Turn up the amp loud to where it's clipping a bit too and feed it a hot pickup from a Gretsch. You're going to get some edge on your tone, for sure. I also watched a video where he used a green vintage overdrive pedal, may have been a Tube Screamer. That definately gave it more drive, but not so much that the tones started to bleed excessively.
So fantastic that Brian setzer wrote about the mod's and Rockers in my home town.. Brighton... They still meet up once a year on bank holidays. And rumble down on the beach.. He's so cool
Yes, it was in the VH1 Classic studio - I had the honor of being one of the 10 people in the audience (standing in the back) for this amazing performance (I used to be an assistant editor for the channel) -- it is a day I will never forget. Thanks for posting.

I wouldn't have to get the setzer model, I could just get their basic hollowbody and it'd already be similar. Maybe then add those p'ups, eh?
Besides, I still need to save up for that Fender amp he's rockin', lol. Bet that's way more or atleast as much as his sig model.
