  • Real Electric car at Lionev website. 456 miles max tested range. Cost about $30-40K.

  • Lied to? What have you been lie to about?

The EV1 was a financial nightmare. No one wanted the car... and for good reason. I don't care if "thousands" of people signed up to buy one. That's nothing. Toyota sells 50,000 Camrys EVERY MONTH. The EV1 sold just over a thousand in the years it was available.

The facts are the car was very small, had a limited range, could only seat two, and was expensive. It never would have made money.

  • Did they mention in the movie the price of one of those EV-1's?

  • I took this from an article on wikipedia:

The price for the car used to compute lease payments was US$33,995 to US$43,995.

  • That said, GM isn't entirely evil.

They do plan to eventually roll out the Chevy Volt.

Which is an electric car with a backup electric generator.

  • GM will never roll out the Volt.

  • The movie is also available on DVD now, I think everyone should see it. It's not the end of the story for electric cars, though. Startup companies like Tesla and Phoenix are working to bring new electric cars to production -- the Tesla Roadster is really impressive, it blows away the old EV1. It's too bad the big car companies still are not getting on board, they could make this happen much quicker.

  • Oh wow! That is one SEXY FUCKING CAR.. it's a bit expensive, though, but I'm really glad to see that there's still progress being made.. and a lot of it, apparently.

  • Yeah, there's quite a few good options on the way.

Prices don't include a $6000 tax credit already on the books.

As far as affordable goes, there's the Javlon.
