great video. Emotional, and the sound of the music is mixed like the sixties or seventies, squashed together yet you can hear each thing,
it has a triumphant, you can go on thing about it. the concentration of the players and the cuts to people doing things, children doing things. nice. i guess they are from iceland?
i've just came back from the cinema where i watched Heima.... I'm impressed and can't say anything more clever than that it's such a beautiful film...

Remember that the sun is never high in the sky there. In the summer, it sort of rotates around you, dipping a bit high in the south around midday and just dipping below the mountains in the north late at night. The net result us that sunrises/sunsets are very slow and gradual, and there's always a steep angle to the light, meaning stark color contrasts and long-cast shadows. It's part of why it's such a beautiful place, methinks.
@DByte56 oh my god indeed.... this is the best way to explain what real music is all about... oh well... maybe youll never watch this on mtv.... meh TV...
Shuure maybe per-capita but that's because only 10 ppl live there - not including the elves :) .. don't believe the hype though, we have no national debt crises 90+% of "our" debt has nothing to do with 99+% of our ppl, we got ripped off plain and simple and everyone just excepts it.. I commend the Icelanders for their stance.. Say hello to the elves for me
@itoldyousoisaid Well of course you want a per-capita measure. Few people means few people paying it off, too. :)
Ireland's public debt is nearly equal to its annual GDP. The US's is about 2/3rds of its GDP. Greece's is 40% more than its GDP. So you're certainly not Greece-level of debt, but it's definitely a real problem.
I hope you recover well. :) I was in Ireland at one point this summer, and found the people there very nice. A lot friendlier than the British ;)
@KarenRei Few ppl to pay it off i guess makes it harder alright, i think maybe the elves should pay there fair share too..
We are just about paying the interest but yeah there is lots good ppl here for sure but most are not active enough in affairs, just spectators. Cool, where did you go when you were here??
@itoldyousoisaid We came into the country from Northern Ireland. Stayed with a couple guys on the south side of Dublin (somewhere off the N81; great view of the hills), then drove to Galway and walked around the beach. We camped northeast of Tralee, drove through Killarney to the south shore, then back east; had my video camera die in Cork (although not without the best efforts of a repairman there to help out), then camped by the beach near Wexford before heading back to the UK. :)
@KarenRei sounds like you covered all corners of our humble island, hope you had a good time. Our beaches in Galway not so tropical but i guess your used to that. Camping too best way to go! Tell everyone in Iceland i forgive them now for their ash clouds :)
got to agree with most of the posts here, these Icelanders def have something. they told the banks to get lost too. I also want to go there now!! ..such beautiful music too
@itoldyousoisaid Actually, they bailed out their banks, with nearly a year's worth of GDP. Went into big debt to do it. But it's still an awesome country. :)
@KarenRei They may have put some money into it but they did NOT take on the vast majority of the debt (creditors of their banks debt) , in effect they just said no.... wish we had real ppl like that here in ireland but fat chance.. AGREED though on their awsomenessness!! Go Iceland!!!!!
@itoldyousoisaid They took on more debt per-capita in bailing out their banks than any other nation. There's no way they realistically *could* have fully bailed out their banks (despite the treatment of them as terrorists by the British and Dutch).
Your problem in Ireland is totally different. You have a *national debt crisis*. Iceland did not have one before. They do now, after the bailouts, mind you, but they largely dealt with it through a currency collapse (which you also can't do).
It makes me cry everytime i watch it.. I'd like to live in Iceland, maybe as a beggar, it doesn't matters, I think it's like living in another planet..
@PLCBZ Icelanders generally poll as one of the happiest peoples on Earth. Yet at the same time, it seems it's practically the national pastime to complain about their government ;) But, IMHO, it's a good thing; their domestic and foreign policy is largely awesome (say, compared to the US) because they're never content with the parts which aren't.
@KarenRei yes... that's what this video reflects, but to be fair, and that's my opinion, I think it's characteristic in the Nordic countries... The way of living seems more natural, balanced and more focus on the right things, which doesn't happen on many other countries on the rest of Europe - where people live very stressful days, mainly because there is an excess of everything!!! BTW - complaining about governments! -> Global hobbie ;)
Fuck I think I love that country and its people. Lots of original music comes from this geographically strange-looking island with only few hundred thousand inhabitants. And this video has some cute children and lot of sweaters and not-so-clean-hairs. Have to visit Iceland some day.
@iloveeCM Ásbyrgi. And it is. Although, IMHO, the river canyon just south of Ásbyrgi is even more incredible. This whole incredible canyon system by Iceland's northern shore was carved over the course of just a few days in two catastrophic flood events just a couple thousand years ago. Think about that for a minute.
From time to time you can find God in some places or some things in nature or what some people are doing. I think God was there when they did this recording...
@KarenRei Obvious irony, but regardless Icelandic is quite tricky. I've studied Nordic languages (it's mandatory in Swedish high schools) and Icelandic is far more difficult than any other Nordic language. Swedes, Danes and Norwegians understand each other quite fine, but we're useless at understanding people from Iceland and Finland.
@Enevroev Hehe, yeah, I kinda noticed that ;) I (a beginner at Icelandic) hiked over Fimmvörðuháls with a group of Norwegians, and discovered that we were both about equally useless at understanding Icelandic ;) Meh, but I have years to get good at it.
