what is she atlking about ? she is such a liar those chairs don't have a weight limit.... besides this woman is right if you want to charge extra put something outside about this .. Don't she know half of the population in the USA is overweight? This lady is going to loose some serious business
I'm a nail tech and those chairs will not break from an over weight person sitting in them. Maybe if they were like 400 lbs. I have many over weight clients. They should have refused service to start with or advised her up front that it would be more. When you enter some salons they try to tack on extras to make as much money as they can. Extra for more callus, extra for uv dry, extra for special massage. It's ridiculous. Stop going to these places and stop getting treated like a number.
Im fat and you know what its not discrimination. Its mechanical fact and a private business, they can do whatever they want to ensure they stay in business. The Asian shouldn't have let the fat lady sit on the chair but she still had the right to charge her an extra fee for mechanical costs in her own store.
i witness this one big lady going in a nail salon and she sat on that pedicure chair and within seconds she broke the pedicure's arm rest. Im like dang!!! her arm must have been heavy. That poor Arm rest couldn't handle her arm weight!! lol.
i witness this one big lady going in a nail salon and she sat on that pedicure chair and within seconds she broke the pedicure's arm rest. Im like dang!!! her arm must have been heavy. That poor Arm rest couldn't handle her arm weight!! lol
Man, they should of just said "We Charge you because your feet is heavy and you have a S#$@ Load of Callus" and come every 2 weeks and not haft a year for your pedicure.
The salon should increase their prices overall if they need supplements to pay for wear and tear on their products because otherwise it is discrimination to charge fat people for wear and tear when you have a variety of people sitting in those seats the wear and tear is from everyone not just the fat people. So to talk about is it fair, yes it's fair that a business owner pay to have quality equipment to provide quality service. Is it fair to have a small number of people paying additional mon
Don't complain about things you can control. Being fat is a choice. Airlines make fat people but two seats, to ensure comfort or other passengers and safety. What the F*** is the difference? She needs to drive past McDonald's not drive through it.
I own a nail salon and we bought five new pedicure chair, ($15.000). The manual says that the chair has a capacity to hold 350lbs. I do post a sign and refuse service for obese clients. I do have a digital scale and most importantly,. business is business. If you weigh over 350, then you have a serious health issue. I live in MS, The "Fattest State in the South!" Denial about being fat is not an excuse and is not discrimination.
How stupid can people get. The chairs are able to support up to 350 pounds. The woman is a gook from the filipines and they think they can make up little lies to cheat people out of money. This is because they think americans are stupid. Thats why they are gooks and I dont talk to, date or hang around thos sexless tastless, homely things.
if your fat then your fat. you cant be humiliated if you decided that you want to go on the news and talk about it. You have to pay for clothes that is a little more expensive so why not? If your fat then your fat, you put that on yourself.
she wasn't humiliated. If she were, she wouldn't have contacted an international news agency for an interview. The only people who knew about this was her and the employees. But now, the whole world knows about her weight problem.
sometimes i think they were right , you are fat it is your problem werther it your own fault or because of some genetic disease like thyroid gland disfunction , the girl pays for her stuff and if you are too fat you have to deal with it because it is true that overweight people can actualy brake thing faster this way , she should've warned her at first so i think they are both wrong and right .. i have no discrimination with fat persons but this situation is almos justified....
That lady was stupid, she should've notified on the price list or at least tell her about the addition on $5 before working on her, also... why let the women sit on the chair if it can't "hold it"? Seems like she can't think it through. I don't blame her for adding the $5, if you ever done pedicures before, overweight = more work and strength.
wow i cant believe anyone can get away with this , stupid black people will probley still go there ,i know its hard on salon chairs as well but there should be a better way of handling this.
I bet this salon is in a predominantly black neighborhood. I bet most of their customers are black, and I GUARANTEE BLACK FOLKS WON'T STOP COMING THERE. That's the difference between blacks and whites on issues like this. White Folk will rally behind another white and teach the salon a lesson by boycotting the salon.
.
Black Folk in the area will view this as "That's her problem, not mine" and continue to patronize the business.
This was just wrong. First of all, the chair did not break from her weight, so they're complaining about nothing. Second, if that was the salon's policy, then they should have told her as soon as she came in, or posted a notice. Had she known, she probably would not have gone in there. Third and most importantly, yes, the woman is fat, anyone can see that. But she still deserves to be treated like a person with dignity and respect.
why do fat women take care of there nails, hair, and eyebrows but not there weight???...they weight 200 pounds but god forbid there nails are not looking good....your priority's are off big girl
