  • But can you still play 24? Inside Joke This is dope

  • absolutely incredible!

  • At twelve I couldn't do this. Maybe I should just give up...

The Funny thing about The Rachmaninov Prélude in c-sharp is that every kid plays it too fast just because they CAN :D

  • At twelve I couldn't do this. Maybe I should just give up...

  • You look like a 16 year old. I say you were 16, not 12..

  • Comment removed

  • Lovely family too.

    Sorry I was so long-winded...

    Ugh!

  • I played that "Rocky" piece and you got it down at 12 better than I did at 20. lol I think you're gifted; it comes so natural for you. Unlike me who always wanted to play as a child, but couldn't afford lessons, but still I have to struggle with every piece. I have absolutely NO natural talent - NONE! Zip! Nada!

    :(

So bad , that I gave up piano for 3 years and played violin, something I don't regret, btw. But I'm back with piano because it's my first love.

  • Amazing! He should have gotten 5 stars for this video. He's putting it all out there, and it sounds GREAT!

    Wonderfully done!

  • Geeeze, I wanna hit this kid with a sack of dead rabbits! This is waay amazing.... And I suck more and more every day ;(

  • blazetrm3223, it takes lots of time and effort. Are you wiling to put the time in? Also, it takes patience! You have to practice very, very, very, very, extremely SLOW for a long time until you feel comfortable with the piece. We always want to play as written, and hurry to get there with no foundation, and then it falls apart. Trust me, I know because I do this all the time. lol lol I'm trying to SLOW down while practicing, and take all the time required before gradually going to tempo.

  • blazetrm3223, keep playing slowly until you really know the piece, perhaps even some parts with eyes closed. It just takes patience. It could take you a year or so to finish a difficult piece, but don't be discouraged and give up. I heard a concert pianist say it took him 18 mos. to perfect a difficult piece. I bet you have lots of talent. That's what I keep telling myself, but we'll see. lol

    ; )

  • i dont mean to profile by skin colour but i want to praise blacks for good hand and eye coordination, hail art tatum etc, i just think more of them should become so greatly interested in piano

  • Muy bien, talentoso!!!

  • wow you played better when you were younger!

  • You really don't look like 12.

  • 12!? You rock now, and you rocked back then, too.

  • I am so sorry, I am with a friend and he put that. You have a lot of talent, and I think that you are great :).

Please sorry, I don´t put that

  • LOL you have to be just as bad to have friends like that

  • It is Debussy "Gradus ad Parnassum" from "Children Corner" Album

  • You don't look 12 on this movie...

  • second that

  • He doesn't sound like 12 either. He plays with skill a few years beyond his age.

  • take 5 from the Dave Brubeck band.....nice!!!

  • Regarding your Rachmaninoff performance (and the subtitles regarding your performance) - it's not that you were playing Rach at 12, but rather that you were playing Rach at WARP 9! ;-)

But I didn't notice any mistakes--just great piano playing of technically and musically difficult works. Simply amazing! Thank you for sharing this (and your other performances).

  • You were a grown ass kid.

  • hahaha lol

  • This is great. I can totally relate. I butchered "Claire de Lune" as a kid of about about the same age. If you're familiar with that piece...you know the big chords marked ppp right after the main theme? I loved to play them FFF....I think I drove my teacher CRAZY!!!

  • This is sooo cute

OMG you were ridiculously talented even as a kid

  • Rofl i'm just like you. I'm trying to learn scriabin etude op 8 no 12 at the age of 12. Did you finish the Rachmaninov one. Lol I knew we were alike but not this much alike! Jeez!

  • u kno what i've been trying to do myself? taking classical songs like this and jazzing it up. You should try it sometime and add beatboxing. Jazz is part of your culture.

  • hey im 17 and i want to learn rachs prelude, i can play chopins 20 nocturne perfectly, do you think im gonna have a really hard time trying to learn the prelude?

  • it's not that hard, you'll be fine

  • You were good even at 12! I'm 12 and you played much better than me now.. :)

  • For playing to fast it was still good. You had heart back then too. I listen to you for your heart. Funny how you grab me even at different speeds and styles. You are just plain...fun to listen to. Then and now.

  • that is simply amazing!!! How did you learn that fast?!

  • That is seriously good for 12 years old only.

  • excellent job!

  • i'm curious to how long you took to learn those...cause you were really really really good for that age!

also, what is the first piece called? i love it!

  • The first piece is Dr Gradus at Parnassum, by Debussy (from his Children's corner). At my school, it was a standard exam piece because there are things that sound easy but in reality are pretty hard to play evenly.

