Well we all know the Jon Stewart edition its Go after the politicians for hypocrasy and go after the propagandists at Fox, MSNBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox business, CNN and HLN for not being journalists. I like to see the craig edition. I remember Hard Copy it was a tabloid show in the 1990's. Back then in the Craig Era MSNBC and Fox News were infants and they were accused for being tabloidal back then. When Stewart came in MSNBC and Fox became propaganda operations.
It's funny how many people forget Kilborn was the original host! I still remember the old South Park VHS tapes with the promos. Old school Comedy Central rocked, but Stewart will always be the better host.
Different people, different tastes. You think that Craig's TDS is like The Onion and that Jon watered it down? I respectfully disagree. Jon was actually the one who brought writers from The Onion to the show (David Javerbaum and Ben Karlin).
IMO, Stewart is a very talented and smart comic. Kilborn has talent, but not in comedy.
Stewart a comedian that is always too serious? WTF does that mean? Some people don't have a taste for topical/politcal humor I guess and prefer frat boy jokes.
Craig kilborn DID have an ego, but had plenty of talent to back it. So good that he went on to the LLS and fulfilled his shows contract and had a grand finale episode. IMO Jon Stewart had always bumped from show to show trying to find out where he belonged. Longevity never was a strong point with him until CC gave him that break. He is a comedian who is always too serious.
interesting comments. the show was like the Onion, but nowadays a better comparison is the Colbert Report: a parody so good many people missed it was a parody. not because Kilborn was so talented: Stewart is a way better comedian.
Kilborn is a smug, narcissistic jagoff who gave the impression that he phoentically memorized the news items...exactly like an actual anchor.
and of course, Fox News wasn't slagging him all the time such that he felt the need to bring a discussion of balance into it.
Watered down... really? I can understand not liking the show but to say that Stewart's show (which became a true anti-news show) is watered down is just silly.
Craig Killborn is a !@#$ing jock. He thinks he's better than people, as opposed to Jon Stewart, who knows he is, but doesn't say so, because he's not trying to be an *ass*
Ahhh.... How I miss the days when Comedy Central was actually funny and not so fucking PC. I guess I'm getting old because I also remember when MTV actually played music videos.(sigh)
I'm in the same boat. I'm in the minority that liked the Kilborn version better and I can't understand now why it is so forgotten. I vote mainly Democrat, but the continuous Bushbash was unimpressive to me since political humor, once it becomes too smug and self-satisfied ends up being very unfunny.
the difference back then was that you actually had to watch real news to get the jokes and now people are watching the daily news for.. the real news.
I think it's much better now though, I do agree with you about the change, but watching a 30 minute comedy show that informs you is much better then sitting through bullshit celebrity updates, and general fear mongering on Fox News/CNN/MSNBC lol Easier just to watch the Daily show.
@madmacabre hey at least they tell the truth unlike fox, msnbc, hln, cnn all of them are bias as shit! you goota watch every news station all day to know whats really happening
@musicskies When Kilborn had the Daily show Fox News and MSNBC were doing tabloid stories like what TruTV/ HLN and TMZ do today. At some point after 9/11 or the Iraq war 2 MSNBC and Fox News turned into propaganda channels of the USA.
Actually he was doing such a good job that he moved on to LLS on CBS. He was doing such a good job that he got a network gig. Stewart always seems to be stuck on cable networks. He did well with MTV Sports though.
They certainly had better writers then, but I like it better now. And calling Jon Stewart "smug" while praising Kilborn is the ultimate sarcasm, right?
I would love to see the Craig Kilborn Edition of the Daily Show. All I know is that the Craig Kilborn edition is way different fron the Jon Stewart edition. and the audiences are way different. Heck the most of the Current audience of the Daily Show would not understand the Kilborn edition.
Is Craig Kilborn still doing any TV series as of 2009? also the annoucer doing The daily show sounds like the Annoucer doing promos for the CBS Evening news in the 1990's
Another vote for Kilborn here. The show was 10X better with him as host. I can't watch Stewart's Daily Show, he's such a smug pompous jerk who is prone is screaming a lot to get his point across. All the best Daily Show correspondents (A. Whitney Brown, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Beth Littleford, Mo Rocca, Brian Unger, etc.) have moved on to bigger and better things since Stewart took over.
No. That's EXACTLY why I think Craig is better. You've proved the argument for Craig. It's a comedy show, not a provocative interview show. How can you take an interview so seriously when a comedian is asking the questions?
Is that last question supposed to be zen" How can you take an interview so seriously."
Because we understand the dichotomy created between the humor and the seriousness. The humor is disarming, but can remain insightful. The serious questions create a juxtaposition where we don't have to feel guilty for laughing, because we're actually *thinking* about issues at the same time. You ask how we wade these waters? We don't. It's deep enough that we can swim.
you people are insane. the daily show today is sooo ridiculously awesome that the stuff with kimble cant hold a candle to it. plus jon is just so damn lovable and smart.
@DrLove0378 That is true today now that Jon Stewart is going after CNN, MSNBC and Fox for being propagandist. "The most important television program Ever" Slogan may be corny in 1998 but its live up to the name today.
i love this characterization of the old version of the daily show: it's like the daily show for wasps, or jocks, or the demo that used to kick the asses of the demo who currently watch the daily show.
I honestly believe I'm the only person on this planet who misses the old Daily Show. I don't care what anyone says. The show was funnier with Kilborn as the host. A.Whitney Brown and Beth Littleford were great as well.
kilborn did a magazine interview where he called the shows creator an emotional bitch, lol! its probably true, that's why they hired an emasculated replacement like jon stewart.
Jon's humor is pretty different from Killborn's. I honestly believe it's a lot funnier, as well as believable, and somewhat serious. Killborn didn't give you much of the actual news, just bits and pieces as they tried to throw in as many jokes as possible.
the daily show with craig kilborn took place at a different time than the daily show with jon stewart. craig's era was more subtle in delivering his comedy and jon was more straighforward. to me, both have brought something different.. but i started watching it when craig hosted... back in 1996.
Yes, I have to agree. The Daily Show was so much better with Craig. It isn't funny anymore. Then he went on to do the late, late show which was horrible.
haha i remember crying when craig left the daily show, but i also really love the show with jon. except now.. it's not even funny anymore. the colbert report is way better.
stewart is so propped up by his writers anyone can see that from seeing his stand up. i just dont enjoy the show anymore since Kilborn left, he had his own quirky straight face irony without the overwhelming political jargin. It was pub humour with a smart twist . DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING FROM HIM ON THE DAILY SHOW!!
it was better back then...i've been watching since the beginning and it just keeps getting worse. The only funny people on the daily show with Jon Stewart were Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert, too bad they're gone
what year did jon steward start hosting?

Ever since he left the Late Late show the ratings have gone up since Craig Ferguson is (not hard to do and not surprising) much funnier than Kilborn.
