Waiting for my 2008 HD Sportster Low with a little custom work already done now. Only had 2200 miles on it and is in perfect condition. Already has saddlebags, heated grips, detachable windshield and more. I fell in love the second I saw it at the Harley shop. You still enjoying yours? and have you done any more additions?
Cool. I'm not riding it as much as I want to but I am still enjying it. I haven't added anything to the bike since this video but I plan on adding easy brackets and saddle bags by next spring. I wouldn"t mind a detachable windshield either. Enjoy and let me know if you post a video of your bike.
I have a 2009 Harley Sportster XL1200 Low. Went with "Krome Werks" pipes and installed a "Terry Component" (instead of Power Commander). It runs smooth and I'm getting approx. 90 miles to a tank city driving. How far are you on a tank? Your bike looks great, have fun and ride safe.
Do you not have the 4.5 gallon tank because I'm getting a lot more miles to a tank than 90. I'm getting between 46 to 50 miles to the gallon at 4.5 gallons per tank that is over 200 miles to a tank. At 90 miles to a tank that would only be 20 miles to the gallon.
If it isn't a peanut tank then it is a 4.5 gallon tank. I'm sure your just filling it back up after burning three gallons of fuel. The 2008 XL 1200 Low only came with a 4.5 gallon tank.
@paisteboy It's not a peanut tank so it has to be a 4.5 gal. My low fuel warning turns on around 85 miles. I think I will let it burn off all the gas and see how it goes. Thanks for your input.
I wouldn't run it all the way out since there is no reserve on the fuel injected models. I usually fill up at around 150 miles. Next time you fill up reset your trip set and then the following time you fill up write down how much fuel it took to fill it back up. Then calculate your miles per gallon. For example at 40 MPG you should be able to get 180 miles per tank since the tank holds 4.5 gallons, but they get better gas milage than 40 MPG. Stock they get like 57 MPG.
@paisteboy All is good on the fuel capacity and miles per gallon. I did the calculations as you suggested (Great idea) and city riding amounted to 41 MPG.
Thanks again for the input, I rode bikes in my early twenties (Not Harleys) and back on the saddle in my 50's.
Awesome, I'm glad that helped out. 41 MPG City is pretty good. You probably would get about 48 to 50 MPG highway. That's aprroximately what I get. The fuel light comes on fairly early to make sure you don't run out since there is no reserve. Ride safe.
Sorry it sounds sucky to me. I'm a pretty serious rider and that noise would be intolerable going across town or across state lines the way I like to.
@paisteboy I like Sportsters but you're either a huge fool or a huge liar to say they're faster. Some guy on a Ninja or R6 or something could blow your socks off in 2nd gear.
You didn't undstand what we were talking about. I was referring to Sportsters being faster than other Harley's not every bike made. I'm niether a huge fool or a huge liar. Obvoiusly a crotch rocket would smoke my sportster but that's not the type of ride I'm looking for.
I got the tank bra because I scratched my original tank with my zipper. Luckily the Harley dealer noticed a flaw in the tank before I even got the bike home so they replaced it with a new tank when it came in. I didn't want to scratch up the new tank so I got the bra.
Hope you don't mind if I pick your brain about a couple things.
Does the Sundowner seat interfere with or contact the sideplates? Doesn't appear to .
As far as the comfort of the passenger, is the rear part of the seat comfortable enough? Also, if you had it to do over again, would you get a taller sissy bar? Lower? I have the Badlander seat & the passenger part is hard as a ROCK!
Great looking bike & thanks for any info you could give me.
what brand are your highway pegs? i'm looking at getting some for my iron and all i have been able to find are ones the clamp onto the the frames forward downtube. yours are in where you would put forward controls and that looks alot better
My highway pegs are Harley Davidson brand but I bought them used on ebay last year. They don't come with the pegs, just the mounts when you by them from Harley, but since they were used from ebay the seller included the pegs. From harley the mounts are approximately 200 buck new plus whatever pegs you get. Good luck.
are you shure you dont need a fuel pack, every were you see aftermarket pipes they say you need one. if you dont you could blue the pipes or have back fire issues. and it helps with the fuel to air ratio, Reason i ask is that i plan on doing what you did to your sporty.
I had it done at the dealer when I bought the bike. The bike never ran with the stock mufflers on it and I didn't pay for any fuel pack. Now just to clarifiy, these are just slip on mufflers not an entire exhaust. Good luck with your bike and thanks for watching.

@paisteboy It is a 3 gal. tank, I fill up with about 12 litres. Which suprises me because my owners manual states it is a 4.5 gal.

The sundowner seat does not interfere with with sideplates at all.
The passenger part of the seat is very comfortable for my wife. She likes it so much more than the stock seat.
And the sissy bar I would keep the same. My wife feels very safe with the ssisy bar at that height and has never mentioned wishing it was taller.
Thanks for watching.

Did you have to install an aftermarket fuel injection kit or anything like that? And what size baffles do those have in them?
theMowjones 2 years ago
No the fuel injection system is stock and works fine. The baffles are 2". You just swap the mufflers, that's it.

Thanks for the info. Very nice bike and sounds great!

isn,t that bike a 1200 custom ,, i have an xl and it doesn,t have all the chrome or the same kind of speedometer holder
torinotom71 2 years ago
It is a 2008 XL 1200 low and the chrome is all stock. I do have the spoked rims though. What year is yours?
paisteboy 2 years ago
Also the custom has a metal piece that runs down the center of the tank, straight bars and forward controls all stock.