I don't see why fatty is complaining. She's been paying for one seat on the bus and taking space for two all her life. I got crushed by a fatty just the other day that squeezed her big ass next to me. Too 'effing lazy to stand for a little while. Having said that, if the salon has a fat tax, then they need to state so up front.
Discriminated because she's fat? hmmm..... Let's see. if health insurance charges you more because obesity leads to health issues and they charge you more for coverage, is it discrimination? An airline charges you two seats because you're big and you need two seats to get comfortable. is that discrimination? AMR charges extra if you weigh 300-1000 lbs for ambulance service. is that discrimination? If you are morbidly obese, and your BMI(Body Mass Indexi) is greater than 30 you are too fat!!
I live in Mississippi. Mississippi is the the fattest state. I work in a nail salon. We put up signs in our salon that we don't serve clients over 250 lbs, we don't use razor credo blades, and no children in the salon due to liability and insurance. I had seen all kind of obese clients. If you're fat and obese, then you need to find a way to lose that weight and quit being a couch potato. Even ambulance charges extra if you're 300-1000 lbs. How in the world did they get fat in he 1st place?
At the end of the day, it's their business, they can refuse to serve anyone they please. Instead of plopping your fat ass in front of a camera to complain to the AP, get on a treadmill, but a healthy eating cookbook & lay of the 7UP cake.
I agree with putting up a sign for weight limit because we did have 2 pedicure chairs broken due to obese folks. It was very embarrassing for us all when the chair snaps back. They could of refuse the service but all they want is that money. Those pedicure chairs are well over $3000.00 each. Plus its really difficult to find a local repair person. Because most repair men don't even know what a pedicure chair is. LOL
@phuong6936 Why are you mad at these ethereal Vietnamese people. For 1, this ain't ALL Vietnamese people. For 2, they have a point, if that fat bitch is wearing out their equipment, she needs to pay for it. It costs money to run a business. Yes, they should've let her know ahead of time. But at the end of the day, that fat broad is an attention whore who needs to drop a few pounds.
@AnansiDaSpyda I agree. I was mad because the owner she have informed her in the 1st place before she sat in the chair. Then again, you are right. Salon do have the right refuse service, and the customer should have done something about her weight, and take her business somewhere else.
@phuong6936 Don't get me wrong, ex post facto ain't cool. BUT, they're running a private business & it's their implicit right to refuse service. What's funny is that after hearing the vid as I'm typing, I hear the complainant talk about, "this is America" & "we don't discriminate here". It's almost like she doesn't understand the concept of private business ownership. Furthermore, it's almost like she's taking a shot at the techs for not being born here.
I really do not understand if this is a nail shop and doing feet is one of the services offered.
It's not OK for the owner to selectivly choose one individual over another to tac on an extra charge. Either do it across the board or not at all. And the ultimate disrespect was the owner attitude to the customer and about the situation afterwards...
That bitch needs to get on a boat and get back to china cuz these americans aint slimming down, so if she doesnt like the costumer influx, better move somplace else.
FUCKING FOB-- if that bitch didnt want an obese woman on her "expenisve chairs" then she should have told her--"listen, fat lady, im gonna have to charge you extra because you may damage the chair"--only then do i see a slight reasoning. But just the fact that she has a shitty attitude, she acts all indignant, as if its her dog-eating self thats being embarrassed and insulted.
yes the policy should have been posted, but i also see the business owners point too. obesity can be due to thyroid issues, but morbid obesity is just a lack of self restraint from the fork. three women in my family have thyroid issues, and they are all overweight, but not that bad, and all of them are lazy. cheap bitch probably didn't leave a tip either after having to work all over her body.....ughhhh...
That women is really obese and not everyone has thyroid problem. A lot of people are fat because of the lifestyle the choose to live. She should needs to loose weight. I don't think it was wrong to charger her extra but the policy should be posted.
They have to state what extra charges they are likely to add to be fair. What if they decided to charge $50 and the customer couldn't afford it? I know they didn't, but you can't just add on a charge without notice, it isn't fair. A customer needs to be made aware of the cost.
NO, beanmaster, if you were a little more educated on the subject of overweight individuals, you would know about hypo-thyroidism and how it can contribute to obesity and problems with weight.
A business-owner has the right to run it they way they want to. However, if you have a service-fee geared towards customers with particular "issues," it should be clearly stated/posted somewhere. Had this woman been aware of the policy, she would NOT have spent her money there, and the business-owner KNOWS THIS, hence the reason WHY this policy isn't posted in the salon. Luckily, this woman looked at her receipt and realized the dollar amount wasn't right, and questioned it.
that is fucked up. those chairs can actually hold over 200 lbs. and what the fuck is with every fucking hair and nail salon being runned by asians? i dont get it. also they should have told the woman that she would be charged extra.
@jelena2112 It is not yours or the nail salons place to make that decision or Ms. Fonville or anyone else... But what I, Ms. Fonville and Hopefully many other African Americans and Plus Size individuals WILL do is make sure this Natural Nail is Shut Down!
