  • Haha, this is such a waste of time. I swear the Steiner education scarred me for life.

  • I have a friend who went to a Waldorf school. She has been very sheltered and the other day I had to explain to her what Disneyworld was. And yes, I know that not all parents of Waldorf students shelter their kids like that, but Waldorf encourages them to not expose their children to pop culture. Also, there are a lot of people who have been shunned by the entire faculty and all of the families just because they did something "wrong" or "different." Isn't that what they are supposed to encourag

  • SOUTH DEVON STEINER FOREVER <3

  • Waldorf school of Princeton, that's my school.

  • i went to a waldorf school and i HATED eurythmy. It seemed too hippyied out. We got into Tai Chi later which seemed to make more sense. But looking back on it I see how the concept of moving together and grace is a helpful skill to have. It seems more sub textual than literal

  • I went from a public school to Waldorf in 8th grade. I got kicked out of my first Eurythmy class for laughing to death and causing ''disturbance'' to the environment and degrading her by doing so.

I was told what it was all about.. Couldn't stop laughing tho', and I still do.

  • best eurithimist teenagers are brazilian. period.

  • WHERE'S MY GODDAMN WALDORF SALAD!?!?!!

  • Eurythmy forever! =)

you re the star on every party, when u just can dance you name =)

  • The song that they play at 1:10 is known by any name? It's so beautiful, I'd like to listen it completely.

  • I do eurythmy at my school, and I find it totaly pointless. not at all educational. sorry for those who like it, this is just my opinion, most of my school also agree whith me :)

  • When I watched this all I could think was, "Learn to read, through interpretive dance", heh heh.

  • @H3Vtux Sometimes it takes 2 to clap. You're obviously an intelligent, highly-opinionated young person who is struggling to direct your potential and energy in a meaningful way. You wanted to make a point (about typing/handwriting) so badly for the sake of making a point that it ended up that they reacted to your reaction, not your point.

  • @Olivatar i understand your reasoning but no, im not opinionated at all! i was arguing this in a TRANSENDENTALISM class! where you are supposed to argue things like that. i got so mad because not one of my classmates would even see my point, i told them "even if you disagree do you understand my argument?" and they said "no! because its stupid"

  • Why can't Waldorf schools use recorded music?

  • @Olivatar i went to one and we could actually. Although there is something great about live music i wouldn't complain about it

  • Muy bonito, me gusta el pensamiento y la obra de Rudolf Steiner

  • I also noticed the teacher talking about strength and beauty.

Does it have something to do with Wisdom, Strength and Beauty?

  • I feel that this should be the school of the future, that would really make this a better world. Not only a school for the intellect of the studen, so the student will become a scientist, but a complete teaching so he can become a "full" human being.

Very good, I wish I went to Waldorf schools.

  • @Panter4 the waldorf education system loves to parade its successfuly schools around but dont be fooled, i went to a waldorf school that was horrible and i have heard stories about other bad ones, i transfered into the high school after going to public school and the students discluded me and talked down to me because i didnt have their "supirior" education. College time came and 3 of the 14 people in my class dropped out of college, 2 more flunked out.

  • @H3Vtux Dropping and flunking out has nothing to do with underachieving - scholarly pursuits isn't for everyone, especially undergrad studies or if you don't go to a really ivy league or great school, you might feel undergrad is too easy and not worth your youth - you might think this is all there is to it.

I'm not pro-Waldorf just speaking in general. But I do feel sorry that you became bitter and still carry that burden around.

  • "girls respond to the beauty, and boys to the strength." What a bunch of sexist crap!

  • @yaanythinggoes Sexist crap?Please explain.

  • @abmsghost Just read what you say about how the different genders respond and you'll see how stereotypical it is. I happen to know a lot of young girls that love "strength" and a lot of young boys who respond to "beauty". Waldorf keeps trying to hark back to patriarchal views of the world (however subtle the messages may be) and it really is a disservice to both genders.

  • @yaanythinggoes I am very sorry but you are completely wrong. You have obviously not studied Eurythmy and Waldorf curriculum. You are hereby excused.

  • @abmsghost I know enough about Waldorf to know that I am right and you are in total denial, which is par for the course for an educational system that is obsessed with gnomes and fairies. No further discussion needed...it's useless.

  • @yaanythinggoes Your comment proves again that you Dont know Waldorf.Annyway..Gnomes and fairies are always better than violent video games and hip-hop music dont you think so.I feel terrbly sorry for ignorant idiots like you.But there is always hope..

  • @abmsghost It's not either-or. There is so much in between. Resorting to violent name calling language proves that you need much more enlightenment than I could ever provide, my friend. Feel sorry for yourself.

