IRIAF sucks! IRIAF only had only model fighter aircraft like F-14A Tomcat, Mig-29A Fulcrum, Mirage F-1, F-7M Airguard, F-5E/F Tiger II, Seaqeh, & Azarakhsh. Also their Ground/Attack Aircraft are old & useless like F-4D/E Phantom II, Su-24MK Fencer, & Su-25K Frogfoot. Too bad IRIAF lost their A-50 AWACS during Air parade in September 2009. IRIAF are weak air force. Too bad Russian won't let China sell J-10 to Iran because J-10 used the Russian Saturn AL-31 which no Middle Eastern to had it.

As much fun as it is to malign Iran's military it is important to remember that it has demonstrated significant capability in the past. While they would never win a conventional war with the United States they could do substantial damage, especially now that the Russians are starting to provide them with higher quality equipment. Plus their military strength is primarily aimed at dominating their region and in this they have been quite successful. Only Israel can still truly challenge them.

The MiG-29 is about 1:15 in aerial combat. The USAF flies 2,216 F-16s, 705 F-15s, 57 F-117s, around 700 A-10s and over 100 F-22s, while the USN and USMC deploy over 1,160 F/A-18s, and around 125 EA-6Bs. With 5,000 tactical aircraft, numbers are in our favor.

Worked just fine on Iraqi planes in 1991. Unlike those F4s we used in Vietnam that got shot down EVERY DAY!F14A's (which are what the Iranians use)were phased out for better planes in early 1980's. Its not designed t hit missiles, see a problem. Plus it's expensive and at extreme range it tends to.....miss. I remember the Ufa test where it hit the first drone and then missed the second and then the third missile wen strait up in the air for 30 seconds and then exploded. The Russian Brass looked pissed.
