Psu requirements says 550w, but my NX 5000 500w psu runs it no prob. Allthought i upgraded to Corsari Ax 750 and that can run GTX 590 without any problems :)
@skaterboy379 You dont get it. ASUS video cards have a "thingy" that works with the "thingy" that ASUS motherboards have to OVERCLOCK THE DAMN THING!!! Let me show you the big picture. I have a ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo board and i have two ASUS EAH4770. If i ONLY overclock the videocards i would have 830mhz core\ 850mhz memories. WITH my ASUS motherboard AND my ASUS video cards i have 900Mhz clock AND 1000mhz memories. It passes from 3.2gbs to 4.0gbs EACH. Wich makes 8.0Gbps instead of 6.4Gbps.Get it?
@skaterboy379 In that case you wont get the potencial of a full overclock. Imagine that you want the 5870 but you can only afford the 5850. If you already have a good ASUS motherboard, you cant set a ASUS EAH5850 to be BETTER than a regular or standard of any brand 5870... You can save your money to buy a new skate for example... lol. My two 4770's cost me 1\3 of a 4890 and they perform the same and they consume less power at lower temperatures...
@arvelos76 yea but say say for example i buy just a sapphire 5770 , could i then use it with any mobo if im not overclocking without any issues? thnx for the help.
@skaterboy379 Sure... you can do that with no problem. The 5770 is the best 128bit video card there is... But why Sapphire? Whats your motherboard? Gigabyte? ASUS? MSI?
@CrissRockss 5850, the 68xx series of cards were to replace the 57xx series of cards, therefore making the 5850 significantly better. But the 6870 is better than the 5850.
just got mine last week... and oced it at 850/1200 (5870 clocks) and its now close to 5870 performance benchmark wise... check out my crysis vids very good fps maxed out @ 1400x900 resolution.. still bang for the buck
@franzken I actually run a 5850 at those frequencies too. I got about 17000 with 3dmark vantage (1500 stock), the 5870 gets about 19000 stock. So I guess those 160 extra stream processors the 5870 has must do something special..
Only crap thing, and I just realised this, is that the 6pin power cables are at the side....it's a pretty big card, and it's on the side :x not sure if it will fit in my case now :(
@MrPrunecandy Well I actually have or....had a GTX 280, it died...second time I've RMAd this thing now, so I'm done, no more nvidia cards for me. Anyways, the GTX 280 is actually bigger than the 5850, so I should be fine now :)
The case is an average case I guess. Nothing special, no sort of make.
The 5850 is a powerhouse. It can even match against the GTX 470-80, Nvidia's most powerful GPUs. GTX 480 only has higher memory bandwidth and pixel fill but the HD 5850 has higher core/memory clock, shader/texture operations. And ATI is ahead with DX11 support.
The price is also reasonable, and it only uses 151 watts max. While the GTS250 alone is 150w max. HD 5870 and 5970 = insanity.
hello i'm a noob , i wanna ask if this card would work well in an motherboard with 780g and 700 sb,?? i also want to ask if this card would work well in a gigabyte 720w (610w True watts) in crossfire, i have read it would only consume 151 watts at max , i have a phenom 2 x4 955 BE , 6 120mm fans, 1 generic 2gb memory, h50 corsair water cooler and 2 cathode tubes????
From those too, you should definitely get the HD5830 if you get it for a good price. Those 5830's tend to be a bit over priced for the performance they are giving though. But against the 4870, it's the better choice. It runs a lot cooler and has better performance. Tell me the models (and their price) you've been looking at and I will know better.
Send me a PM, if you don't want any stupid replies from people. :P
@TheDaki75 pick the lowest clock speed but as much data rate as you can, then use amd overdrive afterwards and overclock it. it saves you the most money but gives you best peformance
@TheDaki75 yes, just buy the cheapest one with the highest data rate. Then you can just over-clock it to make it better than other versions of the card, oh don't forget to turn the fan speed up a small bit as well
Okay, i need some peoples opinion. I'm buying a new gaming rig and im wondering, either i buy a system with "only" a 5850 graphics card BUT with a mionix 5000 mouse and a steelseries mat OR i buy a system with a 5870 graphicscard but no mouse and no mat. this video card is the best one to get for the money. It can be overclocked to virtually the same level that the 5870, costs around 250$, and its as good as nvidia 470.