Because not only was the owner discriminatory, she was and many from that community who earn a living in the Black community are very DISREPECTFUL of the Community in which they serve. And we the Black Community need to run them out !
@CW043 It's not discrimination, and it has nothing to do with race. Overweight people cause more wear and tear to the furniture. The surcharge is similar to how heavy commercial trucks get charged a tax for the excessive wear and tear that they cause to our roads. Obesity is one cause of ingrown toenails, and it causes the skin to become more calloused, and that takes longer to treat. If you watch other videos about this story, it states the $5 surcharge was also because it took longer.
@CW043 Obesity is one of the causes of ingrown toenails. The excessive weight causes the skin on the feet to become more calloused. Both of these conditions take longer times to treat.
@ojymmas i'm a nail tech. I don't do ingrown toenail. but I refer the client to go see a foot doctor, podiatrists. They would know what to do. no, You shouldn't be charged more if you're not obese.
Salon is free to do what it pleases ONLY if it informs the customers first hand. My only issue with this is their passive-aggressive attempt at scoring $5 rather than telling her in the beginning.
Am I the only one that finds the mng to be hateful & rude in the manner that she speaks? She comes across as really hateful to me. I hope she loses all her customers b/c she just doesn`t seem nice.
@paisleyyama They're not hateful at all, they're very strict about their business. It's normal in China, Korea, etc, but in the west, we're not use to the abrasive nature. The longer the woman stays in the country the less abrasive she will be, but I'd guess she has only lived here within the last 10 years if not far less.
@DominusSantorini I know the Chinese tend to be abrasive in business as well as social life but that does not mean abrasiveness is not hateful. It may be the culture she`s used to but to be a successful business mgr in the US especially in the South, you just can`t be hateful & rude like this. Hopefully she will learn her lesson but if she doesn`t & her business suffers she`s at fault.
I've heard of certain salons charging extra for customers being too hairy too. Makes me never want to even try giving these places a chance and risking doing all my 'pampering' at home instead, just to avoid humiliation.
it's fuckin AMERICA most of us ar Fat one way or another. how you gon' get a chair that break under only 200 lbs.? and you really shouldn't charge people more JUSt because of their Body Mass, even if it is their fault.
@JDaKingman Overweight people cause more wear and tear to the furniture, so they should be charged more. It also takes a longer time to service overweight customers, and time is money.
@longhairfan I disagree in this case. She`s talking about wt discrimination not race & she`s right. She wasn`t informed that there would be an extra charge b/c of her wt. until AFTER the woman did her job. The woman just wanted an extra $5. I think the chair supports more than 200lb b/c the Asian wouldn`t have lost all that $ for $5 plus America is obese so it`s got to make sturdy chairs.
@Beanmaster73: Its not always a persons fault in their are over eating and grows to large and unhealthy. Too much drama happens in peoples lives and that's what causes people to over eat. IT AINT PLAIN AND SIMPLE UNLESS YOU KNOW THEIR SITUATION AS TO WHY THEY ARE LIKE THAT!!!! I give myself many reasons and believe me its a DAMN GOOD ONE.
@AlvaroAndfriends Actually, it IS there fault! If they allow stress to fill their lives and they take it out on themselves by over eating and not working out then you must blame them! There are plenty of stressed people out there and they aren't all over weight! Don't let these lazy fat asses put the blame on something else.
@AlvaroAndfriends wtf are you talking about??? should we embrace thieves and killers cause their life suck? should we take drugs when feeling down?? everyone is responsible for their own shit!!! there is no one to blame but themselves.. it's always easier to say he/she has no control over her life and it's not his/her fault? gtfo!!!
@xxxWarriorGoddessxxx The fat people are simply being asked to pay for the expenses that they cause. The $5 surcharge was also because it took longer. Obesity is a cause of ingrown toenails and causes the feet to become more calloused. It takes the salon worker a longer time to trim ingrown nails and shave off the excess dead skin. Excessive perspiration and obesity go hand-in-hand, and the salon worker's job becomes difficult when the worker has to deal with sweaty and smelly obese customers.
I agree. Being overweight comes with costs to health if it poses mechanical problems that's something you'll have to deal with. It should have been posted tho.
Personally, I agree. I mean, yeah it hurts your feelings but if I have an expensive chair and the added stress of your weight decreases the value of the chair (it has massagers and other things) then you should pay more IF the owner of the chair wants you to. Just like you should buy two tickets if you're on a plane and you're execessively overweight. It's not fair to other passengers who bought a ticket to be squished! If you d on't like it-then don't use their services.
I heard bout this on Monday while driving to school,it's clearly discrimination I say black people in that area should protest and not go to that damn saloon after a month and let's see if she charges $5 then
what is she atlking about ? she is such a liar those chairs don't have a weight limit.... besides this woman is right if you want to charge extra put something outside about this .. Don't she know half of the population in the USA is overweight? This lady is going to loose some serious business

