When you hear stuff like this you wonder why Prince releases crappy albums these days &as a recording artist today became utterly insignificant or irrelevant.Even with all the promotion in the world the shit he is releasing these days would never sell loads. His last great album was Sign of the Times & that was 25 years ago!Even die hard fans would agree his best albums were the early several. As live act he can still cut it, as a recording artist he is just a joke caricature of a once great one!
Ronald Reagan would have been 101 today. As we celebrate his legacy, we remember the hope and optimism he had for America. We could really use his leadership now!
Prince said "Ronnie talk to Russia before it's too late..." and our President did and the wall came down.
The myth that Reagan told Gorbachev to "tear down this wall" and Gorby shook in his boots and took it down is absurd - but one Republicans continue to perpetuate. The soviets getting bogged down in Afghanistan while their economy tanked was really the primary culprit.
They also talk about how he lowered taxes. But he really didn't. Facts are a difficult thing when you're trying to keep a fabricated story going.
Never noticed the lines before, "Ronnie, if ya dead a'fore I get ta meet 'cha..."
This came out in '81, right? And there's the newspaper clipping on the albums sleeve about the President signing a gun control act, which is clearly a reference to the Brady Bill...
Does anyone know, does that mean that Reagan was still critical in the hospital when this was written? I know that it's been revealed since that he was a lot more incapacitated by John Hickley's bullet in the lung than known at then..
@spike1138 Reagan had returned to the Oval Office on April 25, 1981 and it was back to business of Regan trying to end the Cold War. So no Reagan was not lying in a hospital when Prince released in Oct of 1981. The song most likely was written before Reagan was shot. Funny thing is I remember listening to the album around the time Reagan was shot well at least in the clubs in and around NYC back in those days.
@joezetank I love the Mary Had a Little Lamb sound but this song is about the Cold War in the time Ronald Reagan was the president--Russia was building atomic weapons so we were too it was a back and forth basically for world power -- so the song is telling "Ronnie" to talk or use diplomacy instead before they -or we- could cause a nuclear holocaust. It was just a very short political message put in between songs and was a perfect message becoz it was a Controversy :)
exactly....i feel that this was Prince's most political album....(although, any Prince fan knows that the purple one has always had a penchant for inserting political commentary into his music).
@ZebZachary ty! I know that there are many fans who just - thru no fault of their own-didn't/don't know that was a very current political statement for that time in history.esp the younger ones-I was old enough at the time of the "Cold War" and was aware of it's implications-so was able to understand the bouncy song! :D

@CaznRubyzDad ... No Myth... I was there... plus I lived in Berlin while the wall was in full swing. Keep fabricating your lies. Wake up!

Haha, thanks for uploading, I love this song, it's so silly
A rock tune set to the melody of Mary had a Little lamb with some of the most ridiculous lyrics on the planet, only Prince can get away with that