  • Nice job - the Debussy "Graddus" had good tempo and cross-overs. The Rach C# prelude speed and dynamics were excellent. The Fur Elise was just ok and the Brubeck Take 5 needed work but all in all very amazing for a 12 year old. Your recent recordings are almost professional level. Would love to see this in concert.

  • oh and nice house you had.. well, you have, but with things in different place, anyways, it's nice both ways as far as i have seen on your videos =)

  • hey thanks a lot ileana, I always appreciate your support on my vids, and the jazz piece was Take 5 by Dave Brubeck

  • well you played much better than what i would have been able to play when i was 12.. btw, what's the name of the jazz piece? cuz i heard it some time ago and then i saw your video playing it on piano and made me wanna play it too,(no i'm not trying to copy you is just that.. ah well i can't explain it).. but god i love you x)

  • AH I Finally found a video of you playing dr gradus!!!

  • i wish i had a grand . . . lol i only just got a piano, and only six months before i go to college, but then i get to practice on stienway grands haha

  • Aw your not playing rachmaninoff too fast for your skill yes, but rachmaninoff played so fast it's scary.

  • it wasn't that bad. and don't blame it on age you've been playing for 9 years. It was a good performance.

you should see me play liszt on my first year playing piano. that's why i'm to ashamed to post videos. but, I've been playing for almost 18 months now. so i'm much better (sarcasm).

That leads to a question, should i learn some basic technique before learning all the songs that give me the enthusiasm to play? Please!

  • very Interesting to see you as a lill boy. I think it is funny to see you playing the Rach prelude in C # minor and then just then you start playing Fur Elise lol.

    I liked it

  • Take Five is a really good song :)

I can play it on the piano and drums, but I'm going to try the sax now ^^

  • woooww!! you were amazing even at 12

  • Could you please tell me what the name of the Debussey piece was? I don't remember ever hearing it before. I think it is one that I am going to fall in love with.

Also, did you once say that you were going to take a break from classical to work on jazz? If you did, are you going to post any of those? Thank you! I enjoyed this.

  • Hey thanks, yeah i'm going to post some jazz soon, the Debussy piece was 'Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum' from the Children's Corner Suite

  • Amazing dude!!

And this is when you werent 'serious' about playing!!

  • Even at 12 you were better than me...

    Nice work buddy

  • nice house

  • Dang, you're like the American Evgeny Kissin! You rock. I'm a huge fan of your Rachmaninov and Chopin pieces, well, basically anything you play, it's fantastic.

  • Sweet.... Rudd

  • one word: awesome!

  • Nice job, amazing for only 12 years old! What was that jazz piece at the end?

  • Thanks, it was Take 5 by Dave Brubeck

  • My God...from a young age you were exceptional!

  • At f*ckin' 12? Are you kidding me?

  • your family must be proud of you now :) , excellent

  • win

  • Dam Cambry, you were always a genius! I sucked at age 12 O_O

  • Wow, I'm 31 and I play half as good as you did even at 12! But I'm working on bettering my playing with a very qualified teacher. The piano is my passion! I enjoy all your videos. Keep up the good work!!

  • you were already 3 times better than me and I'm 16 lol

    nice playing!!

  • Very nice, kid!

    (^o^)

    Your house is also lovely.

  • Nice and clean. and at 12.... not bad at all. I didn't learn tis until I was 17, and I didn't play it as well. Bravo Cambry!

  • how do you like this?

    YOU NOOOOOOOOB!

hahhaha, and on this video too you jumbo dork.

Dude, I forgot to favourite this.

PS. HIIIIIIIIIII ALEXXXXXXX! I LOVE YOU! XD

  • why aren't you on aim??

  • that's two emails you have to check now noob!

  • wtf...emails? i deleted AIM to keep me from being distracted, yo. I'll get on AIM light, or AIM express...whatever they call it nowadays. that web-based, AIM shit...

  • fur elise and take five nice choices

  • doctor gradus!...sweet

  • very impressive for only 12 years old. i espically liked the first piece.

  • Wow! How long did it take you from day 1 to play at an advanced level? Did you like piano when you were a kid or did your parents force you to play?

  • is that the same piano in your current vids? what's the make/model?

  • nice work..wish i had picked up my instrument at age 12.

  • When did you pick the harmonica up? Sounds like you picked it up right when you were born, you're too awesome with it man haha

  • Im very good at piano but good like you. You are very amazing 0_0

  • wow.. this is amazing stuff!! totally jealous.. even when you were 12!!

  • Learn take five so it swings man!

  • Hi Cambry, great to see a video of you when you were only 12! You played very well and you looked very tall!

  • Thanks Vivian! I'm sure you'll be way better at 12

  • Oh My Cambry. Mistakes? Your rocking the roof off at 12 my man. WOW! Holy COW Man! Awesome that you posted this. Thanks man, it's a wonderful performance!

