  • The comment by gmanjam hit it right on the nose about Ruffin's performance on this record and with Smokey's OK ,he had to be amazed as well..

  • I used to love to dance to this song . . .

  • Listen to the Live version... This is good, but Mr. Ruffin and The Temps live is Outstanding

  • you'll lose a precious love"

    great

  • I wanna make love to David when I hear this song

  • @darrenmother Me too, and I'm a heterosexual male.

  • @KangolQ LMAO You a fool for that one!

  • Always thought this was Eddie.

  • My favorite was Eddie..just sayin'.....

  • "These arms of mine can't let you go, the touch of my HAND should let you know," maaan I had fits over the Temptations when I was a little girl. Some real romantic lyrics that elicited true emotions (sigh) I just don't know what to say... except maybe that this style and presentation has never been replicated and most likely never will be in this or any forthcoming era.

  • THE MIGHTY TEMPTATIONS!!!

  • @jamar22100

    No disrespect, but I bought this album brand new,along with anything The Temptations put out back then,but I'm gonna have to dis-agree on Levi & David. I hear what you say about Their style, but David was head and shoulders above Mr.Stubbs. I appreciate young people like yourself even listening,and being able to defrinciate yhe two singers style...that was 41 years ago,but you have a good ear and Taste....PEACE2U. StonieDogStl.... ;-}

  • This why i say vocal wise David Ruffin is the best male singer i have ever herd. He can sing anything he's not limited to the ruff sound. Same thing with Levi Stubs.

  • @jamar22100 I agree, Ruffin had a tone that NO OTHER male singer had.

  • Oh how I loved Melvin, he my man Q_Q I would never destroy our precious love

  • This song should have been a hit on its own back in the day! We loved dancin' to it, as well as listening.

  • SLAMZ A BEER

  • Grab your honey and hit the dance floor. Great dance song.

  • If only you could have been there in 1967, atlantic city steel pier, the originals if only you could have been there.....

  • OMG this song is one of the best songs ever written by Smokey, and the Temptations put the hurts on it big time. My fav, and Melvin Franklin gets the bass down to a science. Yeah, oh yeah, sing it to me always. "If you move, you'll lose a precious love, the touch of my hand should let you know."

  • Who's the one with the deep voice??!!! Oh baby!!!

  • DAVID! DAVID !

  • like he said in the movie,"We are the voices, and of course they want the voices". You Damn Right Mr. Ruffin, You DAmn Right !!!!!!!! StonieDogStl.

  • This song shows that ( before he probably started smoking too much ) David had as rich and expressive a falsetto as Eddie

  • Dam, I was already feeling lonely. Guess I'll have another bud

  • man o man!! now thats singin!

  • David had the facility to continue singing fantastically even near the end of his life. When he and Eddie recorded as a duo for RCA, he was still amazing. The passion was there, even years after he was no longer with the Tempts, and no longer on the reunion tour...HE-JUST-HAD-IT!!! We are all the less for not having such a talent with us anymore...I am not saying anyone else did not have gifts that were just as amazing, this is not a comparison. I am only discussing David right now!!

  • I'm with you hollidayevery. To me the Temps were never really the Temps again without David. This is no slight on Dennis who is an amazing singer as you probably agree...but David's tenure with the Temps were their GOLDEN YEARS

  • @sonwamac I do have to agree with you...I loved this and the Dennis Edwards years version of the Tempts, but along with the more romantic songs, and the less funkafied songs, along with David AND Eddie on leads...WOW!!! Perfection!! Once again, the word synergy comes to mine...Just like the Supremes were never the same after Florence; the Tempts were never quite as cohesive without David! And definitely floundered after Eddie left!

  • The best record ever harmony and vocally written by Smokey

  • B-side on Ain't Too Proud To Beg...mind blowing tune

  • The best Temptation song!

  • David's first recording with the Temptations

  • Can't ever be beat...... Best group of all times..