  • @yaanythinggoes If you cannot provide me with enlightment you should refrain from making biased comments on Waldorf and Eurythmy. Its like you are running away when its getting hot, int'it? As you say:"There is indeed a lot in between."

  • @yaanythinggoes I started reacting because your "enlightend" statement"Sexist crap!" was and is proof of YOUR violent and abusive language. people like you dont belong here..just go away...you are not wanted here..

  • @yaanythinggoes What do you know about Waldorf? Please enlighten us?

  • @yaanythinggoes Or better:What is it that you dont know about Waldorf?

  • I go to a waldorf skool and eurythmy is BS they should stop it wen kids get to 6th grd

  • ...the problem is also that children who really have a talent for "movement" should rather go to dance classes. So in summary we can say: The ones who don't like it will hate it more. The ones who like it will not get any professional level in dancing.

  • How does Eurythmy help a person in real life? I find that Waldorf Schools think that they have the best approach when they do not. There is no universal way of teaching anything and I find that Waldorf is inferior in some respects. Waldorf schools focus on the artistic nature of things, but what about the academic? I can learn how to work with others through sports and I certainly do not need Eurythmy. People are better served with academic and mental strengths rather than with Eurythmy.

  • @YBPhotoeditor06 ...I actually agree. Especially if you don't like it these classes really suck. I mean if somebody wants to do it fine. But to force everybody collectively is not a good way.

  • I volunteered at a Waldorf school for a while and it isn't as if they throw academics out the door. They have curriculum as well. The grade 5 class I was helping in was learning about greek history and I was shocked at how advanced all the students seem to be. It has been proven that students who experience the arts on a regular basis do better in school.

  • @YBPhotoeditor06 You obviously have not studied theWaldorf curriculum in depth.

Because if you did you would not make these comments ..Eurythmy and sports have nothing in common..objectives are completely different. What is disturbing in your comment is the ignorance and the spirit behind your words. But there is always hope..

  • This is brilliant, I just learned about eurythmy and I think it is an incredible way to connect students to academic subjects in a physical way

  • she used to be my teacher

  • eurythmy... how is that going to help you to get to college O_o

  • @ekspertti1 I will never say that eurythmy or waldorf education is the perfect way of everything, but I can definitely imagine that eurythmy CAN help you to get to college! I definitely like the fact that knowledge and education is not only experienced while sitting immovable at your desk. I think especially "difficult" childen with e.g. learning deficiencies or hyperactive children benefit from a physical approach!

  • Comment removed

  • @fungus2amungus Why?Please explain.

  • I'm from israel, and I have been learning at a Waldorf school for 5 years now, and I am extremely satisfied with it, but I must say... that I HATE Euruthmy!

  • @whitedogblues09 You might come to enjoy it later in life. It's an aquired taste.

  • Or, he might not. Can you accept that not all subjects at Waldorf are the perfect fit for all of their students?

  • @isurelike Yes, I can. But I believe that eurythmy is a subject that is not commonly understood until later looked back on. Most graduates I know say that eurythmy was a crucial subject looking back on all they did in it.

  • @colin70000 Can you tell me more about this : "eurythmy is a subject that is not commonly understood until later looked back on. Most graduates I know say that eurythmy was a crucial subject looking back on all they did in it."

  • @Olivatar Exactly my point! I find that most students in the school don't understand the subject until later when reflecting on it. In our school during the Waldorf Week of interviews it is then that the seniors begin to talk about Eurythmy that I feel they begin to appreciate it. Out of my observation though, very few students like me appreciate it as of now. I'm currently a junior.

  • @whitedogblues09 May I ask why? I think if I were a child older than 5 I would hate it too. Can I be a Waldorf teacher if I would've hated this as a child? As an adult I'm more open to because I am more free now.

  • @whitedogblues09 Hagay?

  • @whitedogblues09 lol yeah it isn't exactly everyone's favorite subject, especially when they make you do it through high school, which they didn't at my school... I mean, did you see the looks on those kids faces in that video? =P

  • Oh, i'm a Waldorf kid from Sweden :D

  • Jesus "the boys see and like the strength in euruthmy", and the girls see the beauty. Seems like a bit conservative, eh? but i like that they have more fun lessons though

  • yay mrs. freid. the lady talking about half way through is mah eurithmy teacher.

    yay kimberton waldorf school

    w00t

    sry i got over exited

  • Maria Ver Ecke ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm a Waldorf grad, and I'm an Ive League Law School student now. HOWEVER, most of my classmates are "failures." It's strange though-- they all seem to be happy despite it. There's my 2 cents on Waldorf.