  • Thanks Greg and I have also tuned into every vlog you posted about the Original Music Database, thanks for stopping by!

  • WOW! Thanks man!

  • hey, nice 'Take Five' by Brubeck at the end of the vid.

  • Wow Cambry .. this brings a tear to my eyes for several reasons ..

1- We're that much closer as friends now

2- I play piano .. fairly well .. BUT .. I'll NEVER be able to play LIKE THAT .. and jeez yer 12 :( waahhh .. haha

3- i picture your grandma .. and other family members and i KNOW how proud you must have made them feel ..

    5 KAH-ZILLION STARs :) .. from me .. your friend jeff :)

  • Thanks Jeff, I appreciate the compliments, i'll be chatting with you very soon man

  • It is really nice to see you play when you are in your younger years! It seems you were already introduced to advanced music at an early age, which is good because I think a lot of teachers don't let their students experiment enough. Wonderful job on all the pieces. You must have had big hands to play the Rachmaninoff at 12!

  • Hey haven't seen your name in a while ivrykeys! Yeah my teacher didn't really want me playing this stuff either and wasn't supportive of it until I got to high school, I grew up playing the Suzuki method and he was skeptical about me playing anything else that wasn't in those books, I luckily found a CD that had other composers on it around the school and that's how I decided I would look for sheet music for this music

  • Lol yeah, but I've still been watching your videos! It sounds like you got hooked onto classical the same way that I did. My friend loaned me this CD entitled "CBS Masterworks: Piano Greatest Hits Vol. III" That CD really opened my head up to classical. I didn't have the booklet to the CD, but I found out [years later] that the CD had recordings of pretty good artists. Glenn Gould playing Mozart to Philip Entremont playing Scriabin.

  • I can see that your talent was a family project. Does the rest of your family play?

  • Thanks Tay, the answer is no though, no one else in my family knows much about playing music, especially classical music and they definitely could not name one song that I play at all haha

  • Interesting. So you had a nice grand piano in your home that nobody played 'til you were born? We are all blessed that you took so well to the furniture LOL.

  • haha actually that piano was bought when I was 10 when we moved into that house, and it was definitely bought just as furniture, it wasn't regulated or anything, it looks nice and works with the room but played *really* bad until now (as of 2 months ago) since I had a new action regulation on the piano, when I go back to that house and practice it's way better now

  • also it wasn't bought specifically for me either, my brother and sister did take lessons and didn't continue on with it on that piano for a few more years, and at that age my family didn't really have anyone else to compare me to in terms of my playing so there was no way of knowing if I really had skills or not

  • you look like a midget, like the piano is on the floor.. and you have no legs, gives it a short feeling fo rsome reason :O, but sweet action piano playing

  • haha thanks for commenting Ansel, I think I was too big at 12 for my legs to swing, I was probably 5'3" at that age

  • coool... well I'm going to college WOOOT! UNF (University of North Florida) Ospreys!! too continue studies in classical and jazz, if I ace the audition, so I gots to get prepared ^.^, wish me luck!! stay amazing at the piano :P

  • very nice! its always nice to reflect on your old playing videos for any musician

  • Thanks for checking it out sterling!

  • Extraordinary at 12! Out of this world now!

  • Thanks Mike! nice to hear from you again

  • My pleasure! Your spirit, self-assurance and Olympian talent are a joy to behold. Your vids bring me great pleasure and have helped my through very rough times. God bless you!

  • do you give lessons? where are you located?

  • I give lessons in Chicago or over iChat on Mac

  • dude your house kick some serious ass. and no disrespect to ya but your moms pretty. big ups

  • haha thanks, she'll be glad to read that comment

  • how old were you when you began taking lessons?

  • Wow.

Even then you were great at the piano.[:

  • Hey I wanted to hear more !

  • What else can I say but charming! Regardless of the mistakes and the playing too fast, the good thing is that those things happened THEN, and you learned from them. Had you known the video existed all along, or did you just recently discover it?

  • Thanks, recently discovered it, like a week and a half ago

  • goood stuff especially dave brubecks's take five didn't see it coming!

  • Haha...loved the Take Five, totally unexpected. By the way, Cambry playing Debussy!? I want more, please, please upload a video of you playing something by Debussy. Children's Corner, L'Isle Joyeuse, whatever you want, just please.

  • u seem disappointed when u said jazz in ur info on the vid,,,wuts wron g wit jazz, its some of best stuff to play cuz its totally ur own ideas and melodies... man its the greatest,,, get into it

  • it was definitely not disappointment, it was joy that I had a video of myself playing it, putting it in caps does not mean negative, it's emphasizing the positive.. as far as using your own ideas and melodies, you can compose in any genre to do that as I am right now in classical music

  • also, if I was really disappointed about jazz, why wouldn't I just edit it out of the video?

