You're right that they don't need to sound like the Smiths, but I don't like this version, it is awful - totally decontructing the Smiths as if they don't even like them. Go and see the Stewards version of the song, which i think captures the haunting nature of the riff and the craft of Marr. This sounds like a bad heavy metal version. Sorry, just don't like it, or the presentation, which looks like Eurotrashy disco
I like the idea; they could have gotten more out of it. Still, it probably sounded quite good if you were in the room when they were playing it.

I love the smiths.. HUGE smiths morrissey fan.

sounds like shit to me...however,
I must admit
that they have their own sound and its interesting.
Id rather hear this than a band just copy the song

it's obvious that they're not claiming to be the new smiths, they just wanted to pay tribute to them in their own "way".