  • "It's strange though-- they all seem to be happy despite it" So I guess they're not "failures" then?

  • Could be. I think success can be judged in two ways.

    1) How much positivity do you create in yourself?

    2) How much positivity do you create in other people?

They are awesome in 1. And horrible in 2.

  • dam, y didnt i go 2 that sch when i was a child

  • i go to this school!!!! she was mii eurythmy teacher last yearr lol

  • we go to waldorf and eurythmy is the worst class ever!!!!!!!!!!!=(

  • A class can only be as good as its teacher.

I know of a "Steiner School" here in Sydney Australia which runs itself as a Corporation---meaning it'll try to cut costs as much as possible. It'll get 'trainees' to take classes because they'll accept tiny (or no) wages just to 'get the experience'.

Trouble is, any school can call itself a Steiner or a Montessori school, so parents must demand proof, and MORE proof, that a school is following the ideals + practicalities of the original.

  • It was when I was in school too, but I promise you'll miss it.

  • I used to go to HVS waldorf school I HATED IT EVERY GOD DAMN YEAR I WANTED TO GO APESHIT

  • maybe you hated it because you wernt there from grade 1...people who join at grade 5 or later sometimes never really get the whole steiner thing

  • I was there from grade one, the reason I hated it was because it was a sad sorry excuse for a school.

  • well maybe the one you went to sucked. you cant genralise all steiner schools throughout the world just from ur expierience..the one im going to now is good altho i hate eurthmy

  • Great for you, my experience totally different.

  • lol okay ;)

  • Okay

  • okay

  • Glad we had this chat g2g

  • yeah see u around newhoff?...

  • A class/school can only be as good as its teachers.

  • Eurythmy is a nice thing to do! My limbs are not cold anymore. I remember 1986 in Germany.

  • I can appreciate this instructional exercise, but I would have appreciated hearing the students' perspective vs. the teacher's breathy certainty.

  • I go to Waldorf school and I really hate Eurythmy I think it's a waist of time and whenever I ask the teacher about the point of the exercises, she says that I have to discover the point of it,I gave it a couple of thoughts and all I see is a waist of time. On the other hand I've been doing eurythmy one year so maybe I'll just have to wait.I'm surprised that most of you miss eurythmy because I don't know a single person or any of my class mates that would find eurythmy fun or useful in any way.

  • Maybe because you're just used to it. I've never tried Eurythmy before, i tried it this year and i loved it. Maybe your teacher is boring.

  • @nineteensixty9 this is direct evidence that Eurythmy uses valuable time that should be used on spelling

  • @thenorup especially for this school.. half the children in my grade couldn't read/spell even close to grade level.

  • i go to a waldorf school in illinois

  • ha, i go here, and im in that, during the sword dance , im the guy in pink wiyh long hair,1:36 is my best friends mom and was my teacher

  • I was wondering- what would the teacher say if a boy wanted to dance with the girls and use the scarves, or a girl wanted to do the sword dance?

  • I've never encountered that situation, so I couldn't give an answer in the abstract. However, it is not at all unusual for boys to depict princesses or witches and girls to portray knights and kings in class recitations and class plays in the Waldorf school.

  • @eschwartz1ster hi there, as a preschool teacher, we are to not judge a child and simply let them be who they want to be because once you "tell" them what they should or should not do, they start to think what is acceptable in the eyes of others and as a result they don't express themselves as freely. these students are older so they are already aware of what others may think. i would get rid of the costumes and props and include both sexes and use hand gestures... as a preschool teacher.

  • @eschwartz1ster yeah, I mean, long ago at Waldorf schools it would have been the tradition to try and force them into their gender role. They even used to go as far as trying to make left-handed children write/draw with their right hand. But I didn't have either of these experiences, and I am a Waldorf lifer =)

  • @cass1337 She would say:" Fine."

  • @cass1337 hi there, in response to your question about eurythmy: as a preschool teacher, we are to not judge a child and simply let them be who they want to be because once you "tell" them what they should or should not do, they start to think what is acceptable in the eyes of others and as a result they don't express themselves as they freely. these students are older so they are already aware of what others may think. i would definitely get rid of the costumes and props and include both sexes

  • @cass1337 she would tell them to stop trying to be different and that homosexuality is a crime. Is that what you want to hear?

  • lmao, I didnt know they had waldorf on youtube, thats so funny. I graduated about two weeks ago from there, I miss it now, but mostly I miss my class):

  • You don't do this stuff in the work world. Have fun.

  • Comment removed

  • Go Waldorfians!!!!

