I think better she uses rifles (especially lever action) because i gave her a lever action shotgun and she shoots like the fucking shotgun were a goddamn medium range rifle.

give her a shotgun and keep with the ammo. give her the ammo when the fight is close to the enemy (Deathclaws, those green ghouls, Cazadores, Nightstalkers, etc) Its very effective.

Ahhh, and the essencial: Have a stock of whiskey. good when the fight gets hard...

I don't like giving NPCs shotguns because they tend to start wasting shells at long range even on passive. I prefer giving them a gun with low spread and cheap or common ammo. I don't like Cass anyway so I usually let the Van Graffs turn her into a pile of ash.

how do you get your companions to wield other weapons and not there default weapons please respond dannybaker.

@alexrocksguitarhero Easy! :D You interact with your companion using the "companion wheel" and choose the "Open Inventory" option here you can give your companion items (e.g. chems, weapons and armour) to hold and possibly they will only use an item if it succeeds the damage of their default weapon and lastly if you give then a gun you HAVE to give give them ammo for it or else they'll be unable to use it

@BUCKWHEAT639 If you have recently updated the game on your console you should see a map marker on the pipboy showing you her current position or you can go to gun runners and use the companion terminal to send all companions back to their areas or the lucky 38 :)

You can get both of Cass's perks if you get Calm Heart first and then go and Kill the Van Graffs and Alice McLafferty.

Also, Dinner Bell is better than any other shotgun for her because for some reason she reloads this weapon ridiculously fast. Plus it has a very tight spread and when used with Slug ammo it can function extremely well at long range.
