Harry Truman admired Wilson, but said his problem was that he thought he was smarter than everyone else. He probably was, but that doesn't mean he was wise. I'm in favor of substance over style. Franklin Roosevelt had a lot of style. Nixon, the man who said "when the president does it, it makes it legal;" McKInley who fought a trumped up war against Spain and betrayed the Philippines; You know what I think about the appalling Wilson; Lincoln, the dictator with 600,000 dead; T.R. did some good things but was a 33rd Degree Mason and probably insane. My favorites are Washington, J.Q. Adams, Cleveland, Harding, Coolidge, Ike and JFK.
That was a terrible event and it should not have happened, but I have learned to look past that and just view that aspect of his character as being a man of his times. I am not trying to justify him, I am just saying he felt what most Americans at that time felt. It was still wrong though.

History shows us that Pres. Wilson strongly enforced segregation at the government and military levels. He left the South to enforce her 'Jim Crow' laws. He had a veiwing of the openly racist movie "Birth Of a Nation" and gave it complimented its supposed racist truths. Thus... I'd say he was a racist!

How can you admire a president who spent more money we did not have than any previous administrations combined? That is wild irresponsibility, not conservative or even moderate! The government should only exist to protect the rights of each individual and to protect our shores from foreign invasion. Bush let our borders stand open and made us completely defenseless against terror on 9/11; how is that admirable? Morally corrupt? How about the Congress?

I'm in favor of substance over style. Franklin Roosevelt had a lot of style. Nixon, the man who said "when the president does it, it makes it legal;" McKInley who fought a trumped up war against Spain and betrayed the Philippines; You know what I think about the appalling Wilson; Lincoln, the dictator with 600,000 dead; T.R. did some good things but was a 33rd Degree Mason and probably insane. My favorites are Washington, J.Q. Adams, Cleveland, Harding, Coolidge, Ike and JFK.

That was a terrible event and it should not have happened, but I have learned to look past that and just view that aspect of his character as being a man of his times. I am not trying to justify him, I am just saying he felt what most Americans at that time felt. It was still wrong though.

Any historian will tell you WW II happened because of how WW I ended. They will also tell you that Wilson;s whole hope of setting up the league of nations was to prevent such a war from happening again. His segregation is a matter of PUBLIC RECORD; the negroes felt betrayed by him, as this was the first Democrat they whole-heartedly supported against a Republican. There were many protesters of world war one similar to the Iraq war, but he suspended free speech and made it illegal to speak out. Michael Moore would have been silenced under Woodrow Wilson. George Bush never even thought of doing something so terrible. Hell it probably would have done him some good. And yes, Sinatra is the pride of New Jersey.

@WillbotProductions It is a basic premise of history that one cannot hold a person from the past to standards of today. During his era, the Klan was a gigantic, active organization. I know that it was quite active in northern Ohio. The fact is that most white Americans were racist in the early 20th century, though few realized it. That is why true civil rights did not really enter the spotlight until after World War II.

again schools are unaffected by the income tax. interesting how you mentioned 1861. that tax was an emergency wartime tax, which was later rescinded. the income tax became permanent under Wilson. anyway I'm aware of the 16th amendment, rather than waste my breath just do a search of unconstitutionality of income tax.

I admit that the government does not directly give money to schools but they do give it to the states for them to use it on the schools called a categorical grant 3% of the gov tax go to education & for u to call it unconstitutional would to say our whole government, what the framers set up is unconstitutional. Its a big thing to make an amendment and they made the tax an amendment & the courts at anytime could have declared unconstitutional & they didn't why because it's not unconstitutional.

he was actually not that good a president, he ran on a peace platform in 1916, and barley beat Charles Evans Hughes and then was in the war just a few months after his election. During his later years he spent all his time in Paris negotiating the treaty of Versailles for about 2 years while the VP Mr. Marshall ran things at home.

Ok, the Income Tax was Taft's idea, and it was only furthered by Wilson. And he wasn't worse than Bush. He never tortured anyone, he never caused a recession, and our place in WW1 was a hell of a lot more justifiable than Iraq.

Woodrow Wilson was a racialist bigot and is chiefly responsible for the hagging of black men in this country from 1913 through 1933...commonly known as the lyching period....He backed up and advocated for the propaganda film " The Birth of a Nation...He even had special showing in the White House. Presenting it to His Presidental Cabinet as a true historical fact and guideline on "how to deal with the Negro Problem."

Woodrow Wilson was America's Adolf Hittler and for it the worse prsident we had every had. President Bush can not compair. As it relates to African American, he's job was to act FOR THE PEOPLE....NOT AGAINST THE PEOPLE.

He was many things, but not an abolitionist. He was nowhere to be found during John Brown's War, nor would he have supported them, and he favoured compromise with the South before the war

No, not all of them were racist: Ulysses S. Grant was a champion of the black and red man; Warren Harding spoke out for the negro ( some say he was part black himself ); Harry Truman integrated the Armed Forces; Dwight Eisenhower sent troops to Arkansas to enforce integration. Some were ardent racists: Andrew Jackson; Andrew Johnson; Woodrow Wilson.