  • Although, as a young girl, Eddie was my fave Temp (loved Paul's dance moves best ;) Over the years, I began to appreciate the range and versatilaty in David's voice more, which is why, from the moment I heard it THIS song remains my absolute favorite of all of the Temps songs. I would certainly be remiss if I didn't mention the AMAZINGLY, incredibly, profound lyrics written by the greatest songwriter to ever put pen to paper, Smokey Robinson!! Listen and Savor EVERY note!! Bravo!!!

  • I would love to hear an accapella version of this

  • David Ruffin is the greatest singer ever! Period.

    Forever love David.

  • this is so incredible david is the master on this vocal his range is truly one of a kind he floats one verse then growls on the next

  • Absolutely beautiful music. More proof that the art of great radio-friendly song writing is essentially dead since not a single piece of music that's being played on pop radio stations today will be remembered in 4-6 months let alone 46 years.

  • I luv David's vocals on this song. He can go hard or go satin smooth. I luv the classic temps they could do it all.

  • i love this song!

  • THE TEMPATAION GOING HARD!!!!!!!!

  • Remember the day? This is the jam from the past great tune!!

  • Folks, let's get REAL.....there is NOBODY BUT DAVID RUFFIN who has the MAGIC

in his voice to carry this off! Why anyone is SUPRISED this is Ruffin, is WAY PAST ME.....he is simply as good as it gets! THANK GOD FOR DAVID RUFFIN!!!!!

  • Smoother than silk.......

  • bad ass song. " don't destroy i'll precious love" . you go melvin!

  • did you know that Ruffin and Kendricks recorded a duet album for RCA after they both left the Tempts? That's in addition to the live album they did with Hall and Oates.

  • From the hell of the plantation to the courage and nobility of the church choir. And then to the factories of Detroit. And then to the greatness of the Motown studio.....How music came about that brought joy to the world.

  • Wow...Beautiful. David, awesome talent. I didn't who was leading until I read the comments.

  • The guy has so many different kinds of voices. It's crazy!!!!!!

  • David really sang on this one. My friend and I used to have fits over the Temptations. I loved it then as a jr high girl and it still sounds good today. A deep love song I really didn't understand but I liked the boys and they liked me. Song still gives me chills.

  • Melvin, you go with that rumbling Bass Voice, May you rest in peace.... Much Love...

  • the touch of my hand...BABY....should let you know.....sang brothers, sang it!!

  • They sang better than all right. They were the masters!

  • One of David's BEST lead vocals ever...so classy and understated...It took me quite a while for me to figure who the lead voice was, and when it came to me that it was David, I was blown away!

  • I can't agree more!

  • @hollidayevery Same here I asked my father who was the lead singer on this one because I wasn't sure it was David, but when I found out I was blown away also, I hoped it was Eddie LOL because he hits those low notes, but after I found out I was really amazed

  • @hollidayevery Me too I asked my father and I really wanted it to be Eddie and thought it was when he hit that Hi note "and if you leeeeve heeeeeveave you'll lose a precious love" I was blown away when I found out too and became a Big David Ruffin fan along with Eddie...

  • man,... this is truly classic stuff!!!

the very first time that i heard this song, i thought it was Eddie Kendricks doing the lead vocals. i was later told by a friend that it was David Ruffin, and i was totally blown away!

the skill and range of his vocals that he displayed on this record were simply amazing. it's one of those rare performances that happens maybe once in a singer's lifetime, and he delivers it so effortlessly.

    purely magical!

  • So, so true!

  • @gmanjam ...Amen, I totally agree...always knew it was David but Eddie was my favorite back then. Over the years, I began to appreciate the range and versatilaty in David's voice more, which is why, from the moment I heard it THIS song remains my absolute favorite of all of the Temps songs. I would certainly be remiss if I didn't mention the AMAZINGLY, incredibly, profound lyrics written by the greatest songwriter to ever put pen to paper, Smokey Robinson!! Just listen and savor every note!!!

  • @gmanjam Truer words have never been spoken.

  • David really shows his singing talents on this tune.

  • Yeah, also this song has some great background vocals.
