  • Hi, thanks for replying, I am glad to hear he is coping well. It sounds like its under control and he sounds very happy. Its nice to hear your experience and know its not the end of the world, which I was very worried about. I love Vizslas and I am so looking forward to getting one, your reply has made me more positive, so hopefully soon we will find a puppy. Good luck for the future Cat.

  • Hi, sad to read about Vinnie, how are things now? we are looking for a Vizsla but very scared by this horrible disease. Regards Cat.

  • @catncraig111 Hi! It was about time I gave an update on Vin's progress. At the moment he's doing great. The condition is under control with a quarter of a steroid tablet everyday - we did try stopping his meds altogether, but within a week he was starting to show some worrying signs again. It's a bit of trial and error at the moment with the dose, we tried him on a quarter of a tablet every other day, which we thought was working but again, it just wasn't enough. We know half a tablet works...

  • @catncraig111 ...every day, so now we've reduced it to a quarter every day and are keeping our fingers crossed. His weight is now up to 21 kgs and he's looking great and is full of life. Before Vin became ill we used him as a stud dog, the bitch became pregnant and we were in turmoil as whether to have the litter terminated, which the owner of the bitch was prepared to do. The referral vet who treated Vin advised against this, as there just isn't enough known about parent to offspring...

  • @catncraig111 ...transmission and so Vinnie became the proud father of 8 pups(10 in the litter, but 2 didn't make it). We kept a boy called Alfie and the owners of the mother kept 2 girls. The other 5 pups went to owners who were fully informed of what had happened to Vinnie and given info sheets on Polymyositis - knowledge about this condition is key, because it can be controlled if caught in the early stages before any serious muscle damage is done. Vinnie is living life to the full again and.

  • @catncraig111 ..being hassled by his boy at every opportunity, but he still lets him cuddle up to him on the sofa, Alfie practically crawls right on top of him. I know this is a scary condition, but please don't let it deter you from getting a Vizsla, they are easily the most perfect dogs on the planet and remember, this condition is extremely rare and research is growing all the time. I'll definately post a new vid of Vin and Alf. Hope all this helps?

    Danny

  • all your efforts will be payed off. ;)

Vizslas are more than simple dogs, trust me!

  • Lots of love hugs from us & our two red boys (Radar & Rio) too. Do keep us in touch with Vinnie's progress. x

  • @RadarRedDog Thanks so much for your kind comments. Today(16/03) has been a special day. Vinnie has now been on his treatment - 50mg of Prednidale and approx 38mg of Azathioprine daily, for just over two weeks now and although this dose is hitting him hard, it's also working. Vin had a blood test yesterday, the results came back today. His serum creatine kinase levels have dropped from 24,000 two weeks ago, to 215. It's such positive news, we're all so happy with his progress. Update soon

  • @s4dana4 That is absolutely fantastic...great news...extra hugs for you all. x
