I don't own the 6000 anymore but as a "winter" car these carbureted 2.8s are best, because on mine I had a chronic problem with vapor lock in the summer.. no matter what I did I couldnt solve it, I eventually chalked it up to the high alcohol content in modern "gasoline".
@itsmegp46 -- I wonder how many miles were on them... and rust is a fact of life up there... I bought a 7-year old Crown Vic in Whitehall once that already had some rust...
@itsmegp46 - Yes, there were. 1982-1985 if memory serves. It was a 4.3L V-6 Oldsmobile diesel, based loosely on the 5.7L V-8 Olds diesel. They are actually not a bad engine, and they are not a gas conversion like everyone thinks. There was a 4.3L V-8 Oldsmobile diesel as well, which I believe gave them the bad rep. Most of the failures with the 4.3 V6 and 5.7 V8 diesels were directly related to improper maintenance or driving habits. You can search Century 4.3 diesel on here and there are vids.
@Mysterio2276 Thanks, I will check out the diesels on the Centurys. However, I was around to see first hand the Olds V-8 diesels in their Delta 88's. Those were really bad, underengineered engines. Lots of issues even with relatively low mileage cars.
@itsmegp46 - Keep in mind, like I said, there was a 4.3L V8 diesel as well as the 5.7L V8 diesel. The 5.7L V8 was a good engine, the 4.3L V8 was not. And I believe that was the first one to come out. Lots of people are getting the 5.7L confused with the 4.3L .
@itsmegp46 - I will concur that the "D" block engines had problems... DX's were much better however, and further research indicates that the 4.3L V6 was a better engine than the 5.7L, mostly due to better head design (more head bolts per cylinder on the V6).
interesting that this has a chev 2.8v6 my dad had a 1982 1st year of this bodystyle and it had the 3.0L version of the buick v6 with a 2bbl carb equipped with continuously malfunctioning Computer command control
@Pghpunkid Not really. No car in the early 90's was that big. Cars today like Tauruses, Chargers and the sort are much bigger, and even those aren't "boats." Not to mention early 90's Continentals were little front wheel drive cars.

Had a 1984 LA Olympics Edition car with the 3.0 liter V6. Rode smooth as silk. Kept it till 1995.

The ultimate throwaway car.

@itsmegp46 - Throwaway? Bah. I had an 86 with the same engine that refused to die. I ran the piss out of it too.

@Mysterio2276 The ones I used to see around me, (NJ), were usually smoking and rusting back to its original elements.

@itsmegp46 - LOL -- sounds like most of the ones you saw were diesels or 4 cylinders...

@Mysterio2276 Were there Buick Century diesels? What years? I'm not aware of this.

Nice. I drive a 1985 Pontiac 6000, same thing, Chevy 2.8 V6 with the 2 barrel Varajet carb. These were and are still great cars.

if you think the '84 century is a big car then you obviously dont know much about cars.

He right, look at things like Torenos(sp?), Early 90's Cadillacs and Continentals.. THOSE are boats!

He just knows nothing about big cars or American cars. I could practically put a 1984 Century in the trunk of my 1974 Le Sabre

remember, the '84 century was not considered a big car. it was a mid sized compact.

I had an '85, and it was a pos. Only because the people who owned it before me didn't take good care of it. Yours looks good, though.
