  • very nice playing, I prefer a little slower tempo

  • What are you talking about, "almost passable attempt"? That was awesome! Playing these wonderful pieces shouldn't be only reserved for the Goulds and the Richters among us.

  • That was really nice :-) I play the piece myself. I find your interpetation very close to mine acctually.

    Cheers,

    Tobias

  • Perfect. This is exactly what a clavichord should sound like...not too loud...well done

  • 2ns keyboard instrunebt, the pipe organ is older, used since 1300-1400.

  • After hearing that I could bet that Bach wrote the goldberg variations for a clavichord.

  • Hannibal.

  • Passable?.. I'm afraid only for you! ;)

  • What a terribly rude thing to say. If you are as much of a Baroque keyboard music elitist as you seem, you should be pleased that someone is loving this music and playing it at all. Not to mention on a period instrument. Are you the type to scorn Glen Gould for playing Bach on a piano? Shame on you.

  • Ooooooh, poor JackieMab! Are you deaf? The disturbing stuff is musurgia's mechanic, insensitive playing, not the instrument!

  • Au contraire, what is disturbing is your insensitivity to someone who is likely an inexperienced player. You should be encouraging the player to improve, not merely putting him or her down without any constructive criticism whatsoever. So, unless you would like to rephrase your rebuke into something that can help this student of music to attain greater skill in playing both accurately and with proper emotion, I humbly recommend that you spend your time doing something more useful.

  • Isma777, forgive me for not responding in your beautiful native tongue of Castilian, but I too find it tedious to translate myself. I do not so much find it a sound interpretation of the aria. It seems as if you have continued to fail to understand what I am trying to say about this video: I am merely trying to indicate to you that your criticism is not constructive. If you want to help the player improve, tell them what is wrong. Don't just attack them. Do you now understand?

  • I love the sound man. I want a clavichord now!!!

It's easy to transport right? Relatively small and probably light weight? I will probably buy one if I move into an apartment. Way better than a silly electric keyboard.

post the rest of the variations...

  • How much do these things on average cost?

Love the sound. Is the action similar to a piano?

  • A lot! its an ancient instrument, one of the, if not the, first keyboard instrument. Its light, expensive and terrible to play unless u know how to: the sound doesn't behave like in piano..

  • You are really good; as far as I know, the only existing performance on the market of the whole Goldberg Variations on the clavichord is by Jaroslav Tuma on Arta records. Why don't You record Your own version? I would buy it for sure!

  • very nice

  • "almost passable", my butt. That was wonderful. I've been wanting to hear the Goldbergs on Clavichord for years. Nice work! You can hear my version of Variation 1 on electric bass at jsbach dot net / bass.

  • Do you know how I could find a clavichord? I have a harpsichord. But love the sound of this alot better.

  • That's a magnificent instrument, musurgia! I have a Carl Fudge C/E-c3 double-fretted which I've done a lot of work on, but it'll never sound as fine as your Hubert. Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to more!

  • Hello and thank you. I wouldn't do so far as "magnificent" but the instrument is pleasurably mellow without the rubber band twang I find so annoying in many clavichords.

  • Lovely to see and hear the clavichord, What model is it? fretted or unfretted?

  • Hello, thanks for your comment. This is a double fretted instrument after Hubert with a compass of C to d''', built from a Paris Workshop kit. I didn't build it myself but bought it second hand.