  • You know, I really didn't care much for eurythmy when i was in school, but being in collage now, i really miss the breaks you had from studying when you just did eurythmy or crafts. I really miss my waldorf school.

  • hahahaha really? waw i dont know how u can miss it?! nah just kidding i would probably die of missing waldorf!!! :(

  • me too

  • hahaha oh god i go to kimberton and i really can't believe we are in this. i know all of those people.

  • Thank you dreamlesleep. Two suggestions:

    1) "dreamless" is spelled with 2 "S"s.

    2) "God" is generally capitalized.

I hope that you had a great experience as a Kimberton Waldorf student!

  • OMG ur so smart! hahahaha r u in da vid?

  • OMG! i didnt know dat they had waldorf on youtube ppl in waldorf arent alowed 2 use da computer unltill 6+ grade i think? im not sure or may b unltill high school. i study at waldorf also guess where... look ar my username n then u'll know. i took eurythmy also cuz i was lyk O.C. or O.P. at tyms n i miss behave but thats all change. wats good about waldorf is dat the students can ask 4 help from da techers wen there having a difficult tym w/ something and da teachers dont scould at them at all!

  • Thank you for your comments. I just want to tell other viewers that most Waldorf students DO spell words properly!!

  • wopz sorry hehehehehehe, but its not good to starin you'r eyes on da computer so long by putting long words instead of short cuts. but waldorf students do spell words correctly in there books or on there reports.

  • Your video was quite pleasing, gentle, unlike some of the ridiculous comments like some of the others. Smurfaka, was it really necessary to use that crude word? Come on! Oh yes, & aurumvore. WHO has been brainwashed?

I always find it amazing how people can form an authoritative comment about a subject they know nothing about.

Oh well, nice work kids. i enjoyed your video.

  • I'm not too sure about the swords being something fitting the waldorf path.

    Aum

  • @malicery Thats because swords have a very important symbolic meaning. And you are not aware of that. Some research might help you better understand. I prefer a Waldorf student with a sword in front of me better than a 6 year old fucked up kid with a fake machinegun pretending to kill me.

  • im still not 100% sure about the school, but i must admit that i first thought it might be some weird cult shit :p, but i dont really anymore at least.

  • i dont really get it, whats the school about?

  • For more information on Waldorf education in general, go to the video "Discover Waldorf Education."

  • I did a workshop Aug '07 at Shinning Star and the Eurythmy teach did a short class with us (unexpected!) and it was so amazing to me! I am excited to put my son in a Waldorf School!

  • Commenting on the Eurythmy, the woman who said the children will "choose the gestures they enjoy doing" is contradicting what's shown on the video. The majority of the students hesitantly imitate others' movements. And how old are those kids anyway? They look like high school students to me, but they're doing the things that I did while in pre-school.

  • The students - who are 8th graders - have already choreographed their movements -- what you see is the far more difficult task of actually carrying out their own choreography -- sort of like speaking lines in a play that you have written.

  • IM FROM WALDORF, PHILIPPINES! WOOH!

  • That's a ridiculous comment.

  • aurumvore : trust me, you better get informed.

  • Mrs. Gale, the first lady who speaks, was my eurythmy teacher at the Waldorf School of Princeton from first grade to fifth grade. Hello, Mrs. Gale!

  • Waldorf:D:D

I have always been on a Waldorf school!

    Oslo Bysteinerskole in Norway!!!!

  • If its not organic or covered in mulch, its not Waldorf.

  • I graduated this June:) <3 Waldorf

  • omg thts near my house, i went there for summer camp :)

  • I go there :)

  • omg these kids are more coordinated then i will ever be.

  • Waldorf 4 the win :) im also in class 11 :)

  • Der Doktor hat gesagt Eurythmie kann man nicht Filmen

  • THats my old Eurythmy teacher, Maria. I miss her soo much!! THis video was made after i left, if not, than im in this video...Anyways the blonde lady speakingg was my 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade teacher at GMWS. And i know the teacher who posted this ;P

  • Want smart education?

Then empower kids to learn how to be entrepreneurs early on in life. Schools should teach the subject, after all these kids are either going to work for a company (profit or non profit) or create their own path by owning businesses. Let's really teach them real life lessons. Why do we still have to follow the industrial age style of education while we are in digital, service- oriented age?

  • I love Waldorf MARTINSKOLAN IN SWEDEN ;D

  • I think the poster was my teacher...

  • Esotericists ^^

  • dude im in this video thats so rad

  • omg i go to waldorf school

  • so do I ... class 11 now ... :S

  • Great!