#1 She didn't have a posted sign posted explaining the extra charges for overweight people.

#2 If the overweight lady didn't pay attention to her receipt, the manager would've never told her about the extra charge.
.
#3 If the manager really felt SHE was in the right, why did she refund the customer back the extra charge?

That women is really obese and not everyone has thyroid problem. A lot of people are fat because of the lifestyle the choose to live. She should needs to loose weight. I don't think it was wrong to charger her extra but the policy should be posted.

702NotH1ngN3sS 1 year ago
They have to state what extra charges they are likely to add to be fair. What if they decided to charge $50 and the customer couldn't afford it? I know they didn't, but you can't just add on a charge without notice, it isn't fair. A customer needs to be made aware of the cost.
ChannelMirror 1 year ago
@ChannelMirror i agree. the policy should be posted
honeysmoke13 1 year ago 2
They should post the extra charge policy. The fact that they didn't means they are in the wrong and the customer isn't obliged to pay it.
ChannelMirror 1 year ago
NO, beanmaster, if you were a little more educated on the subject of overweight individuals, you would know about hypo-thyroidism and how it can contribute to obesity and problems with weight.
chelpete007 1 year ago
A business-owner has the right to run it they way they want to. However, if you have a service-fee geared towards customers with particular "issues," it should be clearly stated/posted somewhere. Had this woman been aware of the policy, she would NOT have spent her money there, and the business-owner KNOWS THIS, hence the reason WHY this policy isn't posted in the salon. Luckily, this woman looked at her receipt and realized the dollar amount wasn't right, and questioned it.

that is fucked up. those chairs can actually hold over 200 lbs. and what the fuck is with every fucking hair and nail salon being runned by asians? i dont get it. also they should have told the woman that she would be charged extra.
ohlavrac119 1 year ago
There is no problem with the policy. However, the salon must inform the customer before hand. Otherwise it is false advertising.