@itchyt1t I always buy xfx for its double life time warranty, so i can sell it without worry. Hey i sold my xfx 260 a few months ago at $300 and i bought last year at $210 and i am very satisfied. (I did not want the xfx 260 to be sold, so had it at a high price). His is good at cooling and extra accessories. Sapphire vapor-x is also good at cooling. The atomic version is the best. But it is hard to find in the market...
@itchyt1t XFX has a good warranty. The vapor-x model guarantees lower temps. They are all at the same specs, and around the same price. Just choose the one you feel confortable with.

@ademar9988 Benchmarks will prove this wrong. 4890 is more equal to a GTX 275 and I read correctly that a GTX470 is faster in benchmarks than the 5850.
@ademar9988@ademar9988 Benchmarks will prove this wrong. 4890 is more equal to a GTX 275 and I read correctly that a GTX470 is faster in benchmarks than the 5850.
@eythorion Yes, it would be enough wattage but it depends on the quality of your power supply. I suggest going to the AMD official website, they have a list of compatable power supplies for Crossfire use with this graphics card. Also, i suggest a PSU with a single +12V rail as it's better for multiple video cards.
@jtmarsh82 You really need an answer for that?....Well Ill be nice and play along and pretend you are stupid....When building a PC, the "PRO'S" like to be alittle to perfect. Especialy with there own rigs, Including system placement on a "Level" surface and leveling internal component's for mathmaticaly correct positioning or diy ajustments to a case. I hope this answers your question.
@CobraProductionsTV i ran a core 2 duo with 4g ram and 2x 9800gts with a thermaltake 500w with no issues. Bought a single 5850 and am now having power issues.... :D
your power supply must have ran like shit, or been a low budget one, cause i have a OCZ Fatal1ty and its only 550 W and im having no problems with this
The max overclock is wrong. My one gets up to 860mhz gpu, 1200 mhz memory on stock Voltage. If u increase it a bit u can get 1000mhz gpu on air. Mabe it should be mentioned that the HD 5850 runs at lower stock voltage than the HD 5870.
those benchmarks were almost identical of the gtx 275 (the card I own), so it looks like its not an upgrade (directx11 is cool, but its just starting). Maybe I'll wait if the 5870 costs less in a few months, i think that would be an upgrade then. maybe I'm wrong, benchmarks are confusing
I have had this card for about a month now and I am really happy with it but the price is really what makes this card awesome. I feel like they are letting us steal it! Just like the ti4200 made me feel back when Nvdia cards didn't catch on fire!
I'm only 13... And spending about £100-400 on a gaming rig, I'll put the card in but whats the cheapest price for intle I7, or should I just use i5 or i3? For crysis and other games.
@Avataryoutuification dont listen to that guy, go for intel i5 750 it performs similarly to the i7 920 and is very ocercloackable while being much cheaper. i dont know if this will fit your budget though, amd is an option if you cant afford intel.
Skip the i7 because there a bit overrated for gaming. If you can afford a i5 750 get one of those if not get an good AMD Phenom 2 x4. Never get an i5 6xx or an i3 for gaming. The have integrated video cards and instead of 4 the have 2 cores with is a big NO WAY for gaming.
on my system i have 3 120mm fans. a E8400 CPU at stock settings, one WD caviar green 1tb hdd and this exact card on a 550w psu and im fine. i used a Power supply estimation tool used by corsair (thanks for the tip rodney!) and it even said i could use a 450 (although not reccommended) 650 is plenty if its a quality PSU.
This card is definately one hell of a beast. The prize isn't actually so high when you keep in mind that this card beats GTX285 pretty easily in most benchmarks and games. It can be OC'd very, very easily with 3rd party tools while still running cooler than similar nvidia cards @ stock clocks. Not to mention the superb DX11 support...
I've been very happy with this card. It's definately worth the 300$.
I hope the price goes down soon b/c $310 is way too much for this card. This card only gets about 10 more FPS than my XFX 4870 1GB why so much money? I could just get a 5770 equal to my current card but DX11 & then OC it to get those 10 extra frames. Just don't see the point in wasting the money for such little performance increase.
i think my his 5850 is faulty, i get lots of driver response issues and blue screens

