  • excellent

  • Ashkenazy's interpretation is my favorite for this Concerto, specially the cadenza.

  • *picks a side about whether Rachmaninoff 3 is harder than this, then argues about it even though nobody cares*

  • @davidbaker03 Right on, it's damn tough.

  • @ShadowOfLegends this cadenza is harder then rach 3

  • I am absolutely in love with this concerto.

  • Ashkenazy did his new York debut with Bernstein in 1958 performing this piece very successfully. He is a wonderful pianist.

  • Ashkenazy plays this piece fabulously. My favourite recording of this amazing work.

  • Listening to Prokofiev is like watching a movie without images - but you don't even miss the images.

  • The way Ashkenazy brings out melodies never fails to inspire and bewilder me. Just gorgeous.

  • @dariusorf - Have you seen Yuja Wang's version - cannot be beaten IMHO

  • Cool to imagine Prokofiev could actually play this himself.

  • @Flutist11 The scary thing is I think Prokofiev found it quite easy for him self!

  • 4:08... Almost makes me cry...!

  • Rach 3? piece of cake compared to this!!!!

  • @cafity You don't know what you are talking about. Rach 3 is much more difficult than this cadenza.

  • @katchum Rach 3 is difficult but this piece is a daunting task that most Shit their pants at. People look at the Rach and go yeah thats hard lets learn this. But With this people lose control of Bowel functions in fear of this piece

  • @katchum I know many pianists who play Rach 3 and Prokofiev 2, and they all say that Prokofiev 2 is harder.

  • @OrangeSodaKing Then they are crazy and not real pianists. Because I can play Prokofiev 2 and I can't play Rach 3.

  • @katchum ... You don't think this guy is a real pianist? watch?v=l2_IlVXQp60

  • @OrangeSodaKing He's just messing with your head! It's like my piano teacher saying Mozart is the most difficult to play. The 1th mov of Prok2 is the easiest to play, the cadenza is not difficult, there aren't any difficult runs, it's playing scales. The 2nd mov is just playing the same in both hands. The 3rd mov is very easy. Only the fourth movement is a challenge because of the jumps.

But Rachmaninov has sooo many notes and the third movement is a hell to play because of the repeated notes.

  • @katchum Then let's see you play Rach 3 or Prok 2..?

Unless you've gotten better, I don't see how you can call Prok 2's Cadenza "not difficult" after hearing how you handled the ending of Prok's 7th Sonata. I thought you were a concert pianist by your attitude, but seems like you've still got quite a ways to go.

  • this cadenza it the hardest for piano playing!

  • De todos los pianistas de Youtube, me parece que Yundi y Vladimir son los que consiguen dar más ternura a esta angustiosa y difícil cadenza.

  • Fabulous playing and a deep understanding of the work.
