It is a pity that this huge treasury of Victorian/Edwardian ballads has almost disappeared from modern memory but thanks to these videos, we can od on the most exquisite songs.

Amazing how well these old recordings sound - this one, after all, was made 100 years ago! It's fascinating to be able to go to another channel here at YouTube and compare this version with a later (1928) recording of this same song by John McCormack, still then calling to us, sweetly and clearly, across all those "years between".

The high mezza-voce at 2:04 and 3:16 is beautiful. McCormack's technique was magnificent.

What a lovely effortless voice. They do not any better than this one. Why do voice trainers take away the natural sound of voices today. Fab.
