You have my sympathy...I have been on pred for the past 6 yr s and it totally sucks!! It changes your looks and other ignorant people think you have just gotten fat! I did wean myself off it 4 about 6 weeks but wham another flare put me straight back to square one!

Hi i'm taking predisone 30mg for two weeks, then on to 20mg for another 2 weeks then onto 10mg for a further two weeks. I started my treatement today. I'm really worried about the side effects. Can you give me some advice as to what I can do while on prednisone? like taking supplements and what diet to eat?

I have been on prednisone for 12 years, very short breaks between, I'm weaning off even though might be too soon, I can't take it anymore. It's not only bad on my face, but my moods, I miss being myself. I'm only on 6 mg at this point, most I been on was 20 Yikes, I got Rheumatoid arthritis, what a freaken trip. I have to be on prednisone for my pemphigus illness. I've been on it for the last 2 months. I'm currently on 40mgs and my doc just told me to stay on that for the next 2 weeks at least. It really sucks. I have the moonface and experiencing some hair loss(the worse side effect yet). Thank God no weight gain and I've been eating like a pig. I'm well enough to hit the gym and excersize. Can't wait to get off of it.

My tonsils have been swollen since December its now June. I have tonsillitis. And they gave me a prescription for Prednisone 10 MG. I have to take 6 a day for 2 days. Then 4 a day for 2 days, and 2 a day for 2 days. I started today and I took a quick nap and i thought i pissed in the bed, but it was sweat. My shirt was soaked especially around the neck area and my back. I could squeeze the sweat out my shirt and I have heavy eyes. Is this a common side effect from this medication? Thanks!

prednisone is fine... it has cured me... if you cant controll you hunger dont blame the drug, blame yourself for being weak... weak minded people cannot controll their hunger and keep eating when their sad.tired, or bored

I am on prednisone right now. The cravings our the worst. My face got a little wider but I didn't gain any weight. I have maintained my weight through diet and exercise. If I was not on prednisone and followed my diet and exercise then I would have probably lost 20 pounds by now haha. The medication really really sucks though and I am glad you're off it!

HI, I don't know why you were put on that drug..but you could go to a medical doctor who specializes in natural hormone replacement. There is Cortef, a natural cortisol vrs. pregnizone which is 20 times stronger and not natural to your body. I have gone to this kind of dr and am getting my life back.

I too had this happen to me but now as an extra bonus the prednisone gave me osteonecrosis which means my bones in my joints are dieing/dead. I need a knee and 2 hip replacements.

I was 12 when I got Wegener's and was put on a ton of prednisone and chemo and looked just like this and well... middle school girls are cruel to everyone so I was an easy target. I'm 22 now and things are a lot better. You are incredible for posting this! I wish your vid was around 10 yrs ago!

You are extremely brave to post this video - and clever. I've been on this evil bastard drug for 17 years with Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is the only treatment which works for me - or else I would live in bed. I have gained a huge amount of weight, which is difficult as I was a ballerina and a model. You are an inspiration, as people think that the physical effects of taking prednisone mean that you over-eat. It's really unfair. Stay cool!

Last month, I went ot my doctor for asthma medication. He prescribed me Advair and gave me some prednisone to take. There was absolutely NO WAY I was taking prednisone because I had already known all the side effects since one of my best friends has taken it for years. The Advair works GREAT so thankfully, it wasn't even necessary. I really hope things get better for you health wise and you'll never have to take this stuff again.:-)

I think you are very brave and I admire you for showing the REALITY of prednisone ! It is a nasty drug. SOmetimes I do not know what is worse the drug or the problem the drug is treating. I've been on this shit for 3 years now; up and down and back up again. Horrible what this does. Also my mind is insane a lot of the time. It also seems to fail to do what it's supposed to do for my illness. It totally sucks.

Pred has had the same effect on me, I gained 4st and I have jowls ! It's a nasty drug, but I currently need it. Don;t let it depress you (easier said that done) at least it keeping you alive, until a better solution can be found. Most of the side effects are reversable.

Hmm. I was on it - 10 days, 60mg/day. I actually lost 10lb because I didn't feel like eating and was VERY VERY stressed. Couldn't sleep, woke up in the night every two hours swatting like a pig and felt like a robot in the morning going to work. Gave me headake, fear, tinnitus, back pain, leg pain, panic attacks, stomac bloating. I couldn't eat and drank a lot of water. I recommend taking ranitidine every night before going to bed while on prednisone. It's a beast!

you should just lower you calorie intake and it will help..prednisone can be real tuff on ppl you suffer from being overweight ..if you didnt have a over eating problem it wouldnt be as bad but i no were your coming from i gained 10 pounds from this medication

Yeah Its not so hot taking these meds. I got wegeners desease so Im taking 60 mgs a day and Im only 25. I gained about 40 pounds. Cant wait to get taken off this crap. I know how you feel.

Its a pretty brutal drug. It was the first steroid discovered, but it still has some value as an immune depressent.

i was put on it , in early 2007, 60 mgs a day. got weened down to 5 mgs a day, 8 months later. if i knew then, what i know now, i would have taken the 1st day, of starting it off. people thought i had the flu...that 1st day about killed me. now it's late 2009, still suffering some of the sideffects, weak muscles, achy joints, and very week.

why were you on prednisone? i took it for 3 weeks at a time 4x a year when i was a kid for about 6-7 years. after that i didnt take it as much. i gained about 60lbs on the shit and have bad acne scars on my shoulders. ive lost 30lbs since january. im within a normal weight range now but i still feel fat. and i do have the abnormal fat distribution. hips down are skinny, and my chest is skinny and my face is skinny. my chin and stomach are fucked though.but i just need to work out more and im ok

I hope you are better now Connie. You are funny. Those negative comment people have NO clue. Predisone makes you feel like eating. It does that to your mind. When you are already dealing with an illness that makes you have to take it  in the first place it is very hard to deal with dieting too but even if you did it wouldnt matter. I was on prednisone for months and also on TPN-(no food at all-at all) my body was a stick and my face was so fat it felt like it would pop!!!!

Prednisone is one of two drugs used to bring Wegener's granulomatosis, which I have, into remission. It's no bed of roses for older people, either. Anyone put on this drug should insist on a full disclosure of the side effects from the prescribing doctor or get the information off the internet to use for questions to ask the doctor. My experience with it reflects Christina's!

I have been off and on prednisone for nearly 13 years due to my ulcerative colitis...I am 38 and was always very thin...UNTIL the predinsone..now I can't get the weight off and am about 30 pounds overweight. The prednisone has also taken the calcium from my bones and now I have Osteopenia. If there is any alternative to taking steroids I would highly recommend it!

I am so glad you are off it. I hope you never need to repeat that again. I am down to 30 mg and tapering to 20 mg in two days. Ugh! Even though it is a lifesaving drug for those of us with Crohns I wish they would never have intvented it and had found something else instead. Nine years with this disease and three rounds of the dreaded Prednisone and who knows the future?
