WRONG! Like the Star Wars nerd I am, I have to correct. You can't shoot a laser don't the secondary exhaust port which was the Death Star's weakness, because it is ray shielded. It has no particle shielding so anything solid, such as a proton torpedo, could enter it, hit the reactor core, and destroy the Death Star. The Death Star II fixed this problem, but wasn't complete during the Battle of Endor so there was a gaping giant hole there when the shields went down, allowing the rebels to fly in.
