I've learned that's a crow's warning or territorial caw. A crow makes it when it senses danger or if it feels invaded. I guess it doesn't feel like playing with the cat.
@ChrisCompany1029 here are the steps to befriending a crow: first, you must have a genuine 1800's black tophat and a fully grown moustache. Be sure not to get a cheap knock-off with the hat, the crows can smell the difference. Also, be sure to comb your moustache so that it has curly ends, this will ensure that the crows respect you. when you see some crows, tip your hat and say "i bid you good day sirs, it would be my pleasure to have you chaps over for some crumpets and tea!" :D
A whole family of crows hang out in my backyard. Sometimes hundreds of them will come to my house on windy days and surf the wind currents. If ever I befriend one I'm gonna name him Jack Daw. It's a play on words get it? ;3
I had my volume loud and thought the caw was the little noise at 0:21 ( i had scrolled down the read the comments) Then when it actually cawed I SHIT MY FUCKING PANTS!
@amart7 ~ No, the cats were raised with the birds and know that they are pets. Plus, the raven's cat kick their butt! I use a squirt bottle with water to teach the cats not to chase the birds.
@Gencturk92 ~ Not to my knowledge. But they do remember specific people who piss them off, and will mess with them when they see them. They might get testy if you got too close to their nest, as well.
In the U.S. we are not allowed to have the native crows and ravens unless supervised by licensed wildlife rehabilitators or veterinarians. You can volunteer with Wildlife rescue and get experience with ravens. You can legally obtain a hybrid African Raven (which Edgar is) from Corvid Ranch in Alabama.
@Tsumefan2 ~ It is not legal to have a corvid as a pet in the United States as they are migratory birds and protected. You can have one as a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, or are working under a licensed rehabber. I don't consider them pets; they are rescues :)
I personally hate the reputation they have. Tired of uneducated (about birds) people saying that mockingbirds are peaceful while jays are vicious. I know that mockingbirds are vicious. I've seen them attack.
(Only bird to ever attack me is a white breasted nuthatch xD I got too close, I was interested since it didn't fly away when I approached it, though, it body slammed me (of course after giving me that angry birdy stare.)
lmfao! Its funny how something I see in mass groups every day could be a house hold pet XD no joke there one outside my window in my tree right now lol
and they are also easily bored and frustrated. i had a pet crow once. they were soooo cute at times, but all other day they would pull at my shirt, shit on me and bite my hand. heh
@CaveofTwoLovers ~ That's why ya gotta give something to do. My crows and ravens have soooo many toys. I taught them to play catch. They're like little kids. They wanna play.
Have you ever had a crow say "caw" to you? Not caw like a bird but "caw" like a person would say. I had a crow come up to me at a picnic table once and say in very clear human voice "caaaaaw". I gave it some of my lunch and scooted it away. It was very strange.
@EngineerMK2004 ~ That's funny! Somebody has probably said "caw" to it enough times that it's mimicking them! I know my raven used to imitate wild ravens and said "awk".
I have a 3 year old son that one day he heard a bird caw, and He wanted to know what was that noise. So I explain and was very facinated and he him self does a very loud caw sound, very funny for a 3 year old so I had to show him on youtube what they look like cause For him to see up in the tree those birds were hiding, nice video!!
ha ha cool i have a cockateel named bud-bird we found him as a baby in a junck yard in a 12 pack of budwiser and he cant fly at all and his sister mistress has one foot because the other one was cut off
If you leave a note with your emergency care Vet Offices, that you would be willing to care for an injured crow, you might be contacted and be able to experience these wonderful creatures. If crows cannot be returned to the wild as they are (one of mine only has one wing), Wildlife Rehabilitators will euthanize it, or sometimes use it for education. I hope a crow finds you :)
