Glad the dog wasn't hurt. He/she knew some bad shit was going down, he/she appeared compassionate for the burning victims. One example of why a parachute isn't a good idea on small planes, survive the collision and suffer a horrific burning to death. Must've been a Cirrus, bad advertising for their aircraft.

@Tampaslice; It was, in fact, a Cirrus. In the vast majority of instances where a Cirrus pilot would opt to deploy the Ballistic Recovery System, there would likely not be an in-flight fire. The parachute would be used for things such as getting disoriented in IMC or weather beyond the Cirrus capabilities. IN-flight mechanical failures where landing in an off-airport location isn't feasible, pilot incapacitation. I also believe the crew jumped from this burning plane as might be seen early here.

That's awesome. So those parachutes are great. Instead of a quick, albeit horrifying yet painless death from going straight down, the plane is able to fall slowly to the ground, giving ample time for those trapped inside to be scream in agony as they are burned alive in their seats. brs parachute is good, but the problem with cirrus is that it is a composite plane (not aluminum), so a small collision can rupture the fuel tank and ignite a fire...a mid-air collision is a no-no. cirrus also has a greater stall speed than comparable aircraft because of its wing design (aspect ratio) and high-performance powerplant, among other things.

What your statement just said to everyone is that you no longer want passenger jets taking people to far off places in a fraction of the time it would take to drive. The pilot of the tow plane was a Marine Sargent who just returned home from Iraq in April. He was a good kid who had already earned his Bachelors Degree and who was building time to be a professional aviator. He was the best and the brightest. i witnessed a midair back in May of 09 in Alabama. After the impact I ran to see if there was anything that I could do. I wish I hadn't because there was nothing to be done. I think about it often. Fire and mid-air are what I fear the most about flying.
