Good stuff. Seems as if right about this point they listened to PIL's "Metal Box" and Forbes, McGee, and Burchill all realized they could play like that ... and they made some great sounds for a couple of years.
They were such a brilliant band back in the day . "Reel to Real Cacophony" is my all time favorite LP by them. some of the most edgy, nervous and original post punk circa 79/80 " Empires" was also awesome. It all went wrong when the original bassist, synth player and drummer left the band circa 1982.
@abagail4me petty details but; bassist Derek Forbes went in 85, drummer Mel Gaynor's been more or less steady since 82, keyboardist Mike Macneil left for vacation in 1990 and never returned... ;-)
I missed their Stockholm concert 1979 (due to the damned military service:( and they didn't return until 1982. So better late than never to see this great 1979 clip.
What a chance for you! For me indeed the BIGGEST puts together pop rock which can exist still has the present time!!!!! I was 17 years old when they reunis. I do not miss them when they pass has Paris. I would like them jusqu' has my last breath!!! They are geniaux:
@craigtoun1 You lucky lucky lucky lucky pr!k!!!!!!! ;) I didn't get to see them until '89 in Melbourne. I wish I had seen them before like you. Treasure those memories.
this is great to see, the Steve Hillage produced Sons and Fascination and Sisters Feelings Call are the high points for me, though New Gold Dream has some great production it doesn't have the same impact. Here they really show up the lack of imagination out there on the "bands" circuit , the majority of whom are aping what happened 30 years ago.
Woo, that sounds great. I didn't know that Simple minds had had a period like this. It is really interesting, even now. Never took them too seriously, but this video proves the old theory, that the first years of any good band are the best.
the early simple minds was great because Jim doesn't have the greatest voices... which was alright in the early non-melodic sound of the SM. Once they started to write more melodic... it was painful by times...
Up until now I have felt bad enough about the Simple Minds events I have missed while old enough to see them, but these archives make me even more sorry I missed them when I was nine!!! Superb stuff....
