  • @HKSbot true what you say..atheism is for idiots

  • You (the poster) seem to be under the mistaken impression that the smart is cramped. I recently compared the smarts interior dimensions to that of the Toyota Tundra (big pickup), and found that head and leg room were almost identical. When driving one, you have to remind yourself what a small car it is, because it doesn't "feel" small when you're driving it. Think about it, it's ALL crew cabin, LOL. I've had mine 3 years and LOVE it.

    P.S. 92MPH, electronically limited. I've reached it.

  • @smart451cab you are right...I have since been inside the smart car and I do like them. Very large inside. I love them too :-)

  • When you finally catch up with the smart, at 1:14 and get a side view of the car ... does the driver look cramped to you? Nope, I didn't thinks so.

He's got a set of aftermarket wheels on his car. Probably other mods too. A lot of smart owners aren't just happy with their cars, they're enthusiasts.

Did you do this video on a bike??

  • Maybe it's a smart hayabusa like the mini hayabusa

  • Did you use your signal once in this hole video?

  • The driver becomes the car in an accident sad but true. God bless u shock and may god be your co-pilot.

  • U Dont drive the car, u wear it, thts hilarious

  • What a boring video, I have no clue why you upload this kind of crap here.. just to waste my time.

  • @BreakDaSilence thanks for your non boring comment he he

  • Wait a minute, that's not a US spec smart! That's the older european version (450), must be grey market...

  • The way I see it, the smart car helps separate girly men from real men because real men drive real cars. Also that thing is the car version of what a scooter would be!

  • shockofgod, thanks for showing this smart easily handling the freeway. Tops at 92 MPH before the computer cuts power. I've had mine for 18 months and traveled 22,000+ miles. It averages 35 MPG city/highway. Long road trips on the highway typically run 40 MPG. A few times its come close to 50 MPG. Pretty reasonable for an all gas NON HYBRID vehicle. Cheers.

  • i think they named it "smart" 'cause its the antithesis of what it truly is. If they ran over a shoe on the freeway, i wouldnt be surprised if it flipped.

  • hey apollos, if that is what you are looking for to be surprised. You never will be. This car handles well being just 1800 lbs. Very nimble. If you want to donate a shoe, I'll gladly run it over for ya though.

  • HEY LOOK A SMART CAR xd

  • They had a picture showing a smart car that was completely crushed by a truck, and underneath it, it said "Not so smart anymore".

  • crazypete3... the picture you are referring to, seen on sites like hubgarage and digg is NOT a smart. Looking forensically at the photo, clearly the wheel is a 5 lug, all smarts have a 3 lug bolt pattern. You also see all crushed metal, where is the broken plastic. The exterior skin of all smarts is plastic and would be easily identified. It is widely believed that its a Ford Escape. At least it can be confirmed that the wheels are the same as on an Escape. Also the driver was reported ok.

  • They cost like $16k and only get about 36 mpg. You could buy a nice motorcycle for that, carry just as many people and have a lot more fun.

Have you ever looked at the faces of the people driving these things? They do not look happy! They always have this martyred look on their faces...especially when they see someone riding a nice SV. Maybe it's envy that I see!

  • thanks for sharing your observation geesisfreak. You are invited to join us at a meet any time. Maybe you live in a grouchy town. BTW, traded a Ram Quadcab that got 12 MPG for my smart. I'm still the same person, but now I have more money in the bank. My insurance went down, my fuel bill went down and my per mile maintenance cost is dramatically less. Would I buy another truck, sure, if I needed one. But I don't. I'm not asking anyone else to like it. Road my last motorcycle in '84.

  • No worries! Ride your ride. There are a lot of cars out there now a days that get over 35 mpg. Most can fit more than the two people and an overnight bag that this car can. This car just is not practicle for most people. It would probably be a good commuter vehicle but that is about it. For me with a wife, five kids, two dogs & two guinea pigs I would have to make 7 trips to get everything there at one time. Have a Ford Excursion for that reason. Maybe when I am old I will get one of these. :)

  • @geesisfreak you hit the proverbial nail on the head. Not that it is impractical for most though, but it is for you. MOST statistically travel solo. The vast majority of driving is the commute to and from work. I see your point given the size of your family. The smart is NOT my primary car, it is the car I drive to and from work though. I have a car that seats 5 and can handle about 3 times the luggage. By the way, The smart has the room in its cargo to handle 3 generously sized suit cases.

  • kewl

  • hehe, chemtrails :D

  • the guys is correct below. The crumple zone is your head. In a high speed impact the car isn't too bad , but you are dead. bad news. Kinda look cool. Much rather have a bike :D

  • @BoracayOcean69 Not true, check the NCAP rating- the Smart actually has a top rating for head protection. It's just your torso and legs that get mangled :)

  • check again. you get to keep your legs, feet, hips, knees... The "ride down" in an accident does fully use the vehicles airbags and occupant restraints as designed. the IIHS rated the Front crash over all as Good, with head/neck/right leg and foot as Acceptable (one level below Good). I've personally seen the results of a side impact collision. 1st Responders praised the safety cage for preventing the driver from being injured.

  • @smartcarfor2 Ok depends which model you look at. Smart City gets a 3 star rating with weak/poor protection for driver's legs and passenger's chest. Admittedly the newer four two is improved in all areas and gets 4 stars.

