GGGGrandfather was Pvt. F.M. Gore, rode with the 4th TN Cavalry, Co. D. Several trips through Kentucky with Gen. John Hunt Morgan. Unfortunately no further information on his wartime experiences
Very stirring! My GGGrandfather was Emanuel Houston Mitchell. Private, 3rd Kentucky Cavlary. Gen. John Hunt Morgan's command. POW in Camp Chase Ohio and Camp Douglass Illinois. Captured during one of many raids into Ohio.
@eringobragh915 My collateral ancestor, a 2d great grand uncle, grandfather's maternal side, did not make it out alive. Died at Camp Douglas 28 JUN 1865. He was 18 years old. He had served with the 42d Tenn. Inf and the 55th Ala Volunteers. He had been elected Sergeant by his men in 1864. He was present for duty in 1865. Don't know yet how he was captured or if he was offered the Oath of Allegiance to sign.
@joecmoore2 God bless you & to the memory of your great great grandfather Emanuel Houston Mitchell. Do you consider joining the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
My great great grandfather as well as his brothers were with the 37th Mississippi Infantry. They were captured and sent to Camp Douglas as well as your ancestor. One of them, my great great uncle William Jackson Tims died in the cruel condition of the stockade. There is still a small shard of that Chicago winter of 1865 in our blood.
@joecmoore2 God Bless the Kentuckians....Orphans one and all! My GGGrandfather was John James Price. Corporal of Co. L, 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. He, His Brother and future Brother in Law were all recruited by Basil Duke on Aug 9th of '62. Captured in late '64 and held until May of '65 in Camp Morton, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mosbyprolonged the war in the Shenadoah Valley for at least a year, A master at guerrilla and raider warfare. Roadside marker close to winchester where he hung a few of Custers men in retaliation,
@akronjohn1 I think what made Mosby so good was the fact that he never had too many men. By keeping his numbers low, he made it possible to move alot "lighter" then other Raiders.
im 15 and im stuck with a federal unit. when i hit 16, get a musket, im joining a confederate infantry unit :) im a confederate at heart haha :D Deo Vindice great video.
Amazing . Had no idea all that stuff was IDed as Stuart's. Where is all this located? What is the inscription you show on the amazing saddle? Can't quite make it out.
The sidebar over on the right of this page tells you where everything is.
The inscription on Stuart's saddle says "J.E.B. STUART U.S.A." The USA stands for United States Army, so this was the same saddle Stuart used before the Civil War when he was in the US Army serving in Kansas. A very well-traveled saddle.
Great video-- Stuart's and Morgan's frock coats and uniforms look to be in immaculate condition! Thanks for including the key so that everything can be identified.
love it! We were re enactors when I was a teen and I REALLY miss it! This brings back some great memories. I can almost smell the fires, tents, and lanterns. Ahhhh, good times....good times....
I've heard that same story from former reenactors all the time. It make's me think of what my commander has said several times (I'm in the 16th GA Co.G). "You keep saying you'll return but if many wait too long there will be nothing to return to!"
This song was really great and it is good to no that there are good pople who can appreciate the south i'm 12 years old and I am a well educated southerner
gg grandfather was one of john mosby's raiders-house was a confederate hospital at the battle of fredricksburg-grandmother's 90 year old sister still lives there
My great grandfather was William F. Chapman. He and his brother Sam were Mosby Rangers. The Mosby cannon is in Oklahoma City. We visited when my kids were little and broke the rules to pose with the cannon. The armorer in charge nearly caught us behind the cordon, but I felt entitled.
I was there at the Museum of the Confederacy, in Richmond. The only thing between me and these artifacts of JEB's was a pane of glass! Awesome! to have been that close to the personal belongings to one of the most favorite Cavalry Generals, of the war. Go to the Museum, see all of this history of the Ole South. It will be well worth it!
Ft Monroe will be finially turn back over to the state of Virginia, I believe in 2011. Wouldn't it be a cool thing if a confederate re-enactment unit march in as the US Army leaves in their grand ceremony?
i need the tab and the music!

@eringobragh915 Yep, definitely bobby. This is a common mistake though, especially for people who get most of their music from file sharing systems.

Tis Old Stonewall the rebel who leans on his sword3
And while we are mounting praise low to the Lord
Now each cavalier who loves Honor and Right
Let him follow the feather of Stuart tonight.
Come tighten your girth and slacken your rein
Come buckle your blanket and holster again
Try the click of your trigger and balance your blade
For he must ride sure who goes riding a raid!

That is so cool. I portray an unnamed trooper of the Mosby's Raiders here in New York. (Unnamed as of November 1,2008.)

I'm still trying to find the right trooper to portray. So for now it's Trooper Goeltz (my name, and not period for this timeline).