i have a i3 530 2.9ghz with 4 gig ddr3 ram and at moment have a gtx 260 graphs card,if i changed it to a hd 5850 would it run my games better ?
ballshavins 1 year ago
@ballshavins yes sure
hd 5850=gtx470
gtx 260= hd4890
ademar9988 1 year ago
@ademar9988 Benchmarks will prove this wrong. 4890 is more equal to a GTX 275 and I read correctly that a GTX470 is faster in benchmarks than the 5850.

Will a 500W PSU be enough to run this card and an AMD Phenom II X4 965? I don't plan to crossfire in the future.
KokoaShuzen 1 year ago
@KokoaShuzen Should be enough but this the absolute minimum.
nEroAmee686 1 year ago
@KokoaShuzen if you have a god psu like corsair cooler master etc...yes
for example i have the cooler master m520 run great
sorry for my english
ademar9988 1 year ago
@ademar9988 I'm using a Silverstone Strider 500W and no problems to report =)
KokoaShuzen 1 year ago
wow how long have u been doing these vlogs?
midnit19 1 year ago
would 650w be enough to run 2 of those
eythorion 1 year ago
@eythorion Yes, it would be enough wattage but it depends on the quality of your power supply. I suggest going to the AMD official website, they have a list of compatable power supplies for Crossfire use with this graphics card. Also, i suggest a PSU with a single +12V rail as it's better for multiple video cards.

why on earth would a "gamer kit" come with a level?
jtmarsh82 1 year ago
@jtmarsh82 You really need an answer for that?....Well Ill be nice and play along and pretend you are stupid....When building a PC, the "PRO'S" like to be alittle to perfect. Especialy with there own rigs, Including system placement on a "Level" surface and leveling internal component's for mathmaticaly correct positioning or diy ajustments to a case. I hope this answers your question.

A 500 W Corsair is more than enough!

Ok,i'm wondering or my PSU can run this card
my current PC spec's are
Core i5 750
4 GB ram at 1333 mhz
and i am currently running a 9800GT overclocked.
I'm planning to only run one
With a 500 Watt PSU.
CobraProductionsTV 1 year ago
you are fine as long as you only run one HDD
mikeye9 1 year ago
Yeasily with high quality like Antec, Corsair etc
SuperDolman 1 year ago
@CobraProductionsTV i ran a core 2 duo with 4g ram and 2x 9800gts with a thermaltake 500w with no issues. Bought a single 5850 and am now having power issues.... :D
jtmarsh82 1 year ago
your power supply must have ran like shit, or been a low budget one, cause i have a OCZ Fatal1ty and its only 550 W and im having no problems with this
Xelvielll 1 year ago
no man thats not going to be enough, 500w is minimum for the card! not including anything else, try for a 750watt.
Thefistof40k 1 year ago
uh dude, you must be a newb, no offense, but this card only consumes 150 or so watts, by itsself.
Xelvielll 1 year ago
500 wats is pleanty... Dont spend more money than you need to.

