her acting/ stage precense is better than somova, but vishneva is still much much better. Its interesting, I find many russian ballerinas to be superhuman in their amazing technique, extensions, etc, but their stage precense is just not like what you'd see elsewhere, like in royal ballet, abt, nycb, or other companies. But of course they are amazing dancers

Unfortunately, you are right. Those good extensions are not an end in itself. She can't make them meaningful. The wrong smile as you put it suggests inner emptiness. Sad!!! Beautiful body, amazing technique.
hello. i do ballet and like svetlana zakharoa, i have an extremely high arched foot and hyper extended legs. i have a lot of difficulty controlling my legs on pointe, i just started. does anyone know a solution to this?
do lots and lots and lots of releves...seriously. I know people with your difficulties. try to role through half toe of your foot when you're on pointe.(but be careful not to over work anything, because bodies do need to rest, and in time you will get stronger).
Well, technically she is perfect, as well as performance wise. However, I don't see why everyone here is moaning about her extensions - I am sure the audience will be wowed everytime they see her do it. And besides, this is a choreographed piece - its probably not entirely up to her where they put all the extensions and devlopes.

i love svetlana, but to be honest this performance seemed to much over the top. Don Quixote isn't about over the top extentions or big ass smile, or the sharpest head glare you can give, it's about taste and the spanish culture and the spice! I just expected more that's all.

Classical ballet is a lot of hard work, those dancers often need to sacrifice a lot and they need to be very determined to reach their goals. It often means leaving your home at a very young age to study in a major ballet-school.

You should look beyond technique! Sylvie Guillem, who IS the grand mistress of phenomenal technique, also possesses great intelligence and authenticity. She does not rely solely on the abilities of her body, rather uses her mental capabilities to interpret a role, not merely perform the steps.

Actually I've read his memoirs, and my teacher who knew Margot Fonteyn, Alica Alonso, etc. personally told him about Petipa.
