It's funny how many people forget Kilborn was the original host! I still remember the old South Park VHS tapes with the promos. Old school Comedy Central rocked, but Stewart will always be the better host.

Different people, different tastes. You think that Craig's TDS is like The Onion and that Jon watered it down? I respectfully disagree. Jon was actually the one who brought writers from The Onion to the show (David Javerbaum and Ben Karlin).

IMO, Stewart is a very talented and smart comic. Kilborn has talent, but not in comedy.

Stewart a comedian that is always too serious? WTF does that mean? Some people don't have a taste for topical/politcal humor I guess and prefer frat boy jokes.

Craig kilborn DID have an ego, but had plenty of talent to back it. So good that he went on to the LLS and fulfilled his shows contract and had a grand finale episode. IMO Jon Stewart had always bumped from show to show trying to find out where he belonged. Longevity never was a strong point with him until CC gave him that break. He is a comedian who is always too serious.

interesting comments. the show was like the Onion, but nowadays a better comparison is the Colbert Report: a parody so good many people missed it was a parody. not because Kilborn was so talented: Stewart is a way better comedian.

Kilborn is a smug, narcissistic jagoff who gave the impression that he phoentically memorized the news items...exactly like an actual anchor.

and of course, Fox News wasn't slagging him all the time such that he felt the need to bring a discussion of balance into it.

I'm in the same boat. I'm in the minority that liked the Kilborn version better and I can't understand now why it is so forgotten. I vote mainly Democrat, but the continuous Bushbash was unimpressive to me since political humor, once it becomes too smug and self-satisfied ends up being very unfunny.

Actually he was doing such a good job that he moved on to LLS on CBS. He was doing such a good job that he got a network gig. Stewart always seems to be stuck on cable networks. He did well with MTV Sports though.

Another vote for Kilborn here. The show was 10X better with him as host. I can't watch Stewart's Daily Show, he's such a smug pompous jerk who is prone is screaming a lot to get his point across. All the best Daily Show correspondents (A. Whitney Brown, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Beth Littleford, Mo Rocca, Brian Unger, etc.) have moved on to bigger and better things since Stewart took over.

Jon's humor is pretty different from Killborn's. I honestly believe it's a lot funnier, as well as believable, and somewhat serious. Killborn didn't give you much of the actual news, just bits and pieces as they tried to throw in as many jokes as possible.

the daily show with craig kilborn took place at a different time than the daily show with jon stewart. craig's era was more subtle in delivering his comedy and jon was more straighforward. to me, both have brought something different.. but i started watching it when craig hosted... back in 1996.
