Idiot? No, that wasn't idiocy, but I understand why did you think that way. Battle Garegga has a not-so-obvious "rank system. It works this way: if you lose a live, the game will become much easier. Therefore, it's sometimes wise to commit suicide in order to keep the last stages "playable".

and, there is one more very good reason why you want to suicide. That is to get extra bombs.

when you die, you get extra bombs (or special weapons, whatever you want to call it), and there are many objects that can only be destroyed by bombs, and usually destroying those objects give you a lot of points.

so the experts play in the following pattern;

1. Suicide (Reduce game difficulty & Get bombs)

2. Use bombs to earn points

3. Get extra life (every 1 million points)

4. Repeat 1-3
