"This Woman's Work " is a disapointing song on a half disapointing album -"The Sensual World - (That album has still great tracks : the title track , the Trio Bulgarka songs, The Fog - the others songs are weaker music with influence of "Experiment IV " track )

But when I listen to kate's version touches my soul but also gets me thinking because the way she sings it makes me listen to the lyrics more. Kate's is wonderful and so is Maxwell's. Both are equally amazing to me. Though they are singing the same words, the way mazwell sings his rendition of the song makes me think and feel different things than kate's version while listening. Two completely different and postive reactions to the same song sung in different styles.
I've heard the Maxwell version but it doesn't even come close to Kate Bush. She makes the song haunting, sad and beautiful all at the same time. The chorus is sublime & i loved they way they used the song in Extra's encapculated the moment perfectly. I don't hate the Maxwell version but no point listening to it when Kate sings it so much better. @jazzinnature081 I think he was being reminded of everything he was about to loose, In the end he didn't loose her, but like this song, the video also reminds us to not take anyone for granted and don't say "I should, coulda or would have done this with....." It evokes emotions because we have all had a moment similar to the feeling of this song.

Kate's is wonderful and so is Maxwell's. Both are equally amazing to me. Though they are singing the same words, the way mazwell sings his rendition of the song makes me think and feel different things than kate's version while listening. Two completely different and postive reactions to the same song sung in different styles.

I've heard the Maxwell version but it doesn't even come close to Kate Bush. She makes the song haunting, sad and beautiful all at the same time. The chorus is sublime & i loved they way they used the song in Extra's encapculated the moment perfectly. I don't hate the Maxwell version but no point listening to it when Kate sings it so much better. Saying that (& i know lots of you will disagree) but i really liked the cover placebo did of Running Up That Hill very very good.

I see a lot of comments about comparing covers to the original song. I think it's all groovy. To each their own.
Covers are great because they make a song accessible to more people! A certain artist does it in a certain style and bam! More listeners!
Kate Bush is wonderful and deserves all the credit she can get, but really...it's not about her. It's about the idea. It's about beauty and truth surviving throughout generations.

@noodlenate covers must only be done by artists with actual talent. this does not include this maxwell guy who has never been heard of or had a hit song outside of the states, cant write or produce or direct . covers should only be done when the song can be done with the artists own personality coming through, so no boy bands for sure. or girl bands for that matter. only people like bowie, people with real talent can do cover versions.

Maxwell did an absolutely AMAZING job on the song, but as the original artist SHE gets ALL the respect in the world. She is telling the story when singing, Maxwell just flat out brought the rain while singing. In a sense the songs are totally different.

She has come to be a muse and a source of inspiration for Artists at the level of Prince, David Gilmour and Peter Gabriel, which all of them have gladly written and recorded songs with her. Get on your boots you young jam and get her vinyls, they might be available on cd's too, but nothing like a real live media to make you feel the real sound feeling to it.

There's not a single doubt about it: Kate Bush is a Masterpiece herself, a unique voice, amazing singer, state-of-art song writer that has never been outdated by anyone who ever sung any of her pearls. She is way much more than Maxwell ( a ok singer) would ever dream of being. Kate Bush have had number ones world wide, not only in UK. More than that her FULL albuns were number ones, not just a one hit wonder.

I agree that Kate Bush is very talented, but her talent is not lessened because others enjoy Maxwell's version of her song. Myself included. Maxwell is more than a "one hit wonder" he is also recognized world-wide in his talents and achievements musically. AND because of his version, he created many new fans for Kate.

They'll think she's ripping off Maxwell. He should have never did Kate's song. Why the producers of that Love and Basketball movie just didn't use Kate's original is beyond me.

I think people who's never heard of kate because sadly she never got the backing of major labels think maxwell originated this song. though he popularized it among R&B and Pop music listeners which is great because these type of listeners will somehow soon enough know this is a Kate Bush masterpiece. We just need to correct people that it's a Kate Bush original but Maxwell introduced it to a new audience.

I must say that i truly love kates version better. For one the video and the way she sings it made me understand what the song is saying. know maxwell's version is excellent if it was'nt for him this song would'nt have gotten the attention it did.for real his version was what i fell in love with first,for i naver knew anyone named kate bush ontil maxwell sang her song. But here in Europe Kate Bush is far more famous, I didnt even know about the Maxwells version before I came online.
Kate Bush have been populare here since the 70s and I was only 8 years old when I first heard and saw this video.
In the end its a matter of taste, I just happends to prefer Kate Bush version. I respect if others prefer Maxwells version :)

Respect to Kate Bush for writing such an amazing song, but honestly Maxwell perfected it. No disrespect to Kate, but there's no way you can honestly say Maxwell didn't sing it a lot better. No one could sing it better than him though.

Feel for you man but if it wasn't right then nothing worse than crushing her soul (or yours) day by day pretending. This song is so poignant but inpires you to be with the right person and to live life to the full (whatever that means for you).
