@summersolsticeify I wasn't really speaking about ownership. I merely meant that Nujabes directly sampled Feliciano's recording, whereas Benson recorded his own version.
^^ i always wanted to hear the original song...This was sampled in 2 of Nujabes's songs...Counting Stars and Shino Theme...Nujabes is an awesome HipHop artist who participated in the soundtrack making for Samurai Champloo...Hit me up for any more info on Nujabes ^^
@Paulasse8 is opposite... the original is ***** five stars not less than this cover.. (an JF fingerstyle-classical-flamenco is also more hardly to play than with a good pick...)
Ruined? Not hardly, Jose wrote it, but George did a great job with it too. Besides, I love the keys on this version.... been playing it in one of my sets for the last 20 years
U know what ? it'sd the first music i have lear, fromt the very firsts time i decided to lear guitar too. i lear how to play it just by using my ears, althouh my friends at that time said to me i' was crasy to have the idea to play that melody first ! and now, after 14 years i play it very well, and i make it sound lige gb my man too !
Thanks for uploading. Yet another great take from the same show. The TV company should release the whole thing on a DVD... Benson and his band are at the top of their game here.
This looks the same personnel who actually played on the recording. Ronnie Foster, Harvey Mason, Jeorge Dalto.

Saw him do this at the universal ample theater in Hollywood CA. Had his son with him on sax and a full orchestra. It was fantastic!

This is so historic.
This is him playing at his best when he was the best.
That was then and not so hot on him now but that might be my fault, not his.
AUDREY, THANKS SO MUCH

just for the info ^^....Nujabes sampled off of George Benson....and George Benson sampled off of Jose Feliciano
redbigdaddy1 3 years ago
Not quite. George Benson *covered* Jose Feliciano's "Affirmation," whereas Nujabes *sampled* the Feliciano recording.
tonynevada 3 years ago 7
@tonynevada George Benson bought Feliciano's composition of "Affirmation" so technichally he owns it.

@summersolsticeify Nope, doesn't work that way. He licensed the right to record and perform the song. Feliciano owns the publishing rights.

This guy ruined this song, not saying he has no talent, but jose feliciano played this song the best.

George is one of those very few jazz players who do not compromise on melody just to exibit technical skills as most of them do.