  • @staggabob This is no Ford Pinto... science, technology and engineering speak loudly here. Size is but one factor, and Mercedes has taken years to get to this point. In fairness, this car can and does handle what is dished out. I am a husband and father and I don't willy nilly jump into a car purchase. Over the years, I've spent a lot of time learning what goes into what I am thinking of buying. The smart is much much more than what is seen from the outside. All preaching aside.

  • Weird, I replied to this earlier but it seems to have vanished! I have no idea what a Ford Pinto is, being European :) I do see a lot of Smarts though, especially in the 3 years I lived in Amsterdam. They're perfect for cities where parking space is minimal but if I was looking for a compact car I'd pick the Fiat 500 over a Smart: Better looking, more power, similar fuel economy, a manual option and can carry 4 for the same price as the Smart. Also Smarts get tipped in canals!

  • @staggabob Sadly the Fiat 500 has not hit the American shores yet. I would have gone for a Mini but who are they kidding with the prices. Our smart has been a great little car. Reliable and convenient. Is it a pick up? No, an SUV no... its a 2 seater that has racked 23,000 miles in just 17 months. What would I want instead? A diesel, hybrid or plug in Electric.

  • Check the survivor rate of any car at 75 into a fixed barrier. The smart is no worse. In a typical in town accident, the smart has a record of success and very low repair costs. Be fair in comparing. No its not an SUV, but I think if you wreck with a smart vs a motorcycle (wrecked my bike in '84 into a truck) you will find that the smart wins. BTW, I think that in most cases if you want to play in traffic, the smart can be just as fun as a bike. Just saying.

  • I don't know which is more dangerous, a smart car or a Prius?...

I guess a smart car, because if you get in a collision in a prius, you won't be missing any body parts (i.e. legs, face.)

  • Since you don't know, you might want to do some research, try reading up on both in the IIHS web site. I think you will find that they BOTH do well.

  • @smartcarfor2 Spare me and everyone else the advertisements.

  • @m22k3yt You offered your opinion, I just wanted you to know there are some facts out there. Call it an ad if you want. Maybe next time you should consider the whole picture before you toss your opinion out as gospel. What other cars have you elected to vent on or is the smart your target of choice?

  • Bottom line, there are far more practical, far more safer cars out there than this thing.Sorry to inform you that it's not you, it's the company who must convince the general public.BTW, love how you integrated the word 'smart' into your question.Goes to show, you can't be taken seriously.I mean what if you were pro-Honda Accord, would you be asking me "what transportation is your accord?" or a Nissan Titan "what Titan of a truck would you choose?"Again spare me all that, I see right through it.

  • Well it has a 5 star crash rating you gotta admit thats pretty good.

  • @m22k3yt Okay then, tell me ONE car within the price range (11-22k) that's safer, has better fuel economy, cheaper to run, cheaper to insure, and is of better quality and reliability...

Practicality is within the eyes of the beholder, you don't need a SUV if 95% of the time it's just you going to work...

  • looks like a baby shoe

  • Lol i frekin hate thoes things

  • Really?

  • @smartcarfor2 yea i couldnt tell u y though, there just so little and funny looking

  • ur totally wrong , its a dinosaur rollerskate

  • the smart car has the worst eurocap safety rating of any production car due to the fact that the only "crumple zone" is ur face lol

  • i hate the smart car... :P

  • it hates you too.

  • Heh, I see those cars everyday where I work.

  • Man I should buy a smart car. LOL

  • shock you are the official youtube smart car stalker

  • I like the smart car with a Hyabusa engine it it. Turbo with about 20 lbs of boost.

  • Me too. They also have done it with a GSXR ... equally impressive.

  • @smartcarfor2

You sure do seem to know your stuff about smart cars. I think they look interesting.

I have often thought of looking for an old geo metro.

years ago I had a BMW 1802 euro model that I put a Tii engine in.

That and a lot of suspension mods and the car was a blast.

    Now im older :)

  • @RedSmoky ... I won't say I am an expert but having owned a smart for about 18 months now, I learned a thing or two. Toying with cars is alway a fun hobby, no matter what kind it is. If the end result is pleasing to you, then that is all that matters. I'm no spring chicken myself. My child is grown and moved out. Now I have to find things to do to keep myself occupied on the weekends. For now, its my smart.

  • nooooo what happened to 777 videos?

  • were u going down hill??? cus i didnt think they could go that fast.

  • pred123424 hey man naw I was going up hill but its a light car tops out at around 90mph

  • Wow, i remmeber seeing this program on tv and they had tons of "smart cars" but, they arent like these cars, they had stupid cars which were like out of james bond!!!!!

  • @shockofgod 90mph electronically limited. One owner removed such limiter and hit 115mph stock...

  • @Neonspinnazz30 do you know how to remove the limiter? cause i wanna know^^" thanks

  • @otoakki Actually several owners have done this...Mostly the tuners though... To remove the limiter you need an ECU remapping. You can Google it to see if you can do it yourself or where to find a company/person who can.

  • @Neonspinnazz30 Thanks =)

  • If I had one, I would put some 30 inch rims on it. Chrome/

  • @CaptSaveAHo3 dude then the rims would already be bigger than the car itself

  • I don't like the smart car XD But dang, I didn't know they go that fast XD
