@katebe btw......the easiest way to test my "theory" is to put a dnb vinyl on a turntable....or in your case...load an mp3 into virtual dj and do so repeatedly, mix a set....something i'm sure you've never done. note your starting bpm from 0% pitch shift....when you're done.....note your finishing bpm....mixing nothing but dnb the whole time...whatever subgenre mixed with whatever doesn't matter as long as its dnb....that should show you how bpm specific the music is.

BUT..........DNB...170ish bpm......DUBSTEP 140ish bpm. and the BPM in both of these genres is the MAIN DEFINING CHARECTERISTIC ALONG WITH BEAT STRUCTURE. anything else you add to a dubstep beat 140 BPM would change the subgenre that it belongs too. same with DNB....and if you slow down a dnb beat...its not dnb anymore. it would change to breakbeat or something else. @jsouz978 That's... not the difference.. dummkopf. It's about how the instruments are used. DnB is 0-infinite BPM, dubstep is 0-infinite BPM.
Dubstep has a distinctive drum pattern, as DnB does. Dubstep has a faster LFO on the bass than the DnB wobble. Dubstep is usually remixing other songs, whereas DnB is usually looping a highly complex drum loop, some bass, and some samples.
If you don't know music theory, you shouldn't be listening to music. I'm sorry.

Furthermore....music theory has nothing to do with differentiating a dnb track from a dubstep track as it is not necessary to know. In fact, most people that produce music have little or no classical training. One more thing........there's plenty of dub and dnb out there that contains NO lfo or "wobble".

@jsouz978 lol! the only bpm-based style ive heard of is moombahton, and its 108 (it sucks, btw). everything else is relative, not related to bpm. speedup a dubstep track from your 140bpm to 180bpm - does it sound anything like a dnb track ? hmm ? about this certain track im just listening to - obviously it has nothing to do with dubstep (even if you slow it down to 140bpm ^_^)

@katebe ok dude. this is fuckin rediculous....i understand that "theoretically" music can be anything fro 0 to infinite bpm and that it can still "theoretically" be a dnb or dubstep track based on "musical styling". but honestly...fuck theory....if you want to consider the style and manner in which the instruments are used you can also say that the bpm or better yet...tempo at which the tracks are played, is a key component of the style or "genre" itself.....which in this case...it is.

I also know when people are making feeble attempts at trying to look smarter than they are, and I know when faggots are placating as well. I've been Dj'ing for 15 years.....drum and bass and dubstep are close relatives of each other with a lot of sub genres sharing the same characteristics.
