Fundamental Logic 101. A commitment to the truth (the only sane choice), inherently expands to include all possibilities. Arbitrary dismissal of a possibility, breaches that commitment as a fatal logic error, proving themself fundamentally a liar & a fraud. When Atheist/Satanists dismiss the possibility of God, they breach their commitment to the truth, resulting in the mindfucked insanity, to argue justifying a lie, is rational behavior.
Atlas Shrugged was a Utopian world of capitalism. Utopias don't exist, and never will.
Our current dilemma or modern world is not even comparable to the book. The book dealt with privately owned companies, but we live in a world of corporations. They operate vastly different. Furthermore, we live in a global economy, and Ayn Rand doesn't take into account the cheap labor over seas that is heavily exploited by our corporate capitalistic system.
Cheap labor? What is that? Is that like Santa Claus? Cheap is relative. If a job doesn't pay well enough for their liking, they should do something that pays them more. I bet you spend their yearly take on a Starbuck's latte'! Oh, by the way, corporations ARE private companies, their stocks are just traded publicly.
Santa Claus.... sigh... Cheap labor is due to a surplus. Get back to capitalism's F'n basics: Supply and Demand. Cheap labor is NOT relative. Their is a surplus of labor in China which drives the price of labor down.
It is not as simple as moving to a better paying job when labor is in surplus. If that were the case, we'd all have great paying jobs. If that's how you think it works then you're ignorant.
Because corporate stocks are public they must please share holders.
If they make a movie out of this it has to be a comedy... John Galt and friends should be slipping on banana peels at their mountain retreat free of the "looters" who pick up the trash, for instance...
They would have picked it up and disposed of it themselves because they were too smart, too proud to have to have someone pick it up. Since you didn't just get that with common sense, then I doubt you will understand any better after I explained it. They cared about their environment very much and would value a great deal the preservation of it. Not for the silly hippy global warming crap, but a real sense of value. They had a place that was the very spirit of true freedom.Your a fucking moron!
There are two novels that can change a fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.
yes, rand should have stuck to philosophy. she shouldn't have created idealized aryan superhumans. i think her greatest error was to use idealized nazi hero-types to represent her rational philosophy. having a few gays and lesbians, some jew and blacks, some decent foreigners, and a couple of disabled and mentally ill characters being heroic would have given her work some lasting value. as it is, it is an unfortunate tribute to eugenics. the rest is fabulous and i'm not kidding.
Actually, Rand knew a great deal about Myers-Briggs personality types. All of her "heroic" characters are based on very strong NT rationales, they are unchanging, and therefore fairly realistic. I've met people like this, and I am one of them.

Angelina Jolie is playting Dagney? So it will be rubbish then. Rand would enjoy the irony.