@bogellenong no, depends on the amps more
rampageturke 1 year ago
@bogellenong i got 550w, i think 500w is the minimum for this card
kamikazerus 1 year ago
yes, the recommended is 500watt but it depends if you have lots of expansions card soundcard, media controll etc.
krille757 1 year ago
i was recomended a 650watt - but i went with 850 as it was only an extra £10-£15.
(Type - Modular
Brand - Chieftec)
dannyrea246 1 year ago
depends on your other specs suchs as your cpu, ram and number of harddrives.
tHaH4x0r 1 year ago
eh I would get a 700 watt at least
MetalPower86 1 year ago
The max overclock is wrong. My one gets up to 860mhz gpu, 1200 mhz memory on stock Voltage. If u increase it a bit u can get 1000mhz gpu on air. Mabe it should be mentioned that the HD 5850 runs at lower stock voltage than the HD 5870.

beachzone2 1 year ago
those benchmarks were almost identical of the gtx 275 (the card I own), so it looks like its not an upgrade (directx11 is cool, but its just starting). Maybe I'll wait if the 5870 costs less in a few months, i think that would be an upgrade then. maybe I'm wrong, benchmarks are confusing
Aristowi 1 year ago
@Aristowi The 5850 should be faster than a GTX 285. Maybe you should look again.

I have had this card for about a month now and I am really happy with it but the price is really what makes this card awesome. I feel like they are letting us steal it! Just like the ti4200 made me feel back when Nvdia cards didn't catch on fire!
synapticelectricity 1 year ago
i play at resolution of 920x1080 is this a good card for those resolutions or is the 5870 worth paying 100buks more??
thanks

What about the XFX HD 5850 black edition ? Is it better than the Sapphire?
JokerArmy1 1 year ago
Black edition is always better than regular ones.

Well hard to say.. There is a Sapphire HD 5850 Toxic edition coming, It is oc'd too.

I'm only 13... And spending about £100-400 on a gaming rig, I'll put the card in but whats the cheapest price for intle I7, or should I just use i5 or i3? For crysis and other games.
Avataryoutuification 1 year ago
@Avataryoutuification AMD is better for gaming, i7, i5 and i3 is just better to render things like photoshop!!!
bennerkiller 1 year ago
go with a amd proccessor brrrooooooooo!
unforgiven2024 1 year ago
@Avataryoutuification dont listen to that guy, go for intel i5 750 it performs similarly to the i7 920 and is very ocercloackable while being much cheaper. i dont know if this will fit your budget though, amd is an option if you cant afford intel.
kajusz931 1 year ago
Skip the i7 because there a bit overrated for gaming. If you can afford a i5 750 get one of those if not get an good AMD Phenom 2 x4. Never get an i5 6xx or an i3 for gaming. The have integrated video cards and instead of 4 the have 2 cores with is a big NO WAY for gaming.
CallofDaniel 1 year ago
nothing wrong with 2 cores, and the i5 6x's and all i3's have hyper threading so its like 4 cores.
Mrbadboy333 1 year ago
To bad games don't support hyper treating. Buying an CPU with an GPU build in for gaming is stupid.
CallofDaniel 1 year ago
and you won't be getting too great of a rig for 100 - 400 pounds.... you won't get anything for 100..
Mrbadboy333 1 year ago
hey its a 650watts psu enough to keep this card nicely??
PcMrGaming 1 year ago
@PcMrGaming
on my system i have 3 120mm fans. a E8400 CPU at stock settings, one WD caviar green 1tb hdd and this exact card on a 550w psu and im fine. i used a Power supply estimation tool used by corsair (thanks for the tip rodney!) and it even said i could use a 450 (although not reccommended) 650 is plenty if its a quality PSU.

Shotgunhavoc 2 years ago
@Shotgunhavoc do you think a 650 w psu will do this card right?
royal11e 2 years ago
650W is definately enough for a Radeon card.

I bought the card, OC'd and is working great with 630 wat PSU, trust me, You will be very happy with this card :)

does anyone know when the price is going to be lowerd on this card? =)
DELTRON1337 2 years ago
I guess in about two months when the GF100 series from NVIDIA come out.
CallofDaniel 2 years ago
I hope the price goes down soon b/c $310 is way too much for this card. This card only gets about 10 more FPS than my XFX 4870 1GB why so much money? I could just get a 5770 equal to my current card but DX11 & then OC it to get those 10 extra frames. Just don't see the point in wasting the money for such little performance increase.
DragonAge1103 2 years ago
Runs about 80% cooler, and will have less fps drops.
