You can install Mac OSX on allot of netbooks with the hackintosh stick available on ebay, if you search ebay for Hackintosh its one of the top items with the picture of a snow leopard, i did it on my dell mini 10v and its brilliant!
hey man how ya going? thanks for the great tutorial. i have one problem though.
when i get to the setup after booting from an external hard drive, i cant see my laptops hard drive. im running windows 7 with my hard drive split into 2 partitions (140gb NTFS and 20gb FAT32) do i need to format my hard drive and get rid of windows completely? or make it a single partition?
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. thankyou in advance.
Great Video. The echo is somewhat annoying, but I just blocked it out after a while. Your video resolution is great. How did you record the video? What camera did you use?
I used a Canon XHA1 HD Video Camera. I was new to videos at the time and was commenting as I was going. I thought my video editor had muted the original sound, but I was a n00bi3 and this is what it was. I had fun performing the hack, now onto something else.
I brought a mini 10v after doing some research, works like a charm. As for updates, i found that on my 10v they slowed the system down. I am typing this on my 10v now !
You need to go down to A04. Run netbookinstaller 8.2 after you do a restore of the OS X image CD to the USB using disk utilities. All I needed was one USB. - Snow Leopard
I sold the unit, but I believe that A06 was the BIOS version I had. Yes you do need two because the smaller one holds the Boot Loader. Once you boot to that then you select the drive (81) to install the OS from. You could use just one USB flash drive, but then you will need the external USB CD/DVD drive to install the OS from the DVD (Retail Version 10.5.1 or later only)
1 will do the job if u have a mac or a external drive. 2 if u only have a pc. and u need bios a04 for a more reliable install, a06 will work but not recommended
I managed to install 10.5.8 on my Mini 10v, but I can't get the sound to work after sleep. Audio works, but shuts off completely after it goes to sleep. Is yours working properly & which option did you use? Thanks.
In order to get the sound to work after sleep, you must disable the USB Legacy in the System BIOS. Then it will work after sleep, but it may crackle a bit. If the USB Legacy Disabled, try again. If sound doesn't work after sleep, just re-apple the DellEFI, restart and test again. With the USB Legacy disabled, you should have sound after sleep.
It may be possible by cracking or creating a 3rd party bootloader; however, it will not work with Bootcamp. You may wish to try some great programs like VMware Fusion or Parallels to run other OSes concurrently with Mac OS X.
If you don't have an 8gb USB flash drive, do you know if you can use a SD card instead and put that into the built-in card reader to do the OS X install?
The BIOS of the Mini's will allow you to boot from External USB Hard Disks, CD/DVD ROM Drives and USB Flash/Thumb Drives. You just adjust the BIOS settings to boot from an external device before trying to boot from the internal hard drive. At the time of this writing the built-in media reader is NOT Bootable.
No need to touch the dial. I did a voice over thinking that would eliminate the original commentary while I was performing the hack, but I have to work on my editing skills. Thanks for the complement.
The WiFi card in the 10v I Hacked was an N. The DellEFI 1.1 available online worked great, so did the sound. Thanks for the kudos on the video, but I am a n00b when it comes to editing. was hoping the sound recorded while performing the demo would be erased by my voice-over--NOT!!! Oh, well, next time.
6 - It just requires learning about some software. Quite simply all you need is boot132 and mac OSX retail. Once you have those you boot to the boot 132 then swap the disks and press enter. Then it is a simple installation.
You need an Intel processor that supports SSE3 (run CPUZ to find out if you have this)
Unfortunately you will need to hack the bootloader to dual boot, otherwise you will only be able to boot into XP/Vista/7/Linux
About 5, once you've done it once it's much easier the 2nd time. IMO I prefer doing it with DVD's as opose to USB sticks but unless you have an external drive you pretty much have no other option that to use USB sticks.
9, there are often kexts that you will need to patch, a kext is the windows equivalent of Drivers, but because OSX is designed for specific hardware you have hack the OS to use them
I had previously hacked the mini 9, so I had some experience under my belt. It is a bit easier with the CD/DVD method rather than the Flash/Thumb drives; however, that said, I prefer the Flash drives for portability and desk space. I thought the 10v was probably a 5 in difficulty only because it is tricky with the BIOS and bootloader. Once you understand that you have to apply and re-apply the DellEFI every time you update, it is relatively simple. Good luck.
well when i do it it sais something like "patented 1780 0280 88923 89093 9990 (those numbers dont mean anything just an example) ethernet error check cable" can you help?
ok so what happens is: I turn on my computer go to boot options, click on boot from cd\dvd drive press enter, it will take me to a screen that has the error and it also sais exiting media center. It then boots right into windows XP
Are you using an external USB CD/DVD drive? If so, then make certain that you "ENABLE" USB Legacy support in the BIOS. This may be why you are booting right into Windows. Let me know and I will attempt to assist you further.
hey could you just let me know where you got the bootloader / efi / and where you got the iso for osx. I have the kalyway 10.5.2 and I wanna know if that will work or not. thanks

Ow sorry... thought you were talking about legal/illegal.

You can say folks have to buy the retail version, but that's still not going to work for Apple, since they make no profits off selling their OS.
If you don't want trouble, just tell folks just to test this.
Not that that makes a difference, but saying that you can't get it done without a retail version is just a blatant lie.