  • Holy Sh!t thats is impressive. Take 5 seemed a little rushed though :P But thats understandable at 12, lol.

  • Hey, whats the jazz piece at the end called? Who's it by too?

  • Dave Brubeck, "Take 5"

  • Crazy!!!

  • Incredible Talent! You ROCK!

  • > < i'm 16 and my fingers could never be as agile... sigh~

  • You'll never know that until you do enough repetitions in practice, as far as agility anyone can learn to have more of it

  • This looks as if it were around CHRISTMAS time. WOW what an entertaining son you are for your family. God Bless you.

  • 12 years old. Wow. I'm 15 and i can't play nearly as good as that. If you told me that the pieces are easier than they look/sound, then I'd be reassured but that's a far stretch from the truth, isn't it?

    Good video.

  • The pieces are way easier than they sound SX04, it's definitely the truth, don't get discouraged at all

  • ARE U KIDDING ME!!? at 12 thats awesome...hell at any age thats AMAZING. your amazing.

  • Thanks a lot EKPiano, guess I did what I could at the time haha

  • Ur the BEst there is!!!!1

  • Very nice compilation - I can't believe you already knew the Rachmaninoff at 12; I'm just barely getting through the fourth page right now (well... I'm rushing also). Excellent video~

  • Yeah GermanSeabass haha I didn't really "know" it though, I just played through it not realizing that I was playing it crazy

  • That's outstanding for 12!

  • What do you think of Thelonious Monk? I would LOVE to hear you do a rendition of "Blue Monk" AND " 'Round Midnight". Monk was a proponent of Classical music in the early stage of his career until he had to listen to the music that was in him and express IT.

  • Thelonious Munk was the man, me having a classical background will help with my compositions as well, hopefully I can get to that level of musicianship one day

  • Cool, you like Monk. I wish you would play some of his music, that'd be really great. He's easily one of my favorite Jazz composers.

  • Ohhhhh Nahh I am not SAYING that you are NOT at that level "playa" I am just saying to let it be KNOWN in that way of expressing YOUR own interpretations of whats in your CORE. You are already great.

  • I want a grand piano. :(

I think the Debussy could've used more pedal. Rachmaninoff, I find it ironical that I just played that and I'm around your age in that video.

    Overall, very nice :)

  • Hey cool, thanks man, you play this too? You should submit your video as a response

  • The internet is a dangerous place nowadays, that's really the only reason I don't upload my own music.

  • Yeah if you're a minor I can definitely understand that, maybe when you're older you can get your music up here, you still can take steps to protect yourself though, just don't give out your name, age, etc., all people want to hear is your music

  • Now to figure how to keep my messed-up recording of Chopin's Scherzo no. 2 under 10 mins when I played it over 10 mins, haha

  • I've loved all of your videos that you've posted so far, but this one take teh cake. Dave Brubeck at 12?! I'm Jealous.

  • It'd be cool to see you play some jazz now or ragtime or even blues. Do you do that kind of stuff?

  • Great playing! *****

And a really nice house and family, too.

  • It's always fun to look back and marvel at how people evolved through the years.

  • i wished i had videos of myself playing the piano at 12... then that'd mean i wouldn't suck so bad now, lol. awesome video though. i'm in the middle of considering to learn fur elise actually since i noticed every pianist + 1 seems to know it.

  • Hi Cambry,

Wow! You were AWESOME then! What happened to you! hahaha.... You're super awesome now.

    Your fan, Ben

  • You haven't changed much since then, with regards to appearance I mean heh.

  • My glasses are less nerdy looking these days hahaha other than that I just got a foot taller, that's pretty much it

  • You're god's given talent man!! wow great vid!! very talented and inspirational vid!!

  • Thanks a lot soulpiano!

  • first is : Debussy - Children's corner - Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum

  • Some people just got it, I guess. Damn you, evil piano-genius.

  • Incredible, Jonathan! Really fantastic - I'm blown away again! Thanks for letting us in on an intimate family moment.

    Your friend,

    Duke

  • Thanks Duke! I thought it was more comical than anything though haha seeing videos of yourself younger are so weird

  • whats that jazz song name. at the end of the video? after you play beethoven?

  • It's take five.

  • yeah, and nice digs! Love that roaring fireplace while you takin5~

    thanks for posting!

  • Man, thats awesome! You were so damn good at that age! Even if there were mistakes, that really is incredible!

  • Thanks a lot for checking it out!