CW043 1 year ago
@CW043 It's not discrimination, and it has nothing to do with race. Overweight people cause more wear and tear to the furniture. The surcharge is similar to how heavy commercial trucks get charged a tax for the excessive wear and tear that they cause to our roads. Obesity is one cause of ingrown toenails, and it causes the skin to become more calloused, and that takes longer to treat. If you watch other videos about this story, it states the $5 surcharge was also because it took longer.
TranCendenZ 1 year ago
@TranCendenZ How Does it Take LONGER.. Are you Serious.. and they Should want someone to come that who requires The Service they are offering...
The owners attitude was Disrespectful and they shoule be CLOSED by The Community!
CW043 1 year ago
@CW043 Obesity is one of the causes of ingrown toenails. The excessive weight causes the skin on the feet to become more calloused. Both of these conditions take longer times to treat.

ojymmas 1 year ago
@ojymmas i'm a nail tech. I don't do ingrown toenail. but I refer the client to go see a foot doctor, podiatrists. They would know what to do. no, You shouldn't be charged more if you're not obese.

Salon is free to do what it pleases ONLY if it informs the customers first hand. My only issue with this is their passive-aggressive attempt at scoring $5 rather than telling her in the beginning.

Am I the only one that finds the mng to be hateful & rude in the manner that she speaks? She comes across as really hateful to me. I hope she loses all her customers b/c she just doesn`t seem nice.
paisleyyama 1 year ago
@paisleyyama They're not hateful at all, they're very strict about their business. It's normal in China, Korea, etc, but in the west, we're not use to the abrasive nature. The longer the woman stays in the country the less abrasive she will be, but I'd guess she has only lived here within the last 10 years if not far less.
DominusSantorini 1 year ago
@DominusSantorini I know the Chinese tend to be abrasive in business as well as social life but that does not mean abrasiveness is not hateful. It may be the culture she`s used to but to be a successful business mgr in the US especially in the South, you just can`t be hateful & rude like this. Hopefully she will learn her lesson but if she doesn`t & her business suffers she`s at fault.

longhairfan 1 year ago
@longhairfan I disagree in this case. She`s talking about wt discrimination not race & she`s right. She wasn`t informed that there would be an extra charge b/c of her wt. until AFTER the woman did her job. The woman just wanted an extra $5. I think the chair supports more than 200lb b/c the Asian wouldn`t have lost all that $ for $5 plus America is obese so it`s got to make sturdy chairs.

if your're fat its your fault- plain and simple-
Beanmaster73 1 year ago 21
@Beanmaster73: Its not always a persons fault in their are over eating and grows to large and unhealthy. Too much drama happens in peoples lives and that's what causes people to over eat. IT AINT PLAIN AND SIMPLE UNLESS YOU KNOW THEIR SITUATION AS TO WHY THEY ARE LIKE THAT!!!! I give myself many reasons and believe me its a DAMN GOOD ONE.
AlvaroAndfriends 1 year ago
@AlvaroAndfriends Actually, it IS there fault! If they allow stress to fill their lives and they take it out on themselves by over eating and not working out then you must blame them! There are plenty of stressed people out there and they aren't all over weight! Don't let these lazy fat asses put the blame on something else.
fitedeltachi 1 year ago
@AlvaroAndfriends wtf are you talking about??? should we embrace thieves and killers cause their life suck? should we take drugs when feeling down?? everyone is responsible for their own shit!!! there is no one to blame but themselves.. it's always easier to say he/she has no control over her life and it's not his/her fault? gtfo!!!

Stop hatin on fat people!!!
In this fuckery economy, business will find a way to nickel and dime people.
xxxWarriorGoddessxxx 1 year ago
@xxxWarriorGoddessxxx The fat people are simply being asked to pay for the expenses that they cause. The $5 surcharge was also because it took longer. Obesity is a cause of ingrown toenails and causes the feet to become more calloused. It takes the salon worker a longer time to trim ingrown nails and shave off the excess dead skin. Excessive perspiration and obesity go hand-in-hand, and the salon worker's job becomes difficult when the worker has to deal with sweaty and smelly obese customers.
TranCendenZ 1 year ago 3
They must post the fee!!! All fat people must step on the scale at the front door. If you weigh over 200lbs. there will a $5 fee.

I agree. Being overweight comes with costs to health if it poses mechanical problems that's something you'll have to deal with. It should have been posted tho.
xaqary 1 year ago 4

@mzilla911 Black people? This wasn't a race discrimination. It was a weight discrimination. Shouldn't OVERWEIGHT people be the one to protest?
