  • @philbailey2311 Yes, they were brilliant. I had the fortune that they were a local band when I was young and saw them perform this many times live. I always thought it was a shame that they did the "Glam rock" thing, but bills needed paying and the record industry knew how turn a buck.

  • Never heard this before. I repeat, weren't they good?

  • To all those saying the original is better: 1) Originals are normally better 2) It's a hell of an original 3) Can you think of many people that could even attempt to cover a monster like this, let alone do so well?

  • @HengistTheGreat You are right there! It is impossible to beat the original of this, but this one is as good as anyone can produce it. The best cover of this "Monster", hands down. Yet another proof how brilliant Slade were

  • nobody can out play the original song by any performer but this is close very close

  • @MrKingkong1955 Maybe with this song Slade did not outperform the original, but with all the others, Slade outperformed the original by a street, including the 2 Beatles covers they did, Zappa, Marvin Gay, Neil Innes, Alvin Lea, Steppenwolf, Janis Joplin, Max Trooper, Amboy Dukes, Idle Race etc..

  • @carlphone yes you are right they could out play any of these mentioned because noddy has the best pop rock voice of all time by milesssssssssss

  • @carlphone completely delusional oh yes carlfluck

  • Best cover ever of this epic song!

  • Great cover, almost as good as the original. Might be the only cover where they did not outperform the original.

  • this is really very good, espeacially when you remember that these lads were glam rockers,

never heared tis before, , thanks for putting it up,

  • @marcusbewley1 They were the most diverse rockband that played an unequal amount of styles, with truly brilliant tunes, their "glam' image is just misleading.

  • It aint got nothin on the Moody Blues, but its a very respectable cover

  • @cripescate Nothing??? Well I would say it has a lot, but that s a matter of taste, maybe the only time Slade did not better the original, it is still almost equal, probably the best cover of this song IMHO.

  • I never knew they did this one, it's nice

  • Don't think it was TOTP's, more Radio 1's 'In Session Tonight' programme. It was probably as Ambrose Slade and ain't Dave Hill's backing vocals beautiful. In all, a perfect showcase for Jim's violin playing.

  • First time ever I heard this song by Slade!?

Of course it can never be as beautiful as the original by the Moody Blues, but it's nice:))

  • Thanks for the comments.

  • @colemanm1 I think cover versions should always have a different taste to the original, or we may as all listen to the seventies K-Tel albums that's if your as old as I.
