ey guys im a 14 year old athlete hoping to go to the youth world champs next year, the 100 and 200 should both be run flat out although the 200 you have to run the bent more relaxed otherwise you tend to run wider causing you to lose time, i dont know what this commentator is talking about, none the less a great race...bolt still in the early days
Did the commentator say you can't run the 200m and the 100m all out ? I thought both races were ran all out. I thought the 400m was the race that you couldn't run all out.
@Dmacho78 in a 200m you should probably have 10-20m that you run at 95% speed - you shouldnt do that bit at the end like Bolt did here. Also, that period will change depending on wind.
The 100m is a different issue, look up Maurice Greene talking about it
@sign05 Right....sure it was.....like taking the sport seriously, eating chicken nuggets, showing up to prelim heats and smoking them without warmup. Bolt is the new and improved marion jones. In one sense, they don't want to catch bolt on roids, because it would destroy the sprints. But let's be serious, training for the sprints is not that complex nor difficult. Essentially, you work on the different phases of the race. To cut .5 seconds off your time, it is truly unbelievable.

MJ was Mr. consistency, granted the 100m is more difficult. What i would LOVE to see would be some NFL freaks do track, but this is unrealistic given they've trained and muscled up for football. Calvin Johnson, 6'5 3/4, 235lbs, ran a 4.3340yrd dash, and a 10.23 100m while training for the NFL.

Ideally, I'd like to see him switch to 400m and long jump assuming he wins and dominates the olympics again. This would be unprecedented.
Before Bolt lovers go crazy, realize i am a fan of Bolt as well, but as an american, I'm just trying to illustrate that we lose alot of potential sprinters to the NFL which is more domestic and pays the bills nicely. Calvin johnson also has a 43inch vertical jump. If he would lose 20lbs, and train solely on track and field, he would be a bolt like threat IMO. Same height, ability to accelerate out of the blocks like a shorter athlete, but he's carrying too much muscle, etc.
I just noticed Bolt was not running on the inside of his lane on the curb, that would have helped him some but I still think Spearmon would have caught him.
@plus563 It's not about fatigue, it's about the human body you. You can't run at your top SPEED for more than 6 or 7 seconds. You might feel fine but you'll be slowing down. You just hope you slow down less than others. Any sprinter knows this.

@MrAnimeFreak777 i know, a lot of the american commentators who commentate on athletics don't know enough about the sport. You tire and slow a little in the last 30m of a 100m race, but you can run it flat out. And you can run the 2 like 99% flat out aswell lol.

@oakaziz True. We'll see how he does this year. If he had the work ethic of Michael Johnson, he would be better off and would be more consitently faster. MJ was Mr. consistency, granted the 100m is more difficult. What i would LOVE to see would be some NFL freaks do track, but this is unrealistic given they've trained and muscled up for football. Calvin Johnson, 6'5 3/4, 235lbs, ran a 4.3340yrd dash, and a 10.23 100m while training for the NFL.

@oakaziz It doesn't sound like anything, but it looked pretty good. The bolt has shut my mouth, onto London. Let's see if he can go sub 19 and sub 9.5. If he does that, IMO, he has surpassed Flo Jo's records on the scale of the ridiculous. And if he beats Johnson's 400m record which is well within his reach, he officially would not be human. Ideally, I'd like to see him switch to 400m and long jump assuming he wins and dominates the olympics again. This would be unprecedented.

Before Bolt lovers go crazy, realize i am a fan of Bolt as well, but as an american, I'm just trying to illustrate that we lose alot of potential sprinters to the NFL which is more domestic and pays the bills nicely. Calvin johnson also has a 43inch vertical jump. If he would lose 20lbs, and train solely on track and field, he would be a bolt like threat IMO. Same height, ability to accelerate out of the blocks like a shorter athlete, but he's carrying too much muscle, etc.

@plus563 It's not about fatigue, it's about the human body you. You can't run at your top SPEED for more than 6 or 7 seconds. You might feel fine but you'll be slowing down. You just hope you slow down less than others. Any sprinter knows this.

thats not true u only reach ur top sped for most people 30 to 40 meters into the race when u start out you cant b running as fast as the middle of the race because u hvnt started excelerating yet so the commentator is right... and second off u can only run full speed for about 50 and ur body starts to decelerate no matter if ur usaine bolt or not

@MrAnimeFreak777 i know, a lot of the american commentators who commentate on athletics don't know enough about the sport. You tire and slow a little in the last 30m of a 100m race, but you can run it flat out. And you can run the 2 like 99% flat out aswell lol.

@MrAnimeFreak777 well, if you are not accelerating, you are slowing down, that is how human muscles work. a race is simple - acceleration(drive phase), trasition phase - hold on to top speed, maintanence phase - whoever slows down the least looks like they are speeding up.
