It's true. I've had these techniques done to me and if you don't flip "on purpose" then I will either get my neck snapped, arm broken, or knee(s) destroyed. I think I'll take my chances with the flip.
@xubermanx Just to reiterate on what dbs said. The flip is not the natural way the body moves, it is a move designed to prevent injury. It's better to land on your back than your head.

I'll confirm that he's not losing balance on purpose, and flipping is far safer than 'standing your ground' :)
